Season 3 of Anne Rice’s “Interview with the Vampire” premieres Sunday, June 7, as “The Vampire Lestat” on AMC and AMC+. Sam Reid (“The Astronaut Wives Club”) returns as Lestat de Lioncourt, now a cult-of-personality rock star, who is on tour with his band. Revered by vampires and humans alike, Lestat performs on stage as well as for the camera held by journalist-turned-director Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian, “Uncut Gems,” 2019).

Time is arguably one of the biggest constraints in human life. Given that the average human lifespan is estimated at 73.8 years worldwide in 2026 (per Worldometers.info), there’s little denying that the amount one could conceivably conquer in a lifetime is finite. But if one could, say, live forever, imagine all the many skills that could be reasonably acquired; all that could be crossed off a never-ending bucket list.
The persistence of time — and supernatural abilities that allow a precious few to live beyond its boundaries — is at the center of Anne Rice’s steamy literary universe, which includes “The Vampire Chronicles,” “Lives of the Mayfair Witches” and “Servant of the Bones,” to name a few. Thankfully for her fans (and those who just love a great TV show), “Interview with the Vampire” was picked up by AMC and developed into a series of the same name in 2020.
“Interview with the Vampire,” the first series in Rice’s Immortal Universe on AMC, released in late October 2022 and saw a second season a little more than 18 months later, in May 2024. The series returns this spring for a third season, this time under the title “The Vampire Lestat,” a direct reference to the second book in Rice’s Vampire Chronicles series.

Despite being the third season in the “Interview with the Vampire” series, “The Vampire Lestat,” as is evidenced by its name change, is an entirely new story. While there exists an evolution of the series’ characters and plot elements, viewers should not expect a direct continuation of “Interview with the Vampire” in the traditional sense. Instead, the series primarily follows Lestat, played by “The Astronaut Wives Club” actor Sam Reid, as he branches out to explore a vocation in the arts. Now an influential rock star, Lestat brings the ghosts of his past on tour with him.
“The Vampire Lestat goes on tour while being haunted by ‘muses’ from his past,” reads the official AMC logline for the series’ newest season. “As the band’s popularity grows, so does Lestat’s influence over vampires and humans alike, leaving others to contend with Lestat’s power in the face of the Great Conversion.”
And the hype for the Vampire Lestat, as a character and as a musical act, seems to be gaining traction in our world as well. AMC’s Immortal Universe page on Instagram has been completely transformed into an edgy, 1990s-coded promo site, complete with concert posters, virtual magazine covers and documentary-style footage of the band and crew, presumably all filmed by Daniel Molloy, who is portrayed by returning cast member Eric Bogosian (“Uncut Gems,” 2019).
Bogosian appeared in both seasons of “Interview with the Vampire,” not as a creature of the night but as the initiator of the titular interview. A journalist by trade, Molloy’s familiarity with various forms of media communication makes him the perfect person to capture every delicious moment of Lestat’s enthralling presence, both on and off the stage. And given that he now has experience chronicling the undead lives of vampires in America, why not turn his attention from Louis (Jacob Anderson, “Game of Thrones”) to his sire and take the show on the road?
Louis de Pointe du Lac also returns for the series’ third season. Still portrayed by Anderson, Louis is taking on the role of supporting character as Lestat gets his time to shine (idiomatically speaking, of course — Rice’s vampires don’t glitter the way they do in the Twilight series).
Also supporting Lestat’s story are Delainey Hayles (“Holby City”) as Louis and Lestat’s forever-young offspring Claudia; Assad Zaman (“Hotel Portofino”) as the vampire Armand, who may get his own series at some point, provided the series
continues to follow the path of the novels; Joseph Potter (“My Policeman,” 2022) as Nicolas de Lenfent, a French vampire and ill-fated lover of Lestat’s; Jennifer Ehle (“Pride and Prejudice”) as Lestat’s mother, Gabriella, who was turned by Lestat himself; Ben Daniels (“The Exorcist”) as Santiago, lead actor for Paris’s Theatre des Vampires; and Roxane Duran (“Marie Antoinette”) as dollmaker-turned-vampire Madeleine, sired expressly to serve as a companion for Claudia. Promotional materials for the series are extravagant and rather unique. In addition to the usual trailers, posters and interviews, AMC shared the entire opening sequence to the show via Instagram on March 13. Featuring the glamrock song “Long Face” by the Vampire Lestat (performed by Reid), one of several songs written for the series, the intro shows several gritty and distorted close-ups of Lestat’s face, placing particular focus on his mesmerizing light blue eyes. Interrupted by interstitials of highway driving, guitar riffs, grimy tour bus interiors and elaborate gothic dining tables dressed with bones and can-
delabras, it is immediately clear that Lestat’s onstage persona leans very heavily into his identity as a real-life vampire.
In early April, AMC even announced a “Backstage Pass,” which “invit[ed] partners to hit the road with rock star Lestat for a Season 3 promotional tour including a variety of stops” with Reid “headlining as the most immortal rock star the world has ever seen.”
Needless to say, it looks like everyone is hungry for more Lestat.

Every April 22, we celebrate our wonderful planet by recognizing Earth Day, but unlike calendar holidays such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Labor Day, Earth’s hard work is not all accomplished in one singular 24-hour period.
Regardless of one’s personal and religious beliefs about the creation of our world, science has shown that since life has been on Earth, several tectonic shifts and extinction-level events have shaped and reshaped our planet’s landscape, flora and fauna. The creatures that survive often evolve into a new iteration of their old selves, learning to adapt to changes in their environment and keep on trucking (so to speak).
This sentiment is at the very heart of NBC’s newest docuseries, “Surviving Earth.” Premiering Thursday, June 11, on NBC and its affiliated streaming service Peacock, new episodes release weekly over a period of eight weeks and tell Earth’s story as it has never before been seen.
“Surviving Earth” comes from Universal Television Alternative Studios and Loud Minds, the latter of which is overseen by creative director Tim Haines, who rose to acclaim following the six-part BBC documentary series “Walking with Dinosaurs” in 1999. Haines and Loud Minds are also behind the multi-city immersive attraction Dinosaurs in the Wild, which allowed exhibitiongoers to travel some 67 million years back in time to explore Earth in the Cretaceous Period.
Despite the attraction going above and beyond to show everything from “prehistoric animals in cages” to “an autopsy on a giant dinosaur” (per NatGeoKids.com), its doors were shuttered in 2018, per its planned tour schedule, which ended in London, England.
Less than a decade later, Haines brings his dino-sized world back to the small screen for ongoing learners to experience the majesty and wonder of our world at work. Spanning eight hourlong episodes, “Surviving Earth” offers an inside look at the final days of some of the planet’s more bizarre and beautiful prehistoric creatures.
Beginning with the Permian-Triassic Mass Extinction event, also known as PTME or the Great Dying, Haines and the creative team behind “Surviving Earth” illustrate the circumstances behind Earth’s greatest known biotic crisis. According to the Pictures Impossible/Loud Minds Instagram page (@picturesimpossible), the premiere episode portrays the “struggles of a gorgon (Inostrancevia) pack to survive in an overheating world” — something which sadly sounds all too familiar amid our current climate crisis.
“This episode also features Scutosaurus, Suminia and Elph,” the description continues. “After the event, we jump 10 million years forward to discover a reptile rebirth featuring Cyamodus,
Pliosaurs, as depicted in “Surviving Earth”
Dongosuchus, Cymbospondylus and Protopterosaurs.”
In the second episode of the series, airing the following week on NBC and streaming, we travel forward approximately 25 million years to the Carnian Pluvial Episode (or CPE), wherein “we experience the beginnings of climate instability which leads to the rise of dinosaurs.”
“It stars a hatchling Ischigualastia growing up in a drought,” reads the @picturesimpossible description for Episode 2. “She meets Panphagia, Saurosuchus and Rhynchosaurs. We then jump forward eight million years to when the climate is drier and more stable and dinosaurs dominate. These include Lessemsaurus, Zupaysaurus and the early mammal Chalminia.”
Each of the series’ eight episodes is designed to be a stand-alone experience, meaning that the events portrayed are not necessarily presented in chronological order. As the series progresses, viewers will also witness “a mated pair of Nanuqsaurus,” “a mother Pliosaur and a mother Spinosaurus struggle to raise their young as the oceans stagnate,” a female Diplodocus who is trapped in a “struggle to survive as the climate dries” and a “stunning reef full of Crinoids and Carolinites,” wherein “a male Sacabambaspis tries to build a nest to attract a mate.”
Digital effects for “Surviving Earth” are provided by Loud Minds and Milk VFX, a British visual effects studio based in London. In addition to the company’s feature film VFX history, which includes work on “47 Ronin” (2013), “The Martian” (2015), “Annihilation” (2018) and “Meg 2: The Trench” (2023), Milk VFX has a history of paleo-documentary excellence on television.
Beginning in 2013 with the BBC Studios and Discovery Channel co-production “Ice Age Giants,” Milk VFX has accomplished work on more than 30 TV projects over the past 13 years, including “Doctor Who,” “Sherlock,” “The Alienist,” “Good Omens,” “Dracula,” “Citadel” and Sir David Attenborough’s 3D television adventure titled “David Attenborough’s Natural History Museum Alive,” which, like “Ice Age Giants,” aired in the company’s founding year.

“The biggest, boldest home cook competition in the network’s history” (per Food Network) begins Sunday, June 7, on Food Network when the brand-new series “100 Cooks” makes its epic debut.
Hosted by “Brooklyn NineNine” actor Terry Crews, this one-of-a-kind competition brings 100 of the country’s best hobby and home cooks together for a seven-week culinary gauntlet that will see 99% of its competitors eliminated. When the numbers are narrowed from 100 to one, the single chef left standing will be named America’s best home cook — earning themselves a life-changing $250,000 prize.
“In each episode, competitors are selected at random by a lottery ball ‘Cook Mixer’ to come to the floor after the ‘Challenge Mixer’ dictates what food-themed battle they will face,” reads the series’ description.
“Each round is judged by top culinary content creator Nick DiGiovanni and Food Network all-star Alex Guarnaschelli [’Ciao House’], who will determine who stays in the competition each week and who is sent home.”
According to Food Network, the series premiere will see Crews welcoming a wide array of unique competitors, “from firefighters and college students to corporate lawyers and stay-athome moms and dads.”

Q: I was watching an old episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” and saw Denzel Washington in the credits. I watched it three times but couldn’t spot him. Did he have a bit role that I just couldn’t see?
A: The reason you didn’t see Hollywood legend Denzel Washington (“Training Day,” 2001) in that episode of “Grey’s Anatomy” was because he was never on camera. After all, he’s not the kind of guy you miss.
Washington actually directed the Season 12 episode “The Sound of Silence.” And it was a rare moment in his career.
Throughout his near-50 years in the film biz, Washington has only directed five projects — and this was his only foray into television so far. Reportedly, he only took the job because his wife was a huge fan of the show.
That’s according to “Grey’s” star Ellen Pompeo (“Moonlight Mile,” 2002) in an episode of her podcast “Tell Me With Ellen Pompeo.”
But that’s not to say he was slumming it. “Grey’s” is one of the most successful and beloved shows in history, having been on ABC for an incredible 23 seasons and counting.
And he’s not the only big-name actor to direct the show. Phylicia Rashad (“The Cosby Show”), Eric Stoltz (“Pulp Fiction,” 1994) and David Paymer (“Mr. Saturday Night,” 1992) have all helmed episodes over the years.
Q: Is Mike Colter going to come back as Luke Cage in the new “Daredevil” show?
A: Much as fans might want to see it, a full Luke Cage revival doesn’t seem to be in the cards for Mike Colter (“The Good Wife”) — partly because he just got very busy with a brand-new show.
For those not up to date with the sprawling Marvel cinematic and televisual universe, Colter played the title role in the Netflix series “Luke Cage” — a New York-based superhero with super strength and unbreakable skin. It was part of a series of Netflix shows centered around the better-known superhero Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox, of 2014’s “The Theory of Everything”).
Those shows were all canceled, but Disney+ revived Daredevil in a new series, “Born Again.” Colter came back as Cage for a single episode of that show earlier this year.
That now seems to have been a one-off, or at least something that will only happen occasionally.
Colter would have to work hard to squeeze more into his schedule, which is now full of a new show: CBS’s “Cupertino.”
Colter will star in the legal drama about a crusading lawyer representing regular folks against the corporate giants of Silicon Valley. It will form part of CBS’s new fall schedule this year.
This show, too, is a reprisal of sorts for Colter, who first came to fame in another CBS legal drama, “The Good Wife.” He played drug lord/legitimate businessman Lemond Bishop on and off through the show’s first six seasons, and again a few times in its spinoff, “The Good Fight.”
Q: Where’s Clive Owen been? Any chance of more “Monsieur Spade”?
A: You’re right that Clive Owen (“The International,” 2009) has been a little low-profile lately, but unfortunately for fans, it’s not because he’s working on another season of the old-timey AMC detective drama “Monsieur Spade.”
Instead, Owen has four other things in some stage of production.
Most likely the first we’ll be seeing is the superhigh-profile true crime miniseries “Unspeakable: The Murder of JonBenet Ramsey,” in which he stars as the victim’s father, John. That’s been in post-production for a while now, but is expected to finally be released sometime this summer on Paramount+.
He’s also finished filming the big-screen historical thriller “Kristallnacht,” which also doesn’t yet have a release date but should probably hit the streets soon.
Meanwhile, he’s about to start work on two more films: the crime-drama “Scorpion” and horror film “Blasphemous.” Both are in pre-production, with no word yet on possible release dates. All this seems to truly spell the end for “Monsieur Spade.” The AMC show, which served as a sequel to the classic novel “The Maltese Falcon” (and its more famous 1941 film adaptation), had been billed as a limited series, but as is often the case, there was still hope it would get renewed all the same.
On the upside, its development as a limited series means that viewers got a relatively complete story at the end. Though one could say the same thing about “The Maltese Falcon” — and yet we were still happy to get more.
No one’s likely more disappointed about all this than Owen himself, who remains a huge fan of the source material. “I’ve actually got an original ‘Maltese Falcon’ [poster] on my wall at home,” he said in an interview on NPR. “So when [series creators] Scott Frank [‘Logan,’ 2017] and Tom Fontana [’St. Elsewhere’] called me up and pitched me the whole idea, I’d turn around and took a picture of the poster and said, ‘You’ve come to the right guy.’”
