ehinton@shawmedia.com POLO – They came as hot dogs, escaped inmates and even the all-knowing Yoda – and when it was all said and done, drizzle didn’t matter to the canines that took part in the 2023 Doggy Dash on Oct. 14. Despite a steady light rain, 50 pups and their owners arrived outside the Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on Saturday morning for the event, which included a costume contest, 5K run and 1-mile walk – all to benefit a local animal shelter. This year’s event, organized and run by members of Polo High School’s Student Council, marked its second year. “We had 50 participants and 10 student council helpers. We will be donating $500 to Happy Tails Humane Society,” said Emily Meinert, a Polo HIgh School teacher and student council adviser. Under the canopy of the rehab and care center, the first order of business after the unofficial “meet-greet-barksniff” was the costume contest. The best Single entry went to Jeff Bargar of Polo as a Marcos football coach with Lani dressed as a mini Marcos football player. The best Double entry was awarded to Kye and Dom Escobar, 7 and 11, as mustard and ketchup with their dogs Mario and Murphy dressed as hot dogs in a bun. The award for best Small Group was won by Julie, Brady and Evynn Sanders as police and prisoners. Their dogs Havek and Rukus were in tow as a police officer and inmate. The overall winner was the Joines family with their cast of Star Wars characters. Paula Joines with Ziggy and Annie, along with Kevin, Beth and Amelia Manus with Ginger and Sean and Emily Meinert with Eden came dressed as Star Wars characters including a stormtrooper, Jedi knight, Ewok and Emily’s dog, Eden, as Yoda. Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center residents could watch the wild and wet action from the comfort of the center’s lobby. Katelyn Rockwood of Polo and her three-legged dog Willow was one of the participants again this year. Willow, who broke her leg six years ago and had to have it amputated, didn’t have any issue joining in the unofficial sniffing session that each dog demanded before the start of official festivities. After the costume contest, participants left the covered and dry entryway and ventured out into the rain for the 5K and walk. Results of the 5K were: 18 and younger: 1. Ryder Faivre, 2. Easton Faivre, 3. Ashlyn Rinaldi.

shelters and cares for stray and abandoned dogs and cats until they are adopted into loving, permanent homes. “We promote pet adoption and humane education. Waterbury family from Washington visits the museum We had a full table at our recent board meeting. As people came in, other people drifted by our door and I realized we had visitors at the museum. Paula checked on our visitors and they seemed to be taking care of themselves so I forgot about them. Toward the end of our board meeting, Mike went to see if our visitors needed anything and he soon returned. He informed me that they needed my help. They were Waterbury people from the state of Washington and they were part of my husband’s family. Nellie Obendorf, my husband’s mother, had been a Waterbury and we had not had Waterbury people here researching for a number of years. Linda and I sprang into action. She started writing down all the particulars of these two women while I got out the massive Waterbury file. John

POLO HISTORY Betty Obendorf Waterbury, Kenneth’s great-great-grandfather, had come to this area in 1836 to run the Underground Railroad. He came with Solomon Shafer and they had led the Delaware Colony group to Buffalo Grove. They had a job to do and they were not a popular group at that time. The women that afternoon had found the big Underground Railroad spiral notebook that is right on top of the bookcase and, of course, John Waterbury is the first one in the book. The women thought they had hit the jackpot right off the bat.

When I started bringing out the massive file of information, they were overwhelmed and hardly knew what they wanted. But they soon figured out they wanted the genealogy of the family and detailed articles on Charles Noble and Helen Dement. We worked for two hours simply getting a feel of all the information. They would be back in two days and Linda and I had that time to pull together the material they wanted. Linda worked with the internet and I looked into the history books. The books gave excellent information on Charles Noble and a family picture that included Helen Dement. Linda found more on Helen and the Noble family. Then I found in our massive file the genealogy that Kenneth’s sister Imogene Obendorf Heins had written out by hand of all the family tree with Charles Noble and Helen Dement on it.

They wanted all 27 pages, along with other information from the file. Ivan Livingston’s family had brought in pictures a few years ago that were different from what we already had and they wanted copies of those. Linda now has their email and she will continue to keep in touch to see how they are coming along with putting their part of the Waterbury family together. They left with two history books of Polo, much information of the history of their family and where they can find more help if needed. We were pleased with the donation to the Polo Historical Society and the good feeling of being able to help people connect to their families.

New high school in Oregon was built for $25,000 in 1895 By OTTO DICK The following article is from a story in the 1895 Ogle County Republican newspaper, a forerunner of the Oregon Republican Reporter. The headline reads: Our New School Building – Erected At A Cost Of Over $25,000. “The new schoolhouse is a building of which we may well be proud. Next to the courthouse, it is the finest building in the county. For years, the Oregon Public School has been noted for its high standard of learning despite the bad quarters which it was forced to occupy and now it will have surroundings commensurate with its high standing. “The need of a new schoolhouse has long been felt in Oregon, but it was not until late years that the question has been strongly agitated. In 1892, the question whether a new schoolhouse should be built or not was voted upon and defeated. Again in 1894, the project was again voted upon and this time carried. Later, a vote was taken regarding the site, which resulted in the choice of the Gale site.”

The Oregon High School was constructed in 1895. (This location in Oregon was where our first mayor, James Gale, built a log cabin when he moved to Oregon.) “The outside of the building is of St. Louis buff pressed brick laid in chocolate-colored motor and makes a very pretty appearance. The basement is of Ashton Stone. The roof is of slate with galvanized iron cornices. “The first floor has five large class-

rooms, the general dimensions of which are 25 by 30 feet. It also has six dressing rooms. “The second floor has three classrooms about the same dimensions as those below and a high school room, 39 by 53 feet, with recitation room off from it. On this floor, the school superintendent also has a recitation room with a laboratory, sink, etc.

Ronald Reagan is known all over the world. But few know about his big brother, Neil, who was nicknamed “Moon.” Even fewer realize all the ways the two brothers helped each other in their successful careers.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, Dixon speaker Tom Wadsworth will come to the Oregon Depot Museum to present “How Dutch Helped Moon: The Story of the Reagan Brothers of Dixon.” The one-hour presentation will reveal how Ronald Reagan influenced his big brother’s college education and career in

radio, movies, media and advertising and how Neil Reagan influenced the success of Ronald Reagan’s political career. The event is free and open to the public. From the time the first settler, attracted by its many advantages, erected the first log cabin there seemed to hover a negative spell around Oregon, only in the late years broken, to keep it from reaching its proper place among cities.” The architects of the building, McMurray and Davis, were from Chicago. The builder was Glanfield and Son of Dixon. The quotes above give us an insight of language of that time. I enjoyed the reference to Oregon as the capital of Ogle County. When this building was removed, my father-in-law Don Mattison gave me a load of brick from the school. Now when you enter our home, you are stepping on brick from the 1895 high school building.

Former police chief Rockwood Trial continued to December after defense witness balks at testifying hired as Polo’s interim chief Chief Troy Randall stepping down to take job as head of Lanark Police Department By ALEXA ZOELLNER

azoellner@shawmedia.com POLO – Polo city officials are set to begin a search for a new police chief. Chief Troy Randall’s final day with the Polo Police Department is Saturday, Oct. 21. He resigned to take a position as the Lanark chief of police. “I started in Lanark and it’s always been a dream of mine to finish where I started,” said Ran- Tim Rockwood dall, who lives in Lanark. “The opportunity kind of presented itself a lot sooner than what I expected, but I didn’t want to pass it by. I will miss working for Polo.” Randall said he worked at the Polo Police Department for almost 10 years. He was appointed police chief on Sept. 20, 2021, after about 21/2 months as interim chief. “It’s been good. It’s been very good,” he said. “I got a lot of experience that I probably wouldn’t have gotten anywhere else. I met a lot of nice people and worked with a great group of guys. That’s another thing I’ll be missing as well.”

On Oct. 16, Polo City Council members voted 5-1 to hire Tim Rockwood of Polo as the interim chief. Rockwood’s pay was set at $45 an hour and his time in the position was limited to a maximum of three months. Alderman Randy Schoon voted against hiring Rockwood, but did not comment on his reasoning. Rockwood said Mayor Doug Knapp asked him to serve as interim chief and he agreed in order to help out the city. “I’m honored that I was asked and am looking forward to helping out and basically just being useful in a niche I can do,” Rockwood said. Rockwood is Randall’s predecessor as well as a curTroy Randall rent Polo Public Works Department employee. He served as Polo police chief from Feb. 18, 2020, to July 19, 2021, when he resigned for personal reasons. Less than a month after stepping down from his spot as chief, Rockwood was rehired by the city’s Public Works Department, where he had worked before joining the Polo Police Department in 2016. Rockwood will return to his position with the Public Works Department after a new police chief is hired. At that time, his pay will be $23 an hour, which is a $2 increase from his current pay rate within the department.

OBITUARY GISA A. VINNEDGE Born: March 20, 1943 Died: October 10, 2023 Gisa A. Vinnedge, age 80 of Amboy, IL passed on October 10, 2023 in Serenity Hospice & Home, Oregon, IL. Gisa was born on March 20, 1943 in Bad-Oeynhausen, Germany, the daughter of Fritz Meyer and Lore Meyer Bogdanovich. She moved to the United States in 1952. Children: Dave (Kim) Vinnedge- Forreston IL. Chuck (Farah) Vinnedge Woodbridge Va. Vickie (Bill) Gerdes Amboy IL; Grandchildren: Justin, Jared, Rebecca, Dalton, Eli, Garrett, Mayson, Alyssa, Lauren, Nathan, Elizabeth, Andrew, Rachel, Aaron; she also had many great grandchildren. Gisa loved spending time with her family and all her extended friends and family

dearly. Gisa’s favorite TV pastime was watching tennis! She loved jokes, funny cards, and playing Euchre. In her early days she did synchronized swimming, loved horseback riding, and the beach. She was also a great bowler. Gisa always had a punch line ready. She was an only child, a very stubborn German, and lived her life to the fullest. Everyone who knew her truly loved her. She had a love for garage sales and found the perfect treasures for everyone! Literally! She was preceded in death by both her parents; bonus daughter: Laurie Vinnedge Teadt; daughter: Kristina Lynn Vinnedge; and a grandson: Jacob Vinnedge. A graveside service will be held at the Byron City Cemetery on 10/21/23 at 10am following with a Celebration of Life at the Mt Morris Moose Club, 101 Moose Drive, Mt. Morris Illinois 61054 with Pastor John Kalebaugh officiating from 11-4pm with lunch provided. In Lieu of flowers Gisa would like donations to go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Autism Awareness Association.

ehinton@shawmedia.com OREGON – A jury trial scheduled to begin this week was delayed until December after a defense witness refused to come to court. Jeremy G. Jones, 42, of Byron, was scheduled to begin a two-day trial Oct. 17. He is charged with felony charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. The charges stem from a Dec. 31, 2022, incident in the 200 block of Route 26 in downtown Forreston. Jones is accused of hitting one person Jeremy Guy Jones with his car and stabbing another on New Year’s Eve. On Monday, Jones’ attorney, William Gibbs, filed a motion asking for the continuance stating that a material witness for the defense had indicated in a phone call that she would not appear in court despite being subpoenaed to do so. In the motion, Gibbs said that during the phone call the witness used an expletive and said, “I’m not coming. You can arrest me. I don’t care.” When he reminded the witness through text messages that she had been subpoenaed and was required to attend and did not receive a response, he filed the emergency motion to continue, court records indicate. The motion says the woman called as a witness was present during the incident and has given statements that contradict some of those given by state witnesses planned to be called during the trial. “This motion is made proactively to avoid possible inconvenience of jurors and the court in the event a motion is required upon her failure to appear,” Gibbs wrote. “The defendant will be severely prejudiced if the trial proceeds in her absence.” Judge John Redington granted the continuance Monday over an objection by Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew Leisten. On Tuesday, the witness appeared in court and Redington issued an order continuing her sub-

poena to Dec. 19-20 and ordering that she must appear at the trial. Jones pleaded not guilty to all charges in January after a preliminary hearing at which Ogle County Patrol Deputy Matthew Gendusa said he responded to an altercation at 10:40 p.m. Dec. 31 in which one person reportedly had been stabbed and another was hit by a vehicle. Gendusa said a female driver told him she was driving her truck on state Route 26 when a sedan began tailgating her near Forreston. He said the woman told him she “brake checked” three times before pulling the vehicle into a parking lot at Josh’s Saloon. A male passenger in her truck exited the vehicle and approached the sedan, exchanging words with the driver, who was identified as Jones. The man told Gendusa that Jones sped up and hit him, prompting the woman to try to stop the vehicle by grabbing at the driver’s side window. Gendusa said he later learned that she had suffered a stab wound in the shoulder that required stitches at Freeport Hospital. He said he also was told that the man had suffered a concussion after falling down when he was struck by the sedan. Only prosecution witnesses testify at preliminary hearings. In closing arguments at the January hearing, Gibbs said Jones was defending himself from “people who jumped out of their car” and started screaming at him and that “there was a woman hanging on to his car trying to attack him.” Leisten argued that Jones had a knife on him when he was stopped by another deputy after the incident. Jones initially was arrested for attempted first-degree murder, but those charges were revised after the state’s attorney’s office reviewed reports and spoke with law enforcement. Prosecutors also dismissed a felony charge of aggravated battery causing great bodily harm, two counts of unlawful possession of cannabis, speeding and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Redington set a motion hearing for Nov. 9 and a final pretrial hearing for Dec. 13. Jones remains free on $50,000 bond.

On Sept. 30 as part of the “Those Were the Days” lecture series at the Oregon Depot Museum, three past members of the Oregon Park District Board gave a presentation of the history and development of the park district. Former board members Chris Martin and Beth Simeone and 32-year board veteran Steve Pennock shared their perspectives. Executive director Erin Folk explained the financial management developments during the district’s history. Pennock displayed a timeline of the park district’s development from 1966 to the present. The timeline is on the Oregon Depot Museum’s website, www.oregondepot.com. Martin and Simeone described the development of the park district from small beginnings to its present form and the court battle that enabled much of its growth. Folk shared the vision of the district moving forward. The Oregon Park District grew out of

They decided instead that the best way to move forward was to form the Oregon Park District. Anne Geiken, president of the Oregon Woman’s Club at the time and active in these groups, persuaded the OWC to bear the costs of

holding an election and in December 1966, the formation of the park district was approved by voters. Geiken served on the first park district board for a number of years. She also persuaded the Oregon Woman’s Club to contribute $4,000 toward the construction of the pool. But it was not until after several failed pool referendums and the acquisi-

tion of the Nash School property in 1982 that construction on the Nash Recreation Center began. The Nash Recreation Center provided a site for the indoor pool, which opened in 1986. Before that, however, in the late 1970s, the construction of the Byron Nuclear Power Plant began and a forward-thinking park district board realized the opportunity its location presented. A court battle with the newly proposed Byron Park District over which park district would receive the benefits of the revenue stream from the power plant taxes was settled in Oregon’s favor. That revenue enabled many of the park district’s later projects, including the Nash Recreation Center, the Blackhawk Center and the acquisition of several smaller parks in the city and the refurbishment of some of the older parks. The park district manages more than 140 acres of parkland, including playgrounds, a splash park, baseball diamonds, basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, a concert area and river fishing area.

The annual Oregon Rotary Club Foundation scholarship program began in 1984, thanks to the Cirksena

family’s generous donation to the club. The club awarded one $500 college scholarship that first year. Foundation members nurtured the scholarship program and it continued to develop. In 2014, the program expanded to include graduating high school seniors thanks to a generous donation from Catherine Ehnen. In 39 years, the program has awarded more than $450,000 to more than 200 students who best manifested the ideals of Rotary International. The decision process is a very difficult yet rewarding experience because of the large number of outstanding applicants who apply each year. The Oregon community should be

very proud of these individuals who are not only excellent students but participate in activities geared toward helping others. The Oregon Rotary Club Foundation appreciates the many applicants to the scholarship program. Our district is fortunate to have so many scholars of distinction. Watching the game, it was apparent how valuable the passing game is for Oregon in opening up an opponent’s defense. It is very hard to run the ball when the other team has 10 guys at the line of scrimmage. Forreston also took a tough loss, though it outgained Pec-Durand in total offense. Needing four downs multiple times to get first downs proved costly to the Cardinals. The NUIC continued to impress with Fulton taking down 2A state-ranked and undefeated Knoxville 42-0. A real test comes the final week of the season with Pec-Durand traveling to Illinois Wesleyan to take on Belleville Althoff, which should be Le-Win’s biggest challenge in 1A. Unfortunately for Polo, its Week 8 football game against Peoria Quest was canceled after a forfeit by Quest. Could it have been because Quest was tired of going on the road for every single game this season and losing by wide margins? Its closest contest was the previous

week against River Ridge, a 50-28 loss and a five-hour round trip. Of its final five games, Polo was the nearest locale to Quest. For this newly formed charter school, fielding an inexperienced roster without a home field became too daunting of a proposition. A growth impediment for 8-man has been schools such as Quest that have tried to establish a football program only to discover they are woefully inadequate. Blowouts in 8-man are more the norm than closely contested games. The only real competition Polo had was against Milledgeville, Cambridge and Amboy. And travel remains a concern. Finally, did you know that this fall marks the 50th anniversary of the greatest movie ever made on post high school life – “American Graffiti.” I distinctly remember sitting in a theater and the impact the George Lucas film had on me. It truly depicted a point in time (1962) with historical accuracy, had brilliant casting and a soundtrack that melded perfectly with the action on the film. • Andy Colbert, an avid runner, has been a sports writer for Shaw Media and has covered high school sports in Ogle County for more than 30 years.

With the last week of regular-season football upon us, I’ve given up on trying to forecast how the classes will shake out. However, one certainty that has been reinforced is Lena-Winslow and Byron looking unstoppable. Byron has put a running clock on every opponent it has played in the first eight games, a feat rarely accomplished. This column went to press before Byron and Stillman Valley played and also before Le-Win played Forreston on Friday night. Traditionally, Stillman Valley plays Byron as tough as anyone, likewise with Forreston against Le-Win. The bigger question is whether anyone in the 1A and 3A playoffs can match up with Byron and Le-Win. The 1A bracket appears to be as tough as it’s ever been, but we really won’t know exactly how it will shake out until the pairings are announced. The only wild card in 3A will be Lombard Montini, which might come in at 5-4 with its tough Catholic League schedule. For now, the Tigers are the runaway favorite to join the 1999 team as state champions. Oregon, likely to be slotted in 3A, was dealt a blow to a higher seed with a loss to Rockford Lutheran. OREGON – On a rainy night at Landers-Loomis Field, the mistake-ridden Oregon Hawks were taken down by Rockford Lutheran 22-14 in a battle of two teams fighting for a playoff berth and/or seeding. Trailing 22-8 late in the fourth quarter, the Hawks almost made a miraculous comeback, but Lutheran recovered a fumble at the 5-yard line with one minute left to preserve the close win. Up until the final few minutes, the Hawks’ offense was stagnant as Lutheran stacked the box and stymied the rushing game and the passing game was virtually nonexistent. But things began to get crazy with Logan Weems breaking free for a 58-yard run after a Lutheran field goal made it 22-8. However, a first-and-goal situation resulted in no gains and Lutheran took the ball over on downs. On the very next play, Lutheran

fumbled the ball back and Oregon had it at the Lutheran 17-yard line with another chance to score. That chance went by the wayside as Jack Washburn threw an interception. The turnovers continued with Jackson Glendenning forcing and recovering a Lutheran fumble. This time, the Hawks took advantage with Weems scoring a touchdown with 2:20 left in the game. Lutheran recovered an onside kick, but could not gain a first down. Taking over at its own 37-yard line with 1:51 left and the rain still coming down hard, Oregon’s passing game finally came alive. Griffin Marlatt kick-started it with an 18-yard reception. On fourth down, Washburn and Austin Egyed connected on a 15-yard pass, which took the ball to the Lutheran 26-yard line with 1:13 left. Egyed then made another 15-yard catch, but lost the ball fighting for extra yards and Lutheran recovered the loose ball, drowning out what appeared to be a scoring drive. After Oregon gained only 22 yards of offense in the first half and clung to an 8-7 lead, Weems (25 carries, 133 yards) led Oregon to almost 200 yards of total offense for the game.

Lutheran takes a knee to run out the clock as heavy rain falls on Landers-Loomis Field on Oct. 13. Oregon lost the game 22-14. Washburn finished 5-of-17 passing for 62 yards. What hurt Oregon was nine penalties for 85 yards, three lost fumbles and one interception. Lutheran had 123 yards of total offense, all on rushes. It was a pass interference penalty that set up Lutheran’s first score, a 5-yard run by David Ballard in the

first quarter. Ballard was part of a large group of juniors and sophomores who made up the bulk of Lutheran’s playmakers. However, a fumbled snap, one of many on the night for Oregon, gave the ball right back to Lutheran at the 26-yard line of the Hawks. Using linebacker Hunter Evans to carry the ball up the middle, Lutheran advanced to the 2-yard line and scored a touchdown on fourth down to make it 13-8. The Crusaders increased the lead to 19-8 on a 28-yard touchdown by Sanders in which he ran a sweep untouched. That score was set up by another Hawks fumble. The Hawks finally completed their first pass, a 12-yarder to Egyed and Lutheran began to loosen up their defense. Three incompletions and a penalty gave the ball back to Lutheran and Dixon Santana responded with a field goal for a 22-8 lead before Oregon started its frantic comeback. It was the 10th win by Lutheran over Oregon in the past 11 games and kept alive their playoff chances with a key game against Genoa-Kington to close out the year. Both teams are 4-4 and the winner will move on. Oregon, also 4-4, closes out with cellar dweller Rockford Christian on Friday in Rockford.

Miller, 31, of Oregon, was arrested at 8:24 p.m. for aggravated driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving while under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle with no valid driver’s license and a valid in-state warrant after a traffic stop in the 1000 block of West Pines Road. Miller also was cited for improper lane use. Miller was transported to the Ogle County jail where he was held in lieu of bond.

Trevor M. Barber, 23, of Chicago, was arrested at 10:40 p.m. for driving while license suspended and improper container of cannabis as a driver after a traffic stop in the 2000 block of West Illinois Route 64. Barber also was issued citations for suspended registration and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. He was issued a notice to appear and released on scene. At 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to the 800 block of West Flagg Road in Lost Nation for a reported violation of bond conditions. After an investigation, Albert Brooks, 40, of Dixon, was arrested on two counts of violation of bond conditions. Brooks was transported to the Ogle County jail and must appear before a judge. He also was charged with

Sheriff’s Office announces IDOT grant enforcement results

The Ogle County Sheriff’s Office released the results of supplementary enforcement efforts conducted via the federal fiscal 2023 Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program. The STEP campaign ran from Oct. 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2023. Over the course of the year sheriff’s deputies worked 60 hours of additional patrol time that was funded by the grant. As a result of this enforcement, deputies conducted 73 traffic stops that resulted in 59 citations being issued and made two criminal arrests. The activity included 42 citations for speeding, 13 citations for other traffic offenses, four arrests for no valid/suspended/revoked licenses and two warrant arrests. The STEP campaign was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

an uninsured motor vehicle. The violations occurred at the intersection of Gale Street and Pines Road. Tiffany A. Probst, 45, of Leaf River, was issued a citation at 10:04 a.m. for operating a vehicle with an expired registration. The violation occurred in the 200 block of North Third Street. At 12:25 p.m., police investigated a two-vehicle traffic crash at the intersection of North Fourth and Fair Streets involving a 2015 Chrysler driven by Erica L. Morgan, 27, of Polo, and a 2002 Honda driven by Sergio Carreno, 51, of Oregon. Morgan was issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Seven parking citations and 15 verbal warnings were issued Oct. 2-8.

2023 List of Assessment Changes The following is a list of assessment changes made in Grand Detour, Lafayette, Oregon-Nashua, Pine Creek, Pine Rock, Rockvale and Taylor townships by the township assessor, and/or approved or revised by the supervisor of assessments. The values shown are after the application of equalization factors. Under the authority of 35 ILCS 200/9-210 (Illinois Compiled Statutes), notice is hereby given that the following equalization factors (or “multipliers”) have been applied to all nonfarm land and improvements on class 0010, 0011, 0020, 0028, 0030, 0040, 0050, 0060 and 0070 properties in the following townships, all other classes received a 1.0000 factor; Grand Detour 1.0929 Lafayette 1.0903 Oregon-Nashua 1.0804 Pine Creek 1.0929 Pine Rock 1.0903 Rockvale 1.0498 Taylor 1.0903

Pursuant to 35 ILCS 200/10-115, the farmland assessments for the 2023 assessment year have increased by 10% of the preceding year’s median cropped soil productivity index per acre as certified by the Illinois Department of Revenue. Data was provided by the Farmland Assessment Advisory Board and approved by the Ogle County Farmland Assessment Review Committee resulting in an increase in assessment of $42.61 per acre for each soil productivity index. Pursuant to 35 ILCS 200/12-10, individual notices will not be mailed on properties with assessment changes due to equalization alone. The factors shown are determined by the Illinois Department of Revenue’s most recent sales-to-assessment ratio study, and take into consideration any assessment changes made by the assessor. These factors bring the average assessment level in the townships to 33 1/3% of market value, and they will be applied to the categories of property listed above. Your township assessor is listed below. Your property is to be assessed at the above median level. You may check the accuracy of your assessment by the following procedure: divide your assessment by 0.3333 (median level of assessments). The resulting value should equal the estimated fair cash value of your property. If the resulting value is greater than the fair cash value of your property, you may be over-assessed. If the resulting value is less than the fair cash value of your property, you may be under-assessed. If you believe your property’s fair cash value is incorrect or that the equalized assessed valuation is not uniform with other comparable properties in the same neighborhood, the following steps should be taken: 1. Contact your township assessor to review the assessment. 2. If you are not satisfied with the assessor review, taxpayers may file a complaint with the Ogle County Board of Review. 2023 List of Assessment Changes The following is a list of assessment changes made in Eagle Point, Buffalo and Woosung townships by the township assessor, and/ or approved or revised by the supervisor of assessments. The values shown are after the application of equalization factors. Under the authority of 35 ILCS 200/9-210 (Illinois Compiled Statutes), notice is hereby given that the following equalization factors (or “multipliers”) have been applied to all nonfarm land and improvements on class 0010, 0011, 0020, 0028, 0030, 0040, 0050, 0060 and 0070 properties in the following townships, all other classes received a 1.0000 factor; Eagle Point 1.0929 Buffalo 1.0756 Woosung 1.0929 Pursuant to 35 ILCS 200/10-115, the farmland assessments for the 2023 assessment year have increased by 10% of the preceding year’s median cropped soil productivity index per acre as certified by the Illinois Department of Revenue. Data was provided by the Farmland Assessment Advisory Board and approved by the Ogle County Farmland Assessment Review Committee resulting in an increase in assessment of $42.61 per acre for each soil productivity index. Pursuant to 35 ILCS 200/12-10, individual notices will not be mailed on properties with assessment changes due to equalization alone. The factors shown are determined by the Illinois Department of Revenue’s most recent sales-to-assessment ratio study, and take into consideration any assessment changes made by the assessor. These factors bring the average assessment level in the townships to 33 1/3% of market value, and they will be applied to the categories of property listed above. Your township assessor is listed below. Your property is to be assessed at the above median level. You may check the accuracy of your assessment by the following procedure: divide your assessment by 0.3333

(median level of assessments). The resulting value should equal the estimated fair cash value of your property. If the resulting value is greater than the fair cash value of your property, you may be over-assessed. If the resulting value is less than the fair cash value of your property, you may be under-assessed. If you believe your property’s fair cash value is incorrect or that the equalized assessed valuation is not uniform with other comparable properties in the same neighborhood, the following steps should be taken: 1. Contact your township assessor to review the assessment. 2. If you are not satisfied with the assessor review, taxpayers may file a complaint with the Ogle County Board of Review. For complaint forms, instructions, and the Rules and Procedures of the Board of Review, call (815) 732-1150 or visit www.oglecountyil. gov for more information. 3. File a complaint of assessment with the Board of Review. The final filing deadline for your township is generally 30 days from this publication date. After this date, the Board of Review is prohibited by law from accepting assessment complaints for properties in this townships. Universal Telephone Assistance Programs Administered in Illinois by the Universal Telephone Assistance Corporation (UTAC) LifeLine Program Making local phone service affordable Lifeline is a program which provides $5.25 in assistance to help pay monthly charge from local telephone service. This federally funded program is available to qualified low-income consumers. If the qualifying low-income consumer voluntarily elects toll blocking while initiating Lifeline service, a service deposit is not required. If toll blocking is unavailable, the carrier may charge a service deposit. Toll blocking will prevent the connection of outgoing toll calls from a residence. Who is eligible for these programs? You are eligible if you are a recipient of one of the following programs: Medicaid SNAP (food stamps) Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Federal Public Housing Assistance Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit Customer households income is at or below 135% of the National Poverty Guidelines, for household of that size Where can I apply for the LifeLine and/or LinkUp programs? For additional information or enrollment in these programs, contact the Leaf River Telephone Company. Link-up and Lifeline are federally funded programs.
