4-H Fair Results

2025 La Salle County,

Bureau County & Marshall-Putnam

Counties 4-H Fairs

Letter from Extension County Director

After spending ten years as a 4-H member in my youth, this was my first year as a 4-H mom. It’s a busy role, so a special shout out to all the 4-H parents and guardians who made sure your kids made it to the meetings, helped with fundraisers, navigated zsuites and fair entry, and made sure all those projects make it to the shows in great condition. Also, thanks to the extension program coordinators who showed all the parents and guardians so much patience when we had questions about projects and registration. I know I had lots of questions about the process.

I hope you were able to spend some time at least one show to see the hard work of the 4-H members, the volunteers and staff. While the shows are the culmination of the 4-H year, 4-H is year-round. There are many Special Interest (SPIN) clubs, afterschool programs, and standalone programming that goes on throughout the year. 4-H also works with our Master Gardener/Master Naturalist and SNAP-Ed programming. The cross programming allows us to reach more people and provide awareness of the variety of programming Extension can provide.

If you have enjoyed visiting the shows this summer, please encourage a young person to join a local 4-H club. Participation can begin as early as 5 years old as a Cloverbud or a community club member at 8 years old. Contact your local extension office if you are unsure of the clubs available in your area. Enrollment is open throughout the year, so any time is a good time to join 4-H!

You may also consider a donation to your local extension office. We appreciate our local donors who make our programs a reality. We use donations for program supplies, 4-H trophies, SPecial INterest (SPIN) programs, STEM

activities, after school programs, and so much more for our youth. 4-H does not just happen at the fair. Our staff are involved in their counties all year! Local donations are also matched by the state, so your dollar goes farther!

We could not have the 4-H fair without the help of many, many volunteers. We have hundreds of volunteers donating their time, interests, and talents to 4-H each year. We thank all the 4-H families, 4-H Community Club leaders, SPIN Club leaders, 4-H Project Superintendents, 4-H Fair judges, Home and Community Education Association members, fair boards, and everyone else who works with us to support our local youth throughout the year. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us.

Thank you to everyone who made the 2025 4-H Fairs a success! A special thank you to all the Extension staff who work very hard to make the fairs look effortless. So much goes on before and after the fair to provide the youth with the best week possible. I’m very proud of the work they do all year, but especially during the summer months.

In kindness, Erin Orwig University of Illinois Extension Extension County Director

2025 Marshall-Putnam County State Fair Delegates and Alternates Announced

The 2025 Marshall-Putnam County 4-H Fair concluded with great success, offering 4-H members the opportunity to showcase their talents and dedication across more than two hundred project areas. Youth from throughout the county gathered at the fairgrounds to exhibit their hard work, with many aiming for the honor of advancing to the Illinois State Fair, scheduled for August 9, 2025.

This annual event is a highlight of the 4-H year, representing the culmination of months of effort and growth for the participants. From agriculture and animal science to visual arts, photography, food science, and more, the range of projects reflected the wide variety of interests and skills developed by local 4-H youth.

The fair would not be possible without the tremendous support of volunteers who gave their time, expertise, and encouragement. Their behind-the-scenes work ensures that the event runs smoothly, and that each member has a meaningful and rewarding experience.

Congratulations to all the 4-H members who participated in the 2025 Marshall-Putnam County 4-H Fair. The following members have been selected as State Fair Delegates and Alternates:

2025 La Salle Country State Fair Delegates and Alternates

The LaSalle County 4-H Show and Junior Fair was held July 10-13. The county 4-H exhibition show is an exciting time for 4-H members. It is an opportunity to display to the public the hard work, time and skills they have put into their exhibits. It is also an opportunity for young people to show animals they have been tasked with the responsibility of purchasing or raising and caring for, to be shown at the livestock shows.

4-H exhibition shows are important because they celebrate 4-H members’ achievements, talents and provide opportunities for youth to develop life skills, responsibility and decision making in addition to making memories.

An important aspect of the fair is judging. 4-H projects are judged on their quality of workmanship. Although competition is an important part of the fair, the real benefit for 4-H members lies in competing to better their own skills. It’s exciting for 4-H members to win ribbons and trophies, with goals to advance to the state fair exhibition show.

The success of a great 4-H show is dependent upon the culmination of an endless amount of volunteers. We are grateful to our superintendents, judges, club leaders, families and the many other volunteers who help in putting together such a fabulous 4-H exhibition show.

Congratulations to all our exhibitors who have shown in the 4-H show. We are proud of your accomplishments and commitment to learning.
