Leafs face another tough test against Penguins
It’s shaping up to be a marquee Saturday night matchup in Steel City between two teams with solid starts. The Toronto Maple Leafs continue their budding rivalry against the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday, Nov. 29, at PPG Paints Arena, with the action airing live on Sportsnet and CBC.
Toronto enters the matchup with a respectable 8-5-1 record. Plus, their offence is once again firing on all cylinders, ranking among the top three league wide in goals per game at 3.71. The welcomed emergence of Matthew Knies remains a focal points for the Leafs. Just over 14 games into the season, Knies has already notched 18 points (5 goals, 13 assists), while working at a +6 rating early into his 2025-26 campaign — proving his consistency and reliability on the ice.
In the goaltending department, Anthony Stolarz’s numbers have room to improve this season. Showing some signs of struggle early on, Stolarz holds a 6-4-1 record on 3.11 goals against and a 8.95 save percentage. Toronto’s offence can mask things when it’s clicking, as proven in their Nov. 3 matchup against the Penguins with a 4-3 come-from-behind victory. But, going against a

consistent Pittsburgh squad, the Leafs will need much more than just goals and luck in their second meeting.
The Penguins enter the game boasting an 8-4-2 record and look like a team to beat in the Metropolitan Division. The Penguins offence ranks among the top of the league at 3.50 goals per game while allowing just under 2.71 goals against. If that wasn’t impressive enough, the Penguins powerplay ranks second league wide at 32.4 per cent, something they will look to exploit against a struggling Leafs special teams.
The Leafs will need to stand tall defensively and avoid unnecessary penalties if they look to come out on top against a disciplined Penguins team that looks to regain their elite form.

Give thanks to ‘Neighbors’: Bastianich celebrates American communities
Lidia Bastianich is a woman of many talents. In addition to a successful 27 years hosting cooking shows on PBS, the Italian-born chef is a real people person. For those who have followed her career over the past three decades, this proclamation of sociality is unlikely to come as a surprise, but for those who have jumped on the Bastianich bandwagon recently — or for those who happily stumbled across one of her specials on a cozy day in front of the television — yes, she really does care as much as it seems.
Since 2011, Bastianich has been showing her appreciation for the country she calls home in a series titled “Lidia Celebrates America” on PBS. Having covered everything from culturally significant holiday traditions and wedding ceremonies to the importance of giving back to first responders and front-line service workers, Bastianich has spent the bulk of her 60s and 70s giving back to the country that welcomed her family with open arms when she was just 11 years old.
The newest installment of “Lidia Celebrates America,” subtitled “A Nation of Neighbors,” premieres Tuesday, Nov. 25, on PBS, and continues Bastianich’s rich tradition of warming hearts from coast to coast.
“It’s the 14th year [of ‘Lidia Celebrates America’], and it’s my way of thanking America,” Bastianich said in an interview with TV Media ahead of the special’s release. “I find that sometimes it [the U.S.] is maligned ... so I said, ‘I’ve got to go out there and really show through food’ — because that’s how I communicate that — ‘that there’s so many good elements and good people and good experiences in
America.’”
And Bastianich certainly has a way of bringing out the best in people — often with a few joyful tears along the way — a talent that may harken back to her memories growing up in a small, tight-knit community before her family’s immigration to the United States.
“When I grew up as a kid in a small town in Italy, we knew every house in town, more or less,” recalled Bastianich of her childhood. “If you came home late from school or early from school [and] your mother wasn’t home, you knocked on your neighbor’s door [and] they fed you. ... The adults would get together, they have coffee together, sit under the mulberry tree in the summertime and talk.”
“I think that that gives you a sense of [positivity] and stability, you know, to have these connections,” Bastianich concluded, adding, “and here, maybe it is a little missing.”
This is one of the many reasons Bastianich dedicates so much of her life to traveling the country and bonding with members of the communities she visits. And what better way to do that than with a table full of delicious, soul-nurturing food?
In “A Nation of Neighbors,” Bastianich begins by visiting Altadena, California, a community hit hard by the wildfires that ravaged L.A. earlier this year. There, Firas Ayyad runs No Res Gourmet, a “501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to eradicating food insecurity with a holistic approach that blends nutrition, education and immersive experiences” (per No Res Gourmet’s official website). Like many sustainable, community-run organizations
across the United States, the team of dedicated staff and volunteers at No Res (short for No Reservations) serve as the backbone of their community, lifting others up when they most need support. Many of these volunteers, like Altadena local Cisco Licona, have also been affected by recent events and use that as their fuel to give back.
celebrity q&a
“There’s no reason that anyone should be hungry,” Bastianich said. “That’s what the state is supposed to do, to take care of its inhabitants, in whichever way. If we have a hurricane, take care of that part. If we have an epidemic, they’re supposed to be there. ... You can’t punish people that way for your political gains.”

Caterina Scorsone
Q: Is Caterina Scorsone gone from “Grey’s Anatomy” for good, or will she be coming back?
A: She’ll be back, but it will take a while. She and her character Dr. Amelia Shepherd are expected to reappear on the long-running ABC and Hulu medical drama in 2026 as the current Season 22 continues, after a temporary exit that likely came as a surprise to many fans of the show ... and to the actress herself.
In the plot, Shepherd decided to take a sabbatical after the hospital explosion that bridged the end of last season and the start of this one, since she was wracked with guilt over feeling responsible for the blast (which was caused by the mother of one of her patients). The crisis resulted in the death of Shepherd’s friend Dr. Monica Beltran (played by Natalie Morales), only intensifying the distress Shepherd felt.
While Scorsone’s eight-episode absence meets the creative needs of “Grey’s,” it also serves a business purpose. The regular cast members have deals to appear in 14 of the season’s 18 episodes, thus saving money from the four episodes in which they don’t work — and that situation has been doubled for Scorsone because of Shepherd being gone from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital for an extended period. It doesn’t help the performer’s bank account, but it does add up to savings for the show’s budget.
Then again, Scorsone does get to come back, which is not always the case for series regulars in the current economic climate. Morales can vouch for that, and so can some actors on shows produced by Dick Wolf (“Law & Order,” “Chicago Fire,” “FBI”), which have experienced their own cost-cutting measures in recent years.

“Missing: Dead or Alive?” - Season 2 (Nov. 24)
In this chilling true-crime series, investigations unfold through the eyes of the police working on each case — like going over the circumstances of someone’s disappearance, initiating search-andrescue operations, tracking down suspects, pings from a missing person’s phone and more. e series features o cer Vicki Rains, investigator JP Smith and Capt. Heidi Jackson as they work the ins and outs of each time-sensitive investigation and discuss how working on missing and kidnapping cases have impacted their lives.
David Boreanaz
Q: What’s David Boreanaz doing now that “SEAL Team” is over?
A: Maybe — just maybe — more “SEAL Team.”
Back in 2022, it was announced that the Paramount+ streaming service had ordered a “SEAL Team” movie — one that would tell its own contained story, rather than being just an extended episode of the show. David Boreanaz (“Bones”) was listed as both a star and producer, as he was in the show.
There hasn’t been a concrete update in the three years since. However, just after the series finale aired a year ago, Deadline.com, a generally dependable source of inside-Hollywood info, offered a ray of
“Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember” (Nov. 24)
In this intimate and uplifting documentary, Chris Hemsworth turns the spotlight away from himself and toward his father, Craig, who was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. Determined to help, Chris designs a therapeutic “road trip back in time,” revisiting key places from their past to explore the powerful science of social connection — a crucial but overlooked tool in protecting brain health. Along the way, Chris uncovers surprising research showing that connection isn’t just good for the soul; it can also reduce the risk of dementia, slow cognitive decline, and even prolong life.
OF SEAL TEAM ON CBS/PARAMOUNT+
hope, saying, “We hear it’s not dead.” That’s not much, but it’s something. And the show has proven remarkably hard to kill already; if a movie did get made, it wouldn’t be “SEAL Team’s” second life but rather its third.
It began as a broadcast show on CBS. It seemed to be on the chopping block in 2021, but instead just got moved to Paramount+, where it survived for three more successful seasons (and for a while, episodes were airing on both).
At the risk of spoiling the finale’s plot, I’ll say that “SEAL Team” ended in such a way that its story could continue, if that’s the direction they want to go with the movie.

Q: Now that he’s no longer James Bond, is Daniel Craig finally going to do that “Layer Cake” sequel?
A: Someone’s going to do the “Layer Cake” follow-up, but it won’t be Daniel Craig (“Knives Out,” 2019). And it may not actually be a “sequel,” per se. Before he debuted as James Bond in 2006’s “Casino Royale,” Daniel Craig played a different kind of stylish gunman in the 2004 crime thriller “Layer Cake.” Indeed, reports at the time said that it was his roguish performance in “Layer Cake” that got him the Bond gig.
“Layer Cake” was based on a book of the same name by author J.J. Connolly, who also wrote a sequel called “Viva La Madness.” A film version of that has been rumored since 2013, but with Jason Statham (“Crank,” 2006) in the role Craig vacated, a character mysteriously just named X in both the books and the film.
Just a few weeks ago, Variety magazine reported that production would finally kick off in January. However, Variety also specified that, even though it is an adaptation of “Viva La Madness,” it’s no longer being called a “Layer Cake” sequel: “The film is being billed as a stand-alone, original feature and not a sequel, spinoff or continuation of any previous adaptation of Connolly’s work.”
Perhaps that’s because they didn’t want to have to explain the actor switch.

With more than 55 million people living with dementia, according to Alzheimer’s Disease International, it’s no surprise that many are impacted by the disease in question — both those diagnosed and those supporting family and friends living with it. Determined to help, Chris designs a therapeutic ‘road trip back in time,’ revisiting key places from their past to explore the powerful science of social connection — a crucial but overlooked tool in protecting brain health. Along the way, Chris uncovers surprising research showing that connection isn’t just good for the soul; it can also reduce the risk of dementia, slow cognitive decline and even prolong life. This emotional journey across Australia becomes a chance for Chris and Craig to deepen their bond, relive memories, and discover how love, community and nostalgia can be potent medicine.”
While rekindling his relationship with his father, Hemsworth hopes to further explore the role that social connection plays in neuroplasticity — the brain’s ability
“My Dad and I had always spoken about taking a trip back to the Northern Territory, where our family had lived years ago, but we had never been able to set aside the time to actually do it,” Hemsworth said. “More recently, the idea of taking that road trip reemerged with more pressing importance. The result was a more profound, more moving and more surprising journey than I ever anticipated.”
With Darren Aronofsky (“Requiem for a Dream,” 2000), Benjamin Grayson (“Limitless”), Ari Handel (“Black Swan,” 2010), Brandon Hill (“Immigration Nation”), Arif Nurmohamed (“The World According to Jeff Goldblum”), Jane Root (“Secrets Declassified with David Duchovny”), Tom Watt-Smith (“Drowning in Plastic,” 2018) and Hemsworth acting as executive producers, “Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember” premieres on National Geographic Sunday, Nov. 23, streaming on Hulu and Disney+ the following day.
