The Village of Shorewood is a community of just over 18,000 residents, and we continue to grow. Shorewood sits along the DuPage River, which is a source of recreation for many during the summer months. People enjoy kayaking, rafting and fishing on the river, as well as utilizing our numerous parks. Shorewood is a community that that still has that “small town” feel, and people find it a desirable place to call home.

Shorewood prides itself on the many exciting events and activities that take place throughout the year. Our annual Holiday Market brings in residents and visitors alike, and this takes place the first weekend in December. We have food, drinks, vendors, plenty of activities and special guests to

For over four and a half years as Mayor, and with your help, we have been making the Best Plainfield! By untapping the energy of all of our 50,000 residents, an unprecedented era of progress has dawned – a new Golden Age in our history. The door has been opened to a new generation of ‘doers’ who are stepping forward, respecting our traditions but also innovating and creating the new Plainfield.

During the last few years our industrial base has grown by leaps and bounds, helping to provide a diversified tax base that relieves the burden on the homeowner. For the first time, in fiscal year 2022/23 and continuing to the present, our sales tax revenue has outstripped our real estate tax base with so much more to come.

While there are so many new, expanding, and thriving small businesses, even more are in the pipeline. Plainfield abounds in food and beverage options both in the old downtown and out on our major highways offering craft food, locally roasted coffee, cocktails, craft beer, and live music every week.

We have also focused on promoting a vibrant cultural life in Plainfield. Catalyzed by a gift of land, we’ve launched the Plainfield Public Arts Council, which will design and promote public art in Plainfield.

Plainfield is a prosperous and bustling village, located 35 miles southwest of Chicago, with a population of 39,581 residents. Easily accessible, the village is close to several interstates and state highways, making it an excellent place to live, own a business, or simply spend the day shopping and dining in our historic downtown.

Downtown Plainfield, which is the heart of the community, is a vibrant, pedestrian-focused destination for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Each year, the downtown is home to a number of special events including Plainfield Fest, classic car nights, movies, and concerts. Plainfield is also home to the Lake Renwick Heron Rookery, numerous historic districts and landmarks, a wonderful park and trail system, and the DuPage River, which provides numerous outdoor recreational opportunities.

Weekday bus service between Plainfield and downtown Chicago is available courtesy of the Pace Suburban Bus Company. Consider Pace for your daily commute or a special trip into Downtown Chicago. Two Pace Bus Routes provide service to the Village of Plainfield:

Route 755 begins at the Plainfield Park-n-Ride at 14740 Depot Drive (just south of 143rd Street, off of Van Dyke Road) with stops at the Bolingbrook Old Chicago Park-n-Ride, the CTA Pink Line (Damen Station), Illinois Medical District, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), and ends at Union Station.

Route 855 begins at the Plainfield Park-n-Ride at 14740 Depot Drive (just south of 143rd Street, off of Van Dyke Road) with stops at the Burr Ridge Park-n-Ride, and ends in Chicago with stops in the Loop, River North, and Streeterville.

Pace Routes 755 and 855 can operate on sections of the shoulders of I-55. Free WiFi on buses allows passengers to use the internet for work or play while riding. For

KENDALL AREA TRANSIT

Kendall Area Transit (KAT) will implement transit service in the Kendall County area that is reliable, flexible, and financially sustainable, while satisfying the various mobility needs of the general public and individuals unable to access or operate a private automobiles.

Kendall Area Transit provides curb-to-curb and door-to-door services for Kendall County residents. This is a general public transportation service with a priority for the disabled and seniors. Bus services are available 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (except holidays).

PLAINFIELD TOWNSHIP SENIOR SHUTTLE SERVICE

Plainfield Township offers senior township residents bus service to run errands to local stores, hair appointments, activities, banks, and doctor appointments. Shuttle service hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHEATLAND TOWNSHIP RIDE DUPAGE PROGRAM

The Ride DuPage program, a service providing valuable paratransit options for seniors and people with disabilities, has expanded to Wheatland Township. Operating 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with both bus and taxi service, Ride DuPage specializes in reduced fares and door-to-door service for seniors and people with disabilities. The program is available for any type of trip whether it is personal, medical, or work-related which offers participants flexibility and dependability. All participants must be registered. PROGRESS CONTINUES IN HOUSING MARKET AND VILLAGE PROJECTS

Vacancies being filled and strong business interest continues to drive a healthy economic outlook for the Village of Plainfield, said Jake Melrose, Economic Development Director for the Village of Plainfield.

Melrose said his office continues to field inquiries from businesses interested in establishing locations in the bustling suburb.

“New businesses continue to bring new tax dollars,” Melrose said.

The Boulevard serves as a dining and entertainment destination and continues to add new businesses. This development is a collaboration between the Village of Plainfield and the City of Joliet.

Plainfield has seen strong housing developments. Melrose estimates that 2025 will close with the village issuing

more than 800 permits for new homes.

“People really want to live in this community,” Melrose added, explaining the village has added new single-family housing as well as townhomes.

With Plainfield’s strong housing growth it continues to draw business interest. New restaurants looking to open soon include Burrito Parilla at the former BMO Harris Bank building at Renwick and IL Route 59, a new Portillo’s drive-thru only location, a new 7 Brew Coffee location redeveloping the former Chili’s, and Zaxby’s, a southern-based fried chicken restaurant, is opening its first Illinois location in the former Slim Chicken’s location.

Work progresses on the new Woodman’s Grocery, which when complete in fall 2026, will be larger than the Costco. To improve traffic flow in preparation for the large grocery

store, Woodman’s is working with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Village of Plainfield on new traffic signals and road improvements at 119th Street and Route 59, Melrose said. The Boulevard is also seeing a new traffic signal installed at the main Costco intersection next summer.

The completion of the eastward expansion of 143rd Street is on target for 2026 and will relieve congestion along Route 126 in downtown Plainfield, Melrose said. With less congestion, the hope is to draw more visitors to the downtown area to enjoy the dining and shopping without large truck vehicle congestion.

The downtown’s business vacancy level remains low, and the aim is to continue to support the existing businesses to help them thrive and draw visitors from other nearby suburbs.

Shorewood continues to grow and serve as a destination for new housing and business opportunities.

At a time when many suburbs lack sufficient housing, Shorewood has become a prime location for new residential developments.

Construction is underway at Town Center II located off Wynstone and north of Jefferson Street. The development features 139 new single-family housing. With this development there will be a path for pedestrians and cyclists that connects to Towne Center I, Town Center Park as well as other nearby neighborhoods and the Village Hall.

“We’re super excited about this project,” said Natale Engel, Economic Development Director for the Village of Shorewood.

The Hamptons is another mixeduse development with 175 rental homes, 72 townhomes and mixed-use buildings with ground floor retail. The development includes a clubhouse, pool and recreation areas for its residents.

Construction is also underway on the new subdivision known as Auburn Chase, south of Seil Road

and west of Four Seasons Park. The design includes 277 homes as well as two large ponds, a walking path, playground and private dog park.

New housing opportunities is drawing new businesses to the community as well, Engle said.

“New businesses want to see the right mix to open and see the potential for future growth,” Engel said.

In the business park there has been activity with business expansions, businesses looking to locate operations to the area and a proposal for a new building as well.

In new dining opportunities, the community welcomed a new coffee and pastry café, Kafe de Casa and Barrio Burrito

Bar is expected to open with its concept of a build-yourown burrito, bowl and taco bar. Hungry diners are ready to explore the deli and food shop S & T Too in Shorewood, a part of the S & T Provisions which started in Chicago in 1960 and is known as the Original Pizza Setup.

There’s new fitness ventures with the opening of Reform Pilates and the new fitness studio Hotworx is slated to open in 2026 featuring infrared sauna workouts.

In 2025, Complete Closet Design opened its doors. Construction is underway on the new veterinary clinic on Jefferson, west of Wynstone. Revolution Dance Studio recently moved to a new space on Center Court.

Work continues for the new Village of Shorewood YMCA which is slated to open spring 2026 in time to host its first summer camp. The facility will boast more than 60,000 squarefeet and is located adjacent to the Shorewood Village Hall. The partnership with the YMCA and the Village of Shorewood will provide enhanced fitness and recreation opportunities for the community with its aquatics center, gymnasium, indoor walking track, exercise studios, a demonstration kitchen as well as gathering and meeting spaces.

As the community is preparing to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary and Shorewood’s 70th anniversary in 2027 it is launched a Notable Neighbor and Shorewood’s Circle of champions, inviting residents to share their stories of how they and their neighbors have made a positive impact in the community. A Notable Neighbor has rolemodel qualities as they live, work or volunteer in the community. Shorewood’s Circle of Champions honors those who have earned top awards and titles, in areas of academics, athletics and other top honors. DINE AND SIP AT PLAINFIELD RESTAURANT BARREL & VINE

Bringing together fresh food, extraordinary service and a cocktail menu that beckons one to sip and savor is helping Barrel & Vine thrive in its Plainfield location.

Building on the success of their restaurant in downtown Lemont, owners Dorothy and Larry Lantz saw downtown Plainfield as the perfect destination for a second location, and a nod to Larry’s roots growing up in Plainfield.

As the restaurant embarks on its second year, Larry and Dorothy are making plans to expand events, create more opportunities for people to discover the restaurant’s fresh foods and handcrafted cocktails.

“We definitely love what we do and we feel very blessed to do it,” Dorothy Lantz said.

Dorothy and Larry have been working in restaurants since the age of 15, starting out as hosts, working their way through the many hats in the business. Their experience has helped them to build a restaurant that elevates the dining experience, while keeping it family friendly. When it comes to hospitality, Dorothy Lantz wants customers to feel like they are sitting at her dining room table. Her team takes customer service to a higher level.

“Our staff is incredible and we are very thankful to our team,” Dorothy Lantz said.

In the kitchen, it’s about flavors. Even the children’s menu elevates the classics, going beyond the basics with options such as a kid charcuterie board, bucatini and meatballs or dipping buttermilk marinated chicken tenders.

“We have two littles ourselves and we definitely wanted to focus on staying family friendly and coming up with food they love,” Larry Lantz said, adding that their daughters have tried and shared their opinions on the children’s menu.

Dorothy Lantz said as a family they love to order a starter and their menu reflects a large selection of options, from brie and figs crostini to mango

avocado shrimp ceviche and the brussels sprouts platter will have guests asking why they were so afraid of the tiny green vegetables.

Entrees, from the steak frits to the chicken paprikash, pan seared duck or jambalaya, the hardest part will be deciding what to order. The chef and his team are very in-tune with dietary concerns and roughly 90 percent of the menu is available in gluten-free options, as

well as having dishes that are vegetarian and vegan, Dorothy Lantz said.

The duo have tasked the restaurants bartenders and mixologists with exploring new flavors and beverages in the restaurant’s cocktail menu, and they’ve created flavor pairings like honey and basil, or the blueberry infused vodka that pairs with ginger beer.

“We let them get creative,” Dorothy Lantz said. “It’s always evolving and our mixologist is always coming up with fun, creative ways to elevate classic cocktails.”

Wine options can range from California to Chile, and the restaurant’s wine club hosts events including wine pairing dinners. There are mocktails, old fashioneds and house made martini as well.

From menu favorites to seasonal flavors, the chef ensures fresh and quality ingredients is the highest priority. In the summer, guests enjoy the rooftop terrace, soaking up sunshine. The Plainfield restaurant has multiple private rooms for hosting special events, from dinner for 25 to seating up to 100.

“We’ve hosted baby showers, even small weddings,” Larry Lantz said.

Additionally, the restaurant hosts seasonal special events for holidays from Mother’s Day and Easter to the annual Santa Brunch.

“We had the Santa Brunch in our Lemont location and it did so well,” Dorothy Lantz said. “It’s a tradition for families and it’s one of my favorite events.”

CORRIGAN’S PUB ON 52

Family dinners or spending time with friends for drinks, Corrigan’s Pub in Shorewood is the place to enjoy good food and great meal.

“This is a family friendly environment, a place where you can take your kids, meet your friends, coworkers and have a drink and relax,” said co-owner George Gelis.

Opened in 2023, the restaurant encompasses 22,000 square feet of space, with a private dining room, banquet space that also serves as a live music venue and there’s even an arcade room for children.

Gelis opened the business with his brother Chris and his cousin Michael Vardikos.

The three have grown up in the restaurant business. They are second generation

restauranteurs. After earning his accounting degree from DePaul University, George Gelis joined his father and uncle with a hands-on experience of learning the restaurant business.

When the trio was ready to take on their own restaurant experience in 2023, they named their restaurant after Corrigan’s Pub, another family venture in Mt. Greenwood in the 1990s.

“It was a nice, local watering hole where families had dinner, a place to meet for lunch and dinner,” George Gelis said.

The trio has worked hard to build the restaurant, starting with a small menu that today, expands across burgers, sandwiches, pastas, soups, salads and entrees that give a nod to the Irish restaurant with a little Greek flavor in the Greek chicken dish.

The team behind Corrigan’s Pub in Shorewood may be first-generation Americans, but they carry with them the passion and dedication passed from their fathers who worked hard to build their businesses and become a part of the community.

“[Our fathers] are great role models who came and worked hard to get to where they are today,” George Gelis said. “Now, as I am a father, I hope I can pass to my children the wisdom.”

In addition to the dining space Corrigan’s Pub has a large banquet space that is ideal to host parties and special events. They’ve hosted bridal and baby showers, local fundraising events and even a wedding and its reception. The banquet space has room for 250 and for a more private event, there’s a dining room for 20. The restaurant have a full catering menu for in-house events and takeaway.

George Gelis said they want a place where everyone feels welcome and enjoys spending time with friends and family. From live music to trivia nights, the restaurant offers a place to sit back and have fun. Each week it offers customers the chance to join team trivia, Bingo or test their music knowledge with Singo. There’s no fee to join the week night trivia and games, and customers might just win a gift too.

When brothers Chris and Jay Jurica had the opportunity to follow a passion for jewelry, they decided to keep their business local and launched Chicago Lab Grown Diamonds in Shorewood.

After decades of working with their sister in her jewelry store in Highland Park, the brothers decided in 2024 to start their own business and reduce their commute, finding a perfect

location in the growing Shorewood community.

Their specialty is lab-grown diamonds. Rather than mined, these diamonds are grown in a lab environment. To the naked eye, it’s impossible to distinguish the difference between lab grown and a natural diamond, Jay Jurica said.

“This is exactly like a natural diamond,” Jay Jurica said. “It’s the exact same chemical makeup.”

Customers will know the difference when it comes to the price tag. On average, a 3-carat natural diamond’s cost can start around $40,000, while a 3-carat lab-grown diamond can be purchased for $4,000.

Jay Jurica said the interest is definitely increasing as customers discover lab grown diamonds and the store’s staff is happy to help customers navigate the differences as well. Customers are opting for lab-grown diamonds in their new pieces of jewelry, as well as re-designing older pieces of jewelry and using new, larger lab grown diamonds.

Jay Jurica said the Shorewood location was a perfect option, connecting them to their customers throughout the south and western suburbs and allowing them to flourish in their love for working with fine jewelry.

“This location was perfect,” Jay Jurica said. Along with working with designers, the brothers and their team at Chicago Lab Grown Diamonds love to help customers design their own creations, whether it’s an engagement ring, anniversary piece, birthday or other special occasion.

“We love to do custom pieces. Our

customers can show us pictures or we can do our own custom designs It’s really cool,” Jay Jurica said. “We enjoy it as much as the customer enjoys it. When they get it and it’s perfect, it’s the best part of the job.”

The shop can also handle jewelry cleaning and repairs. Additionally, they can buy and trade gold pieces at the shop. There’s classic tennis bracelets, necklaces and earrings always make a great gift, Jay Jurica said.

The brothers, now fathers, enjoy inviting their own children into the business and customers might even see another sibling, Carol, who also works in the shop specializing in permanent jewelry, which often refers to a bracelet that one can wear at all time as it’s soldered closed. Chris Jurica said permanent jewelry is a fun way to celebrate a friendship or motherdaughter relationship.

Growing up in a family with 10 siblings means family is everything and when it comes to celebrating family and love, the two brothers can’t think of a better way than with something that has a bit of sparkle, shine.

At Doc Motor Works in Plainfield, fixing cars is only part of the job. Owner Scott Wisneski built his shop on a simple promise: We fix your car as though your father is watching.

That philosophy runs through every service bay, from oil changes to brake repairs. It’s about integrity, care and treating every customer like family.

“Every person who calls our shop is dealing with some kind of pain,” Wisneski said. “Maybe their car won’t start, maybe they’ve got a flat tire. We’re here to take that stress away, not add to it.”

Step into Doc Motor Works and the family feeling is unmistakable. The waiting area

is lined with photos from Scott’s own life, including his prom picture with the woman who would become his wife. It’s a reminder that this is a local business built on personal connection.

Wisneski opened Doc Motor Works in Shorewood in 2014 and moved the shop to its new Plainfield location in the spring of 2025. His career began early. He remembers being age 12, lying in the snow to help fix the family car. Inspired by his mechanic uncle, he learned not just the trade, but the deeper value of helping people get back on the road safely.

That same heart for service drives his community work today. Through Single

Mom Saturday and Family Service Day, Scott and his team provide free vehicle maintenance and repairs to local families who need a hand. They partner with churches, schools and suppliers who often donate parts or services to support the cause.

“It’s humbling to see how one repair can lift a weight off someone’s shoulders,” Wisneski said. “It’s not just a car. It’s their way to get to work, to get their kids to school, to keep life moving.”

Customers often step up, too, donating toward local drives or volunteering alongside the Doc Motor Works team.

Beyond the shop, Wisneski mentors Plainfield’s next generation. He leads small groups through Heart Haven Outreach (H2O), a nonprofit supporting teens in crisis, and serves as a coach for the INCubator program at Plainfield East and Plainfield Central High Schools, helping students turn business ideas into reality.

Whether under the hood or out in the community, Doc Motor Works keeps its focus on people, fixing cars with honesty, kindness, and care that would make any father proud.

PLAINFIELD SCHOOLS

Since its infancy as a village, Plainfield has always been focused on providing a high level of education to the student population. Throughout the boom days of growth during the late-1990s and early-2000s, it was the award-winning Plainfield schools that attracted so many young families to the area.

Today, covering more than 64 square miles, Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 serves parts of Bolingbrook; Crest Hill; Joliet; Lockport; Naperville; Plainfield; Romeoville and unincorporated Will and Kendall counties.

The District served 24,411 students during the 2024-2025 school year. By enrollment, District 202 is the fifth-largest public school system in Illinois. While District 202 may cover a vast territory, the Village of Plainfield can tout one of the bright educational spots in the region.

STANDARDIZED TESTS

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is Illinois’ elementary and middle school standardized achievement exam. It is given to all 3rd-8th graders and measures student progress in meeting state learning expectations in English and Math. Plainfield students exceed the State percentages in both English and Math with district-wide scores of 61.5% and 43.6%, respectively. Plainfield also exceeds Illinois’ SAT college entrance exams scores with an average Composite Score of 983 compared to the State’s 950.

RACIAL MAKEUP

Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 has a diverse racial makeup of the student body with 45.1% White; 25.7% Hispanic; 14% Black/African American; 9.2% Asian; 4.8% Multi-Racial; and 0.2% American Indian/Alaska native.

The Plainfield Athletic Club was established in 1952 and today, has almost 1,000 players, ages 4-16, in both in-house and travel leagues. Softball and baseball leagues are available. Registration for in-house begins in November with the season beginning in April and ending by mid June. Youth are separated by age or grade level. A travel league is available for youth ages 8-15, tryouts are in July and August. PAC’s Board of Directors, league commissioners, and head and assistant coaches are all volunteers.
