A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE NORTHERN KANE COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE (NKCC)
The Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce is a regional chamber that serves as an advocate and support system for businesses across Carpentersville, East Dundee, Gilberts, Sleepy Hollow, and West Dundee.
The Chamber’s mission is simple yet vital: to serve as a dedicated advocate and robust support system for every business across our unique villages. We believe that a strong local economy is the foundation of a thriving community.
Over the years, I have learned that challenges are an inevitable part of the business landscape. It is how you show up during those times of challenge that truly defines who you are as a person and as a business owner.
I can say with conviction that the business owners in our Northern Kane County communities are dedicated, hard-working, and wonderfully resilient. Watching their transformation and success, especially through complex times, is not always easy, but it is always profoundly rewarding. Their spirit is the heartbeat of our community.
In addition to supporting our business community, I am personally involved in several nonprofit boards that enrich our region. For example, our Dollars for Scholars Committee awarded $10,000 in scholarships last year to local students pursuing their educational dreams.
Supporting our local businesses is crucial for a thriving community. When you shop locally, you’re not only backing your neighbors but also helping fund police, fire services, schools, city services, and other resources that enhance our quality of life. Every dollar spent locally is an investment in the vitality of Northern Kane, contributing to a vibrant, connected community we can all be proud to call home.
The chamber encourages you to support these dedicated individuals by shopping local, exploring our unique establishments, and joining us for upcoming community events.
Sincerely,
MELISSA HERNANDEZ President, NKCC

SPA BLEU
Nominee
Tammy Coakley started Spa Bleu with a vision, a strong work ethic inherited from her parents, and a belief that beauty and wellness could transform lives. There was no roadmap, no investor—just a tiny space, borrowed equipment, and determination to create something meaningful. From the beginning, Tammy chose Aveda because its mission aligned with the heart of Spa Bleu—mindful,
sustainable, connected to nature, and focused on caring for people, not just performing services. Aveda’s philosophy shaped the team’s training, communication, and guest experience. Leadership didn’t come easily. Tammy learned through mistakes, self-doubt, and the responsibility of being the one others look to when things get tough. She discovered that leadership isn’t about perfection—it’s about being real, accountable, listening, and making decisions that honor both people and purpose. The Spa Bleu team has been essential to its success. Tammy has watched them grow from shy students to confident professionals and leaders. Their dedication turned Spa Bleu from an idea into a thriving

community. From humble beginnings, Spa Bleu has grown to three locations, a strong reputation, and a culture built on compassion and Aveda values. It is a story of grit, gratitude, and turning a dream into reality.
WOODFIRE PIZZA
Nominee
Woodfire Brick Oven Pizza is a true familyowned success story that began in 2010, when the business launched as a mobile wood-fired oven serving everything from graduation parties to late-night snacks at wedding receptions. emerging district of downtown Rockford, IL. The warm, inviting atmosphere and authentic brick-oven flavors resonated with the community, setting the stage for further expansion. In 2018, Woodfire brought its signature pizzas to downtown West Dundee, IL, opening a second location inside a beautifully preserved historic building. Today, both restaurants sit just steps from scenic riverwalks and are surrounded by vibrant, one-of-a-kind local businesses, capturing the small-town charm and sense of community the family always envisioned. Woodfire continues to be a place where families gather, friends connect, and the tradition of great food made with passion remains at the heart of everything they do.

x EASTSIDE CAFÉ AND WINE BAR
Customer Excellence Award Recipient
In August 2018, Kate purchased what was formerly the Uncommon Palate after nearly ten years working for the Social Security Administration. With two young boys and a long commute to Chicago, the move to owning a business closer to home allowed her to set her own schedule and focus on family.
Over the past seven years, Kate has navigated many challenges, including COVID, failed business ventures, and returning to full-time employment. Despite these twists and turns, Eastside Cafe has remained true to its original vision. The
cafe has become a gathering place where customers feel like family, and Kate has had the joy of watching many children grow up alongside her own.
Eastside Cafe is known for its coffee flights, unique wine selection, and, for the kids, its popular hot chocolate. In 2020 (or possibly 2021), the cafe underwent a name change, and in September 2024, it moved into a larger location to better serve its community. Through it all, Kate’s mission remains simple: Eastside Cafe is a safe, welcoming place for everyone to gather.

It also features a monument honoring American service members, and the Dundee Historical Society offers annual tours to share its rich history. NVILLAGE OF SLEEPY HOLLOW
estled within Dundee Township, the Village of Sleepy Hollow stands as a charming hamlet, its history dating back to its establishment in 1958. This idyllic residential community, home to fewer than 3,400 residents, is a departure from the bustling business and industry found in its Fox River Valley neighbors. Sleepy Hollow’s appeal lies in its rural tranquility, offering respite from the clamor, traffic, and urban pressures.
The citizens of Sleepy Hollow hold deep affection for their closeknit family community. Guided by a dedicated president and board of trustees, the village remains resolute in preserving its rustic small-town ambiance while embracing the promise of the future. This community honors its history even as it progresses into the next century.
Floyd Falese, Sleepy Hollow’s inaugural village president and the visionary behind its unique character, enlisted the expertise of landscape artist and renowned planner Raymond W. Hazekamp. Together, they conceived a village with meandering roads, absent of curbs and sidewalks, leading to cul-de-sacs and homes nestled on generous half-acre lots. Hazekamp aptly coined this design “the Sleepy Hollow concept of good living,” and remarkably, not a single tree was felled in the process.

Job change?
Whether retiring or changing jobs, you’ll want to know your retirement account options.
There are four potential options for your 401(k) when leaving an employer:
• Leave it in your former employer’s 401(k) plan, if allowed by the plan.
• Move it to your new employer’s 401(k) plan, if you’ve changed employers and your new employer plan allows for it.
• Roll the account over to an individual retirement account (IRA).
• Cash it out, which is subject to potential tax consequences.
We can talk through your financial goals and find the option that works best for you.

SERVICE CLUBS
MAKE A DIFFERENCE
IN THEIR LOCAL AND SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES
Service clubs strengthen communities by bringing people together to address local needs. Clubs provide volunteers, funding and leadership for projects that improve quality of life.
Two active service clubs in Northern Kane County are The Rotary Club of Carpentersville and Dundee Township Lions Club. The Rotary Club of Carpentersville supports a variety of causes, such as Operation Warm to provide winter coats to children in need, youth dinners for homeless children, Easter dinner baskets for families in need, educational scholarships, the D300 Food Pantry and more. The Dundee Township Lions Club places special emphasis
on Sight and Sound projects, but the club has donated time, labor and funds to hundreds of community projects in its 80-plus year history, including installation of facilities and equipment at local parks and donations to charitable organizations. The Lions Club sponsors and hosts multiple events throughout the year as well as partnering with schools, nonprofits and other organizations.
Service clubs create opportunities for personal growth, skill-building and meaningful social connections. By promoting civic responsibility and collaboration, these organizations help build more resilient and compassionate communities. For a more complete list of local service clubs and other nonprofits, turn to page 56.
We are a club of Volunteers that donate our time and resources to making a positive impact for good - in our community and around the world.
For a truly rewarding experience, please join us as a guest for breakfast at our next regular meeting.

I have partnered with Lee as a client and Realtor, and he is my preferred lender. As a Realtor, I can count on Lee to be a reliable lender that educates clients on their financing options and the loan process. Lee cares about the client, not just the transaction.
