Eagles look for balance as Green Bay’s defence aims to set the bar

The 2025 NFL regular season continues Monday night in Green Bay, Wis., for a primetime matchup featuring the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles as they head to Lambeau Field to take on a resurgent Green Bay Packers squad. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. ET, airing live on ABC, TSN and CTV2.

The Philadelphia Eagles (5-2) enter Monday’s matchup behind the steady leadership of Jalen Hurts. This season, the 26-year-old quarterback has thrown for 1,498 yards, 11 touchdowns and only one interception through seven games.

While the Eagles’ passing game has kept them afloat for much of this season, their running game has been average, at most. So far this season, superstar running back Saquon Barkley has carried the ball 113 times for 369 yards, with Philadelphia’s rushing attack averaging a modest 88.1 yards per game. The lack of offensive balance will make Barkley’s role crucial against a stingy Green Bay Packers defence.

On the other side, the Packers (5-3) bring a balanced game, having steadily improved on both sides on the ball. Led by Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs, offensively the Packers are averaging

26.3 points, 225.8 passing yards and 117.5 rushing yards per game. Defensively, the Packers have been nothing short of stingy, allowing just 76.5 rushing yards per game to put them among the league’s elite.

For the Eagles, they’ll want to establish a steady running game early if they hope to control the tempo and keep their defence rested. But if the Packers’ front seven can stuff the run and force Hurts into long third down situations, Barkley and the Eagles may find themselves on the back foot at a hostile Lambeau Field.

Join the club: A social climber fights for a foothold in new ‘Palm Royale’

The glittering pools, manicured gardens and perfectly shellacked updos of Palm Beach’s high society just barely obscure the secrets and lies that their exclusive clubs are built on. Back for its second season and premiering Wednesday, Nov. 12, the Apple TV period dramedy “Palm Royale” returns to sunny, sandy Florida on the cusp of the 1970s. Perennial outsider Maxine Dellacorte (Kristen Wiig, “MacGruber”) must once again prove she has just as much a right as the existing club members to be a part of the upper crust. The first of 10 new episodes will be available to stream on premiere day, with new episodes dropping each Wednesday.

Maxine pulled out all the stops last season to try to prove herself to the glamorous ladies of the Palm Royale, pushing herself to the brink. Her arrival from Tennessee was an interruption to the status quo of the Palm Royale and its members. Plus, as Maxine attempted to make headway on the rungs of the club’s social ladder, her meddling shook loose meticulously buried secrets.

In last season’s finale, the 50th Palm Royale Beach Ball turned into a disaster as Maxine aired everyone’s dirty laundry on stage — in front of the U.S. president, no less — and a single gunshot rang out, putting an end to the sombre festivities. Meant for Richard Nixon (Rich Skidmore, “McMillions”), the bullet instead hit Robert Diaz (Ricky Martin, “American Crime Story”), his fate being the cliffhanger of the season.

Brace yourself for a mild spoiler ahead: Martin’s bartender-cum-caregiver makes an appearance in the official trailer for the up-

coming season, where Robert is seen resting in a hospital bed and taking to the stage for a glitzy performance in a tuxedo. Given the series’ use of flashbacks that might not have much to do with his condition this season, so “Palm Royale” viewers can all rest easy knowing Robert makes a comeback, one way or another.

Also returning this season are Laura Dern (“Caught Stealing,” 2025) as Linda Shaw; Carol Burnett (“Better Call Saul”) as Norma Dellacorte; Allison Janney (“The Diplomat”) as Evelyn Rollins; Josh Lucas (“Yellowstone”) as Maxine’s womanizing husband, Douglas; Leslie Bibb (“The White Lotus”) as Dinah Donahue; Amber Chardae Robinson (“Loot”) as Virginia; Mindy Cohn (“The Facts of Life”) as Ann Holiday; Julia Duffy (“Night Court”) as Mary Jones Davidsoul; and Kaia Gerber (“Overcompensating”) as Mitzi.

New guest stars this season include John Stamos (“Big Shot”), Patti LuPone (“Agatha All Along”), Vicki Lawrence (“Mama’s Family”), Matt Rogers (“No Good Deed”) and Ryan Dorsey (“Big Sky”). Also reprising their roles this season are Claudia Ferri (“Queen of the South”) as Raquel Kimberly-Marco; Jason Canela (“The Young and the Restless”) as Eddie; Jordan Bridges (“The Old Man”) as Perry Donahue; James Urbaniak (“Oppenheimer,” 2023) as the manager of the Palm Royale; Roberto Sanchez (“BMF”) as Pinky; and Rick Cosnett (“Doctor Odyssey”) as Tom Sanka.

According to Apple, this season, Maxine will “have to draw on her deep well of cleverness and cunning to prove, once and for all, that not only does she belong but she might have what it takes to rule this town.”

PUZZLE SOLUTIONS

While everyone makes themselves over to become part of Palm Beach’s most exclusive scene, the queen bee is not willing to hand her crown down to just anyone. Norma overcame serious illness throughout the first season, only to threaten those who thought that she was on her way out

celebrity q&a

— namely Evelyn and Maxine — in the finale.

Join everyone’s favorite social climber as Maxine once again tries to come for the crown in a new season of “Palm Royale,” premiering Wednesday, Nov. 12, on Apple TV.

James

Dean OF REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE ON WARNER BROS.

Q: I found it interesting that in Turner Classic Movies’ recent tribute to James Dean, a television play in which he acted was included. How much TV work did he do?

A: Yes, that 1953 episode of NBC’s “Campbell Soundstage” — “Life Sentence” — was a real rarity to be shown these days, and many of the television performances Dean gave were in similar anthology series that had different casts and stories every week. A number of later screen stars got their starts that way, with Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, Rod Steiger and Eva Marie Saint as some other notable examples.

Among the many other shows of that style that featured Dean in the early 1950s were: ABC’s “Tales of Tomorrow”; CBS’s “CBS Television Workshop,” “Lux Video Theatre,” “Studio One,” “Omnibus,” “Danger,” “General Electric Theater,” “The United States Steel Hour” and “Schlitz Playhouse of Stars”; and NBC’s “Hallmark Hall of Fame,” “Kraft Television Theatre,” “Treasury Men in Action,” “The Big Story,” “Armstrong Circle Theatre,” “Robert Montgomery Presents” and “The Philco Television Playhouse.” You’ll note that in many cases, the sponsor of the given show had its name “baked” into the program’s title.

Dean kept doing such TV work right up to the time he became a big-screen icon. “East of Eden” (1955) was the first movie to give him a lead role, after he had done some relatively minor film work in such pictures as “Sailor Beware” (1952, opposite Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis) and “Trouble Along the Way” (1953, with John Wayne). Dean’s legendary role in “Rebel Without a Cause” came soon after “East of Eden,” also in 1955.

Following that was the Oscar-winning “Giant” (1956), for which the auto-racing-devoted Dean had finished his scenes before he died in a car accident at age 24 on Sept. 30, 1955.

“Rebel Without a Cause” was also released following Dean’s death. Had he lived, his next project was slated to be “Somebody Up There Likes Me” (1956), the biography of boxer Rocky Graziano that ultimately starred Paul Newman instead.

Beth Behrs

Q: I know Kat Dennings is in that new show with Tim Allen, but where is the other “Broke Girl” now?

A: That’s easy: she’s in “The Neighborhood.”

Beth Behrs (“American Pie Presents: The Book of Love,” 2009), who played one of the titular “2 Broke Girls” in the hit CBS sitcom until it was canceled in 2017, wasted no time jumping into another comedy series. She’s been part of the

four-hand ensemble cast of “The Neighborhood,” also on CBS, since 2018. That means that it now forms a bigger part of her career than “2 Broke Girls,” which ran for six seasons versus “The Neighborhood’s” eight and counting.

If you haven’t seen “The Neighborhood,” Behrs plays Gemma Johnson, whose life shifts from small-town quiet to big-city bustle when she gets a job as a school principal in Los Angeles. She and her husband (“New Girl’s” Max Green-

field) move next to Calvin (Cedric the Entertainer, “Barbershop,” 2002) and Tina (Tichina Arnold, “Martin”), a Black couple worried about how their new neighbors will fit in.

As you say, her fellow “Broke Girl,” Kat Dennings (“Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist,” 2008), also got back into the sitcom game earlier this year with “Shifting Gears,” which is now already into its second season.

Q: What’s Meghann Fahy doing now?

And is it more “Sirens”?

A: So far Netflix seems to be sticking to its description of “Sirens” as a “limited series,” so there’s no indication of more to come.

It’s not a spoiler to say that “Sirens” told a complete story in its five-episode season on Netflix last spring. And now the cast is moving on to other things, particularly Meghann Fahy (“The Bold Type”).

Fahy earned an Emmy nod for her role in “Sirens,” playing a woman concerned about her sister’s (Milly Alcock, “House of the Dragon”) new job working for a wealthy New England family.

She’s barely had time to rest on those laurels before leaping into multiple projects.

She already finished shooting “The Good Daughter,” a series in which she plays one of a pair of sisters (opposite Rose Byrne, “Neighbors,” 2014) recovering from a shared traumatic event. And she’s now shooting “You Deserve Each Other,” a feature-length rom-com in which she stars opposite Penn Badgley (recently of Netflix’s buzzy series “You”).

Once that wraps, she already has her next thing lined up: she’ll star in the supernatural thriller “Banquet,” about which little else is known.

Celebrating a career nearly 50 years in the making, “Being Eddie,” a retrospective on Oscar-nominated actor Eddie Murphy (“Coming to America,” 1988), premieres Wednesday, Nov. 12, on Netflix.

“It goes without saying that there is only one Eddie Murphy,” says documentary director Angus Wall (“Louder: The Soundtrack of Change,” 2024). “No other teen comedian shared a stage with Jerry Seinfeld at 17 and joined the cast of ‘Saturday Night Live’ right out of high school. No actor has ever played a cop, a doctor and a donkey — and dominated every facet of Hollywood he’s touched. Fewer still have been an A-list celebrity for over four decades and never succumbed to its darker side.”

From his humble beginnings as a teen comic, to his debut on “Saturday Night Live,” to a film and television career that produced hits such as “Beverly Hills Cop” (1984), “The Nutty Professor” (1996), “Shrek” (2001) and “Dreamgirls” (2006) — the last of which earned Murphy his aforementioned Oscar nomination — the documentary explores the “unusual combination of explosive charisma, focused ambition, raw talent and deep-set circumspection that put Murphy in a league of his own,” says Netflix.

After decades of starring in comedies, action films, dramas, animated movies, musicals and more, Murphy now invites the world at large to join him on a storied trip down memory lane as he delves further than ever before into the life that awarded him such a notable reputation. Along the

way, he’s joined by notable co-stars such as Arsenio Hall (“Coming to America,” 1988), Chris Rock (“Beverly Hills Cop II,” 1987), Jamie Foxx (“Dreamgirls,” 2006), Jerry Seinfeld (“Seinfeld”), Kenan Thompson (“Good Burger,” 1997), Kevin Hart (“Ride Along,” 2014), Tracee Ellis Ross (“Blackish”), Tracy Morgan (“30 Rock”) and more as he revisits his career, credit by credit.

“There is no one else like him. Nobody. He’s been famous longer than just about anyone alive, and he’s never lost who he is. He has survived it all with grace. How did he do that? What guides him? We chase all of these questions with him,” promises Wall.

From producers John Davis (“The Equalizer”), John Fox (“Game Night,” 2018), Charisse Hewitt-Webster (“The Nutty Professor,” 1996), Terry Leonard (“The Greatest Night in Pop,” 2024) and Kent Kubena (“We Are Storror,” 2025), “Being Eddie” premieres Wednesday, Nov. 12, on Netflix.
