tanding at the start line there is a sea of families, classmates, neighbors and friends all encouraging each other and ready to celebrate at the finish.
The Plainfield Harvest 5K/10K race is the community event. While many race for personal records or think of it as a warm-up to the season’s marathons, the true mission of the race is supporting those in need. “We donate proceeds back to the community,” explained Tasha Marsaglia, executive director of the Plainfield Shorewood Area Chamber of Commerce. The race is organized by the chamber and its members in cooperation with fellow community organizations and team of volunteers. To date, the race proceeds have totaled more than $350,000 in donations back to the community, she said. Last year the agency distributed donation checks to 20 different agencies including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Will & Grundy counties, the local food pantry, Friends of the Plainfield Public Library and the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency.
