NHL regular season opens with a star studded triple header

The wait is finally over. The NHL’s 202526 regular season begins Tuesday, Oct. 7, and the league is wasting no time getting down to business with a triple header showcasing three marquee matchups, starting with the two-time defending Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers opening the season at home, raising their Stanley Cup banner at Amerant Bank Arena as they go head-to-head against the Chicago Blackhawks. Then, it’s the Pittsburgh Penguins taking on the New York Rangers, followed by the Colorado Avalanche vs. the Los Angeles Kings. All games will be broadcast live on Sportsnet.

The Florida Panthers begin their season fresh off back-to-back finals victories. The focus this season will undeniably revolve around star forward Sam Bennett, who is coming off a stellar year in 2024-25, putting up 25 goals, 26 assists and 51 points before adding another 15 goals in the post-season to claim the Conn Smythe Trophy. With Bennett’s physical edge, Matthew Tkachuk’s playmaking abilities and Sergei Bobrovsky between the pipes, the Panthers are set to begin their quest for a rare

three-peat, with much of the team remaining intact from last season.

The schedule then shifts to New York, where the Pittsburgh Penguins get set to take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers are led by Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad, who finished last season with 151 points combined, while the Penguins aim to return to the post-season with a seasoned core led by Sidney Crosby, who led the team last season with 91 points.

The triple header concludes with a Western Conference clash in California featuring the Colorado Avalanche taking on the Los Angeles Kings at the Crypto.com Arena. The Avalanche boast one of the NHL’s highest-scoring teams, with Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar combining for 62 goals last season. Makar led all the league’s defensemen in goals with 30.

Music City heats up in ‘9-1-1: Nashville’ premiere

Three chords and the truth can’t heal every wound. A new spinoff series follows Music City’s emergencies from dispatch to the scene, as “9-1-1: Nashville” premieres Thursday, Oct. 9, on ABC. The procedural sees Tennessee first responders attend to urgent crises that could only happen in a place like Nashville.

Per ABC, “9-1-1: Nashville” is “a high-octane procedural about heroic first responders, as well as their family saga of power and glamour set in one of America’s most diverse and dynamic cities.” It seems that the fire house is the center of the glamour and family drama in the upcoming series. Full of multi-talented firefighters and a common last name, there is sure to be lively action between some big personalities in their down time.

The upcoming series cast some real Nashville stars, with Grammy-winning country artist LeAnn Rimes (“It’s Christmas, Eve,” 2018) in a main role. Rimes is Dixie Bennings, a mother of one of the series’ firefighters. Kimberly Williams-Paisley (“Nashville”) stars as Cammie Raleigh, the dispatch call center operator. Williams-Paisley calls Nashville home, where she lives with her husband, “Whiskey Lullaby” singer Brad Paisley and their sons.

Filling out the main cast are Chris O’Donnell (“NCIS: Los Angeles”) as fire captain and rodeo rider Don Hart; Jessica Capshaw (“Grey’s Anatomy”) as Blythe Hart, Don’s wife; Hailey Kilgore (“Power Book III: Raising Kanan”) as firefighter and singer Taylor Thompson; Michael Provost (“The Holdovers,” 2023)

as firefighter and cowboy Ryan Hart; Juani Feliz (“Harlem”) as firefighter and former surgeon Roxie Alba; and newcomer Hunter McVey as bad-boy firefighter Blue Bennings, Dixie’s son.

Recurring cast members include Gregory Alan Williams (“The Righteous Gemstones”) as Harold Foster, MacKenzie Porter (“The Runarounds”) as Samantha Hart and Tim Matheson (“Virgin River”) as Edward.

The frequent collaborators behind long-running hits such as anthology series “American Horror Story,” Ryan Murphy and Tim Minear teamed up with “9-1-1: Lone Star” writer and producer Raisani to co-create the new spinoff series. Brad Falchuk (“American Crime Story”) executive produces the series alongside the creators, “9-1-1” star Angela Bassett, O’Donnell and Bradley Buecker (“Scream Queens”).

The third installment in the “9-1-1” franchise, “9-1-1: Nashville” has arrived just as “9-1-1: Lone Star” completed its five-season run on Fox. Set in the same universe, “Doctor Odyssey” was cancelled this summer at ABC after just one season, despite a passionate fan base. It has been an eventful year for the franchise with some unexpected shake-ups that really got viewers talking. “9-1-1” fans will know that a major character death last season shocked viewers who thought if anyone was safe, it was fire captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause, “Parenthood”) who was exposed and succumbed to a lethal virus.

With “9-1-1: Nashville” premiering immediately after the originating series’ ninth season return, it begs the question

of crossover possibilities. Entertainment Weekly posed that question to Minear during an interview about the landscape

She was a judge on “Iron Chef America” in 2013, then she was a host on “Valerie’s Home Cooking” (2015-23), “Kids Baking Championship” (201524), and “Family Food Showdown” and “Family Restaurant Rivals” (both 2018). She also was a “Cutthroat Kitchen” judge in 2015 and a “Food Network Star” judge in 2016. Before “Hot in Cleveland,” which was the first original series done by TV Land when it initially ran from 2010 to 2015, Bertinelli starred in several other series as an actress. Of course, she became a star as Barbara on the often topical, Norman Lear-produced CBS sitcom “One Day at a Time” (1975-84) ... which also set her up to become one of the most popular stars of TV movies of that era, most of which were top-rated when they aired.

In 1990, Bertinelli played the title role of a private detective in her hometown in “Sydney,” a CBS comedy that also starred a pre-”Friends” Matthew Perry as her brother. Her next starring series vehicle was NBC’s “Cafe Americain” (1993-94), featuring her as a very American waitress in a Paris cafe.

Then, in 2001, Bertinelli joined the cast of the CBS drama “Touched by an Angel” as Gloria, a novice angel under the tutelage of Monica and Tess (Roma Downey, Della Reese). She stayed with that series for the rest of its run, until 2003. After that, “Hot in Cleveland” was her next weekly-role stop.

Season 10 sees relationships faltering

The landmark 10th season of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” makes a bold impression with a supersized premiere landing Sunday, Oct. 5, on Bravo, with all episodes streaming the next day on Peacock.

In a season promising nonstop drama between the Wives — drama that rips through relationships, business ventures and friendships, according to Bravo — this history-making 10th season will see the return of some familiar “RHOP” faces, including busy single mom Gizelle Bryant, holistic health enthusiast Ashley Darby, political analyst Wendy Osefo, entrepreneur Stacey Rusch and MedSpa owner Keiarna Stewart. The ladies will be joined by two new Housewives — Tia Glover, a British-Nigerian real estate adviser, and Angel Massie, an experiential curator — and by longstanding “RHOP” player Monique Samuels, who makes her long-awaited comeback to the series following her Season 5 exit and “stirs the pot as a friend of the Housewives,” per Bravo.

In an announcement shared by the network, “RHOP” promises this double-digit season will offer a “new chapter with fresh reads,” as OG housewife Gizelle “steps up to bring the ladies together, but never fails to keep them in check.”

A first-look preview for the upcoming season shared a glimpse of what’s to come, as Gizelle writes to Karen Huger and explains: “In a lot of ways, life has been moving on ... and some things haven’t changed at all.” For Gizelle, that means “embracing the single life with a few new prospects, as her castmates speculate about

her actual relationship status” (per Bravo).

“Everyone knows you have a boyfriend,” Stacey explains, later in the preview.

The “boyfriend” in question? Well, that just might be Mauricio Umansky — the estranged husband of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Kyle Richards — who has been seen getting comfortable at Gizelle’s side.

There’s more drama to be seen between Gizelle and Stacey, however, as the two are later seen arguing in the season’s preview. Stacey, who recently founded a cannabis brand called SHAYO, is called out by Gizelle, who believes the woman’s latest business venture will put Stacey in direct conflict with Wendy’s husband, Eddie Osefo, who runs a cannabis line of his own: Happy Eddie.

Seeing friendships falter and new relationships formed, Season 10 of “The Real Housewives of Potomac” premieres Sunday, Oct. 5, on Bravo, with all episodes streaming the next day on Peacock.
