“Running Point” returns Thursday, April 23, for a second season on Netflix. Created by Ike Barinholtz (“The Studio”), Mindy Kaling (“The Office”) and “Only Murders in the Building” producer Elaine Ko, the comedy series’ second season follows Isla’s (Kate Hudson, “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” 2003) determination to stay at the top of the industry food chain as her brother (Justin Theroux, “The Mosquito Coast”) tries to resume control of the LA Waves upon his return from rehab. Kate Hudson and Brenda Song in “Running Point”
By Dana Simpson TV Media
In October 2019, the NBA.com news site ran a piece titled “Women impacting NBA now more than ever.” The article, written by Associated Press journalist Kyle Hightower, shines a spotlight on the “recent trend” of seeing more women who are “directly impacting every aspect of the game — from broadcasting booths, to officiating, coaching on the sidelines, front-office executives to ownership.”
In the article, basketball hall-of-famer and former NBA/WNBA coach Nancy Lieberman makes a point of noting that women in professional basketball is “not a fad” or a fluke, rather “it’s opportunities going to very accomplished women who have given their life to the game.”
The Netflix series “Running Point” amplifies this desire that many women have for success in the sports industry while also signaling the sexist and assumptions-based hurdles she must jump on her way to the top. Created by “The Studio” actor and “Celebrity Jeopardy!” champion Ike Barinholtz, six-time Emmy nominee Mindy Kaling (“The Office”) and “Only Murders in the Building” producer Elaine Ko, the comedy series led by Kate Hudson (“How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days,” 2003) returns Thursday, April 23, for a second season on Netflix.
As a televised tale about the unlikely success of a newcomer leading a sports team or franchise, “Running Point” has a debt to pay to the success of the Apple TV series “Ted Lasso.” The story of an American football coach, played by Jason Sudeikis (“We’re the Millers,” 2013), who is hired to run an English football (aka soccer) team in the U.K., “Ted Lasso” paved the way for “Running Point” in much the same way that the NBA paved the way for the WNBA (although it took Netflix only five years — not 50 — to introduce a sports comedy with a female counterpart to the kooky mustachioed coach).
“Running Point,” as a series, follows Isla Gordon (Hudson), who, “overlooked her whole life, is appointed [p]resident of the LA Waves basketball team, a family business, when her brother enters rehab. She aims to prove she is the right choice despite skepticism.”
And while the woman-must-prove-herself narrative is a dime a dozen in film and television (even the highly lauded HBO series “Succession” had an ongoing arc about the rise and fall of the Roy family’s only female heir, Shiv, played by “All Her Fault’s” Sarah Snook), the women of “Running Point” are empowering in that they are not asking to be included; they are taking space, whether the men around them like it or not.
Unfortunately, in Season 2, it appears that one man in particular, Isla’s newly rehabilitated brother Cam (Justin Theroux, “The Mosquito
Expanding the roster Romano joins Season 2 ‘Running
Point’
Coast”), is doing everything he can to interrupt his sister’s unexpected success.
“Isla Gordon is no longer the surprise choice to lead the Los Angeles Waves, she’s the one everyone is watching,” reads the series’ official synopsis. “With the franchise finally rebounding after last year’s scandal, Isla is determined to prove she’s not just keeping the seat warm for her brother Cam. What she doesn’t know is that Cam is quietly maneuvering behind the scenes to reclaim his post, turning every misstep into ammunition. As she tries to balance the pressure of running a franchise with devoting time to her personal life, every decision on and off the court counts.”
The feminist bend to the series is no surprise, given the involvement of co-creator Kaling, who has positioned herself as a feminist throughout her career, particularly with regard to “The Mindy Project,” which she deemed an “unconsciously feminist” series. This does not mean all the women in “Running Point” are perfect, of course. Instead, the show is simply focused on creating a world where the same access to opportunities is
provided to all genders — both on-screen and behind the scenes.
“I’m incredibly grateful for [Mindy],” series costar Brenda Song (“The Social Network,” 2010) shared in a March 2025 episode of TheWrap. com’s podcast, “UnWrapped.” “She really goes out of her way to create opportunities for women like me, women like you — women whose stories need to be told. She wants those stories to be out in the world.”
Song returns to “Running Point” Season 2 as LA Waves chief of staff Ali Lee, who also happens to be Isla’s best friend. Also returning from the main cast are Drew Tarver (“The Other Two”) as Isla’s younger half-brother and Waves CFO Sandy Gordon; Scott MacArthur (“The Righteous Gemstones”) as Ness Gordon, Waves GM and Isla’s older brother; Fabrizio Guido (“Mr. Iglesias”) as Jackie Moreno, the Gordons’ newest half-brother; Chet Hanks (“Your Honor”) as Waves point guard Travis Bugg; and Toby Sandeman (“The Game”) as Waves star player Marcus Winfield. Uche Agada (“Rise,” 2022), who plays Waves rookie Dyson Gibbs, returns as a main
character in Season 2, while comedic actor Ray Romano (“Everybody Loves Raymond”) joins the show’s recurring cast as Coach Norm. Other new recurring characters include Ken Marino (“The State”), Tommy Dewey (“Casual”), Jake Picking (“Hollywood”), Richa Moorjani (“Never Have I Ever”), Blake Anderson (“Workaholics”), Duby Maduegbunam (“Caught Up”) and Aliyah Turner (“Power Book III: Raising Kanan”). Max Greenfield (“New Girl”), Jon Glaser (“Inside Amy Schumer”) and Scott Evans (“Barbie,” 2023) also return for the sophomore season.
Don’t miss your shot to see a brand-new season from the jump. “Running Point” Season 2 premieres Thursday, April 23, on Netflix.

Time-traveling family reunites one last time in ‘The Way Home’
By Sarah Passingham TV Media
Wishing to turn back time is a dream for many. Revisiting events of your own past or experiencing family history from your own perspective is the stuff of fantasy. For one family, the ability to step back into the past is a reality. The beloved time-traveling Hallmark family drama “The Way Home” returns to the network for its fourth and final season premiere Sunday, April 19. Stream episodes the next day on Hallmark+.
Set in the fictional Canadian farm town of Port Haven, New Brunswick, “The Way Home” follows three generations of a once-estranged family brought together again by circumstance and bonded through the discovery of magical abilities. The Landry women each have their own stories of unfinished business that only a dip in an enchanted pond with a portal to the past can resolve.
Kat (Chyler Leigh, “Grey’s Anatomy”) had the rug pulled out from under her, finding herself facing divorce and unemployment when the series began. After spending more than two decades without any contact with her mother, Del (Andie MacDowell, “Maid”), Kat took her daughter, Alice (Sadie Laflamme-Snow, “Slasher”), to meet her grandmother for the first time and settle into a new life back in the place where she started.
Uprooted from her life, expelled from her school and processing the news of her parents’ split, Alice stumbled across the forest magic that propels the rest of the series. A jump into a special pond nearby her grandmother’s farm sent Alice back to 1999, where she befriended her mother’s teenage self (Alex Hook, “I Am Frankie”). Her trips back in time — secret at first but quickly discovered by Kat — help her family heal the broken bonds from years of estrangement and even lead to some supernatural mending.
Over the first three seasons of the time-hopping series, the three Landry women developed a deeper understanding of each other, a long-lost family member returned to the present and Kat ignited a spark between herself and one of her childhood best friends. Elliot (Evan Williams, “Versailles”), who grew up next door to the Landry family, remained a family friend while Kat lived her life far from Port Haven. A physics teacher at the local high school, Elliot is the only one outside of the family who knows the secret of the pond.
However, he may not be outside the family for much longer. In last season’s finale, Kat and Elliot had a conversation about the future. The couple decided they would just love each other as they are for the time being, until Elliot had fine-tuned the perfect proposal.
This season on “The Way Home,” per Hallmark, “Alice is about to graduate high school, Kat and Elliot dream of the next steps for their relationship while Del realizes she will soon be an empty-nester again.”
The series was co-created by mother-daughter team Heather Conkie (“Road to Avonlea”) and Alexandra Clarke (“MsLabelled”) with producer Marly Reed (“V.C. Andrews’ Heaven”). Executive producers Conkie and Clarke, who both worked on the long-running Canadian family drama “Heartland” — Conkie as showrunner and Clarke as a writer — spoke to People about what’s coming next for fans of “The Way Home.”
The upcoming season “is all about new beginnings and uncertain futures,” the co-creators explained. Conkie and Clarke added, “on the cusp of Alice’s high school graduation, our three strong-willed Landry ladies face more independent next chapters.” Viewers can also expect to see another new time jump. The pond has already taken members of the Landry family to integral points in its history from the 1990s, 1970s and the 1800s.
This time, the time-hoppers are welcomed by the Roaring Twenties. In the official first look of the upcoming season, Kat takes a dip in the pond and breaks through to the 1920s to meet a member of the Landry family who “is waiting to propel our characters into harrowing new adventures in their quest to seek answers to mysteries still unsolved,” according to Conkie and Clarke.
Coloring in family stories with trips to the past have deepened the Landry women’s relationships with each other, but going back in time has also brought the family closer together in a literal sense. In the second season, Kat visited the 1800s to bring back her brother, Jacob (Spencer Macpherson, “School Spirits”), who had been missing and presumed dead in the present day for over 20 years.
It was his disappearance, coupled with the death of her father, that sent Kat out on her own, away from Del and Port Haven all those years ago. Jacob has returned to his present-day family, easing some of Del’s heartbreak, but the trailer suggests he needs his own space again. Just when everyone had finally made their way back home, it might be time for everyone to set out again. “You need to let me go,” Jacob tells Del in the trailer, standing next to a bus that looks like it’s heading out of town.

Join award-winning actress, producer and activist Eva Longoria (“Desperate Housewives”) as she embarks on an epic culinary journey through France in “Eva Longoria: Searching for France,” airing Sunday, April 19, on CNN.
“A devoted Francophile whose career has taken her to France countless times, Longoria now goes deeper, savoring the traditions, innovations and regional flavors that have defined French cuisine for centuries,” the network’s description reads. “Along the way she uncovers the history that shaped it, from royal courts and monastic vineyards to the regional communities that turned local ingredients into enduring culinary traditions.”
Following Longoria’s series set in Mexico and Spain, this latest endeavor aims to highlight France’s culinary history, regional specialties and fine dining traditions. According to CNN, Longoria will try flavorsome bouillabaisse in Provence, fluffy frog legs mousseline in Alsace, braised boeuf bourguignon in Burgundy, buttery blue lobster in Brittany, beefy Bordelaise sauce in Bordeaux and more.
During a two-episode extravaganza in Paris, Longoria samples fresh oysters, indulges in a decadent meal beside the River Seine and even samples creations by star chefs like Nina Metayer, Cedric Grolet and Mickael Reydellet of La Parisienne.
“France has defined how the world approaches fine dining, and its commitment to craft, paired with a relentless
spirit of innovation, has kept its cuisine at the forefront of modern gastronomy,” Longoria claims. “With ‘Searching for France,’ we had the chance to spend real time with the chefs, artisans and families that both safeguard and evolve that extraordinary legacy. We’re proud to continue our partnership with CNN to explore France’s culinary heritage at the scale it commands, and to bring audiences inside the history and vision shaping how the world understands taste.”

She runs, she hides but he is never too far behind. While there, Sasha finds herself deep in the wilderness trapped in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a cunning serial killer (Taron Egerton, “Rocketman,” 2019) who sees her as prey and will stop at nothing to hunt her down. Written by Jeremy Robbins (“The Purge”), with executive producers Theron, Peter Chernin (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” 2011) and Jenno Topping (“Hidden Figures,” 2016), “Apex” also stars Eric Bana (“The Time Traveler’s Wife,” 2009), Caitlin Stasey (“I, Frankenstein,” 2014), Bessie Holland (“Wakefield”) and Zac Garred (“Bring Him to Me,” 2023).
“Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85” - Season 1 Just when life in Hawkins seems to return to normal, a new nightmare stirs when Season 1 of “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” premieres Thursday, April 23, on Netflix. This animated “Stranger Things” spinoff returns to Hawkins, Indiana, in the winter of 1985 as snow blankets the town and the horrors of the Upside Down are finally fading. Town heroes Eleven (Brooklyn Davey Norstedt, “WeCrashed”), Mike (Luca Diaz, “Erin & Aaron”), Will (Benjamin Plessala, “Wylde Pak”), Dustin (Braxton Quinney, “You Can’t Take My Daughter,” 2020), Lucas (Elisha “EJ” Williams, “The Wonder Years”) and Max (Jolie Hoang-Rappaport, “Watchmen”) have settled back into a normal life of Dungeons and Dragons, snowball fights and quiet days. But beneath the ice, something terrifying has awakened. Now, this misfit group of teens must race to uncover the darkness beneath the town’s surface before their world turns upside down once more. Created by Eric Robles
(“The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy”), “Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85” is written and executive produced by Matt and Ross Duffer (“Stranger Things”).
WHAT’S NEW ON MGM+
“From” - Season 4
As the town’s darkest secrets begin to surface, uncovering them comes with a deadly price. From creator John Griffin (“Crater,” 2023) and showrunner Jeff Pinkner (“Lost”), “From” returns Sunday, April 19, with Season 4 on MGM+. Directed by Jack Bender (“Game of Thrones”), the new season continues to follow the residents of a nightmarish town that traps all those who enter. Last season took a darker turn with the arrival of the Man in Yellow (Douglas E. Hughes, “The Fight Machine,” 2022), who brought new horrors, including Jim’s (Eion Bailey, “Once Upon a Time”) death, while Julie (Hannah Cheramy, “The Hollow Child,” 2017) struggled to change her father’s fate through her newfound ability to time travel. Season 4 follows the residents as their search for answers unlocks even darker, more dangerous secrets that threaten to make their nightmare even worse. Returning this season are Catalina Sandino Moreno (“Ballerina,” 2025) as Tabitha, Simon Webster (“Strays”) as Ethan, Harold Perrineau (“Oz”) as Boyd and Elizabeth Saunders
(“It,” 2017) as Donna. Julia Doyle (“Astrid & Lilly Save the World”) also joins the cast as Sophia, who is described by Deadline as “a sheltered and vulnerable pastor’s daughter.”

WHAT’S NEW ON APPLE TV
“Criminal Record” - Season 2
After creator Paul Rutman’s (“Indian Summers”) riveting Apple TV crime thriller brought an intense
investigation to a shocking conclusion in last season’s finale, “Criminal Record” returns with a mind-bending second season Wednesday, April 22. Season 2 follows Det. June Lenker (Cush Jumbo, “The Good Fight”) and Det. Daniel Hegarty (Peter Capaldi, “World War Z,” 2013) as they reunite after a young man is stabbed at a political rally. What begins as a hunt for the killer soon turns into a far more dangerous mission, pulling Lenker and Hegarty into an undercover operation to stop a far-right bomb plot right in the heart of London, England. Shaun Dooley (“Eden Lake,” 2008), Stephen Campbell Moore (“Season of the Witch,” 2011) and Charlie Creed-Miles (“King Arthur,” 2004) return, with Joelle Mae David (“Borders”) directing the season.
WHAT’S NEW ON HBO MAX “Half Man”
Two men shaped by the same past reunite when “Half Man” premieres Thursday, April 23, on HBO Max. In this six-episode miniseries from Emmy-winning creator Richard Gadd (“Baby Reindeer”), Ruben (played by Gadd) suddenly reappears at his old friend Niall’s (Jamie Bell, “Jumper,” 2008) wedding after three decades apart. Only he’s not the same man Niall remembers — “he is on edge, shifty [and] not acting like himself” (per Deadline). But when a shocking act of violence erupts, the story takes us back in time, from the 1980s to present day, to reveal how two best friends who were once inseparable could grow up to lead such different lives. Mitchell Robertson (“Curfew”) and Stuart Campbell (“The Winter King”) play Niall and Ruben in their younger years, while Neve McIntosh (“Doctor Who”), Marianne McIvor (“Screw”) and Charlie De Melo (“Coronation Street”) round out the cast. Alexandra Brodski (“Rivals”) and Eshref Reybrouck (“Undercover”) direct.

Q: Are any of the couples from the first season of “Love Is Blind” still together?
A: I appreciate that you narrowed your question down to the first season. Netflix’s hugely popular reality dating show, “Love Is Blind,” has aired for 10 seasons now and yielded dozens of couples — to varying amounts of success.
To borrow the language of the show, two couples from the first season are still proving that “love truly is blind,” six years after broadcast: Lauren and Cameron, and Amber and Barnett.
If you’re interested in keeping up with them, it might not surprise you to hear that they’re all active on social media. Amber and Barnett are regular Instagram posters (they announced the birth of their daughter there last April), and Lauren and Cameron have an ongoing YouTube series, “Hangin’ With the Hamiltons,” as well as a podcast called “The Love Seat.” (Guess who were the guests on the show’s first episode? Amber and Barnett. There’s no shortage of ways to keep up with these four.)
The show’s still producing couples to this day. Season 10 was just released a couple of months ago and there are already whispers about the 11th — which, based on the rhythm of the show so far, would release in the fall. Netflix actually keeps a running list of all the couples who are still together on its website, and the cynics out there might be surprised at
the success rate — nine couples are still together, according to the site.
Q: What ever happened to Jack McBrayer from “30 Rock”?
A: At the moment, your knowledge of where Jack McBrayer — who’s famous for playing Kenneth the Page in the neo-classic NBC sitcom “30 Rock” — is now depends largely on whether you get HGTV.
That’s where he finally found the high-profile TV gig he’s been searching for since “30 Rock” ended in 2013. He now hosts the cable channel’s popular, offbeat reality show “Zillow Gone Wild,” a real-estate show that focuses on “America’s wackiest and wildest homes.”
It was uncommonly buzzy for the real-estate TV genre when it debuted in 2024, due to the fact that it was based on a virally popular Instagram account. Giving it a full TV show allows producers to offer depth and detail that social media can’t provide.
And it allows them to offer McBrayer, himself a relatively wacky and offbeat screen presence. A lot of shows have benefited from a bit of his comedic energy. As I said, he’s been looking for a full-time gig since “30 Rock” ended, and at the same time, guesting on a huge number of hit shows.
This has included turns on likely sitcoms such as “The Big Bang Theory,” “The Middle” and “The Conners,” but also surprising roles in dramatic fare such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and the revival of “The Wonder Years.”
Q: Is Christopher Meloni still doing “Law & Order: Organized Crime”? I haven’t seen it in a while.
A: “Law & Order: Organized Crime” is a bit like the troubled younger brother of the franchise. And, at the moment, we don’t know if it’s still in the family or not.
It started on NBC like the other “Law & Order” shows still on the air (the original “Law & Order” and its now-more-successful spinoff, “Special Victims Unit”), but it didn’t quite fit in there, so it was sent off to the Peacock streaming service for its most recent fifth season, debuting there in last spring. But then NBC
changed its mind and aired the season on the broadcast channel in the fall.
So, technically, it has been a while since it released a new episode — since June.
It did fairly well on broadcast — averaging about 2.5 million viewers per episode. Considering those were technically reruns (for Peacock subscribers, at least), that’s not bad at all. But we still don’t know if it was enough to get Christopher Meloni (“Wet Hot American Summer,” 2001) and his show a renewal.
In the meantime, Meloni has been moonlighting on a number of other projects.
He’s already wrapped filming on a pair of movies — ensemble comedy “Little Brother,” slated for release on Netflix later this year, and the indie drama “Chop Cheese,” written and directed by his daughter Sophia (no release date so far).
And he’s currently working on a pair of TV series: coming-of-age sitcom “I Suck at Girls,” set up at Netflix, and football-themed drama “The Land” for Hulu.
He can do all this side hustling because “Organized Crime’s” last two seasons were comparatively short — 13 and 10 episodes apiece, compared to the 22-episode seasons it was getting previously — leaving him with more time for other projects.
