Letter from the Editor Each year, the Women in Business issue features some of Kankakee County’s women leading the way in their fields and business ventures. Representing a wide variety of professions – from executives and board members to business owners and healthcare or education staff – this year’s group have all made an impact in their careers and in the community. Whether these women are the friendly face a child sees at school or the caring presence a patient or client experiences, each of these amazing women play a significant role in making Kankakee County a better place to live, work and grow. As much as we are lucky to have them, all seven said they feel the same way about their unique chances to give back and make a difference in their community. Opportunities, the sense of family, community and connection, feeling welcomed, a willingness to work together and support one another, the spirit of collaboration and its heart were a few of the answers to what these women love most about Kankakee County. Simply put, by honoree Tiffany Heneghan – it is home. “Kankakee County is more than just a place to live – it’s a community built on resilience, compassion, and a shared commitment to making it an even better place for future generations.” Join me in congratulating this year’s group, and thanking them for often giving much of themselves in an effort to make a positive impact on this place we call home.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love spending time with my family. I love attending and watching all of my kids’ sporting events, and I love to read!
Q: What led you down your current career path? I have always valued education and have wanted to be a part of the school community. Although I am not a teacher, I discovered that the administrative side of education plays a vital role in supporting students and staff. I take pride in creating a welcoming environment for students.
Q: What are your goals for the future? My goals for the future are simple. I want to continue to grow with our kids at the high school for many years to come, after my own children have graduated. I look forward to watching my own children grow families of their own someday!
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? My sisters and I, my husband, and my 3 children have either graduated or are currently students in Herscher School District. I have a lot of Herscher Pride instilled in me, and I want to ensure I instill it in not only my own children, but everyone at our school. I love being able to interact with students and athletes. I love being able to be there for our kids in whatever role they need.
Q: Are you involved in any organizations outside of work? I am the president of the Herscher Athletic Boosters for the past 6 years.
Q: What do you love most about Kankakee County? I love the sense of family and community in all of our small towns. I was born and raised in Bonfield and have lived in both Herscher and Reddick. In all of these communities, you can find wonderful people who also value loyalty and pride. These are the types of people I wish for my children to watch and learn from.

My career has always been rooted in serving others and creating opportunities for people to feel supported, included, and valued. I began my career as an elementary educator, where I learned the importance of building relationships and fostering environments where individuals could learn and grow. Those experiences led me to nonprofit leadership. As Director of Community Engagement at Clove Alliance, I focused on community outreach, education, and events that strengthened connections and expanded access to resources. When I learned about the opportunity to lead River Valley Special Rec, I was immediately drawn to its mission and the chance to combine my background in education, community engagement, and leadership. I love how recreation brings people together, fosters friendships, builds confidence, and creates a true sense of belonging. Today, I am grateful to work alongside an incredible team to provide meaningful experiences where participants feel welcomed, included, and valued. Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? The people. I love being able to see our participants try new things, have new experiences, and find joy through recreation. Whether it is watching someone light up during a program, make a new friend, discover a new interest, or simply feel included and welcomed, those moments remind me why our work is so important. I also truly enjoy supporting our incredible staff team, building partnerships throughout the community, and finding new ways to create meaningful opportunities for the individuals and families we serve. Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? With a busy schedule, I truly value the time I get to spend with my family. I love traveling, exploring

new places, and creating memories with my husband and children. We enjoy being outdoors, visiting parks, going on walks, and finding simple ways to enjoy time together. When I have the opportunity, I also enjoy taking yoga or Pilates classes, cooking, and connecting with friends and neighbors.
Q: Are you involved in any organizations outside of work? I recently rejoined the Zonta Club of Kankakee after being a member in the past. Returning to Zonta felt like a natural fit because I am passionate about supporting women and girls and helping create opportunities for them to thrive. I admire the organization’s commitment to service, advocacy, and education. I also value the opportunity to connect with other women leaders in our community while making a positive impact. Q: What are your goals for the future? My goal for the future is to continue leading River Valley Special Rec in a way that strengthens our organization and supports our mission. I want to continue building a strong
team culture where staff feel valued and supported. I also hope to continue building relationships throughout our community and increasing awareness of the important work River Valley Special Rec does so more people understand the value of inclusive recreation. Success, to me, is measured by the relationships we build and the impact we make. Q: What do you love most about Kankakee County? What I love most about Kankakee County is its heart. Having lived here my entire life, I have always appreciated the people who make this community special. Business/organization: Midland States Bank Job Title: Personal Banker Time with organization/in current position: 8 years Town of residence: Kankakee Q: What led you down your current career path? As a single mother, I was working at my local Casey’s while looking for opportunities that would provide greater stability and a meaningful career path. In 2019, I was given the opportunity to interview for a part-time teller position at Midland States Bank. Since then, I have continuously grown both personally and professionally, taking on a variety of roles within the organization. Each position has provided valuable learning experiences, expanded my skill set, and strengthened my passion for serving customers and contributing to the success of my team. Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? What I enjoy most about my job is helping people, building relationships, and sharing knowledge. Whether I’m assisting customers, mentoring others, or participating in community events, I value the opportunity to make a positive difference every day. Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and pets. I love reading, gardening, and being outdoors, and I’m a passionate Chicago Cubs fan. I also enjoy staying involved in my community and especially look forward to football season and all that comes with my favorite time of year – fall. Q: Are you involved in any organizations outside of work? I currently serve as a Kankakee County Chamber Ambassador and Chair of the WIN (Women in Networking) Committee, as well as an Ambassador for The Currents of Kankakee. I am a Board Member and volunteer for MCA Senior Adult Day Care, and I support both United Way and Women United initiatives. I’m also part of the Relay for Life committee and the Alzheimer’s Association committee both for Kankakee counties. Additionally, I serve as a CASA Advocate through Child Network, helping advocate for children in need. I am also a Dementia Champion and volunteer with Our Aging Services, supporting older adults and their families. I am involved with the Manteno Oktoberfest Committee, Bradley 315 Music Fest and Merchant Street MusicFest. I enjoy contributing to community events that bring people together. Q: What are your goals for the future? In the future, I would love to travel with my husband and take dream vacations to Greece and Ireland. One of my personal goals is to give my children the opportunity to experience other cultures by traveling outside of the country together as a family. I am also passionate about serving my community, especially supporting seniors. I hope to be involved in meaningful work or volunteer opportunities that allow me to make a positive impact in those areas.
My biggest dream is to purchase a ranch-style home on a large piece of land where I can create an animal sanctuary. Combining my love for animals, family, and helping others would be a truly fulfilling way to achieve my long-term goals. Q: What do you love most about Kankakee County? What I love most about Kankakee County is that it is home. It is a beautiful community rich in history, and I am proud of the growth and progress I continue to see throughout the county. One of the things I admire most is how our community comes together during difficult times. That strength was especially evident after the tornado on March 10, when so many people stepped up to help their neighbors. In the face of adversity, we supported one another and demonstrated what it truly means to be Kankakee County Strong. I’ve always been drawn to caring for others. Even as a child, I naturally gravitated toward helping people, and that continued through my first jobs working in a nursing home, where I learned that simply listening and being present could have a profound impact on someone’s life. I knew I wanted a career that allowed me to make a difference. My internship experiences in college confirmed that social work was the right fit because it combined advocacy, relationships, and helping people navigate difficult times. My leadership journey happened more organically. A supervisor saw leadership potential in me before I saw it in myself and encouraged me to step into new opportunities. As I took on leadership roles, I discovered that I loved building teams, creating positive workplace cultures, and developing programs that improve care for clients. Today, what motivates me most is helping others succeed – whether that’s a client making progress, a staff member growing in clinical skills, or program development/expansion. My career has always been rooted in the same values: empathy, relationships, and making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? I enjoy being challenged to identify opportunities for growth, expand access to behavioral health services, and think creatively about how we can better serve the individuals and families who rely on us. Seeing these ideas come to life and the positive impact in people’s lives we serve is one of the most rewarding parts of my role. Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? Outside of work, I love spending time with family and friends. My husband and I have two boys who keep us on our toes and busy! I enjoy traveling – especially if it involves a beach vacation, which is a must at least once a year. I enjoy hosting gatherings, spending time outdoors, trying new outdoor activities, and making the most of time spent with the people I care about. Q: Are you involved in any organizations outside of work? I am on the board for the Child Network, Kankakee Mental Health Round Table and Board member/Secretary with Drug Free Inc.

I hope to continue expanding behavioral health services within our community – whether that means developing new programs at Riverside or strengthening partnerships with community organizations. I am passionate about improving access to care and creating opportunities to better meet the evolving needs of those we serve. Knowing that my work positively impacts the health and well-being of the community where my family and friends live gives my work a deeper sense of purpose. Q: What do you love most about Kankakee County? One of the things I value most about our community is how close-knit it is. There is a genuine willingness to work together, build relationships, and support one another. I appreciate the collective commitment to increasing awareness of mental health and partnering to expand services that meet the growing needs of our community.

Nikki Moore Business/organization: Little Me Studio Job Title: Founder & CEO Time with organization/in current position: Opened in 2015 Town of residence: Bourbonnais Background: Bishop McNamara Catholic High School; Kankakee Community College Q: What led you down your current career path? My current career path began with a family road trip in 2014. During that 22-hour drive, my husband, Shannon, our four children (Brittany, Cassidy, Jace & Kellan), and I had plenty of time to talk. My job as a nurse and physician’s office manager was coming to an end as the physician I worked with for 14 years was retiring. My oldest daughter was thriving in her job at a Montessori preschool, my second daughter had always been passionate about music and the arts, and as parents of a toddler, we wished there were more opportunities for young children and their caregivers to do fun things together. Our own children had attended Montessori preschool, and I had long believed in its child-directed, playbased philosophy. By the end of the road trip, we had the beginnings of an idea: combine my healthcare background and understanding of child development with my daughter’s passion for early childhood education. In March 2015, we opened Little Me Studio. Today, Little Me Studio is more than a place to make art - it’s a community where children and adults alike discover, create, connect, and grow together. Through hands-on experiences, children build essential life skills while adults form friendships and find a sense of belonging. Looking back, one family road trip changed the course of my career and my life. Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? The people. I have the privilege of working alongside my children and an incredible team that feels like family. My youngest son has grown up at Little Me Studio since he was two and now dreams of running it one day, and I get to watch my granddaughters, Genie & Rosie, experience the studio - that has been especially meaningful. I love welcoming new families, meeting each child where they are emotionally, helping build confidence and coping skills, and creating a place where lasting friendships and a true sense of belonging can grow.

Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? What free time? (Just kidding... sort of!) I enjoy being outdoors, especially kayaking and walking my three dogs: Winnie, Sophie, and Roxie. Sitting by the lake with a good book and my family nearby is my favorite kind of day. I recently discovered watercolor painting and find it to be incredibly relaxing and meditative, so I sneak that in whenever I can. Q: Are you involved in any organizations outside of work? None currently. Previously, Bourbonnais Elementary PTA Secretary, Community Arts Council Board Member, Kankakee County Historical Society Auxiliary Board Member, T1D Kids Founder & Board Member. Q: What are your goals for the future? About a year and a half ago we launched the Art Collective, a series of creative workshops that brings together local artists, makers, and small businesses to offer hands-on experiences for adults hosted at the studio. It grew from years of parents telling us, “We wish you had something for us!” I’d love to continue expanding those partnerships and creating more opportunities for adults to connect, create, and
build community. Another goal is to launch our birthday party décor rental business—a project that’s been waiting for the time and attention it deserves.

Q: What led you down your current career path? When I immigrated to the United States, I came with the dream of building a better future for my family while also supporting my parents from afar. As a mother of three young children, I knew how important it was to find work that allowed me to be there for them while helping provide for my family. That experience inspired me to start Loyal General Cleaning Services Corp. in 2005. I didn’t start my business just to own a company, I wanted to create opportunities for other mothers who were looking for the same balance between work and family. Over the years, that same desire to help others also led me to pursue a degree in early childhood education. Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? What I enjoy most is knowing that my work makes a difference. Through my business, I have had the opportunity to serve many families and build relationships based on trust that have grown into lasting friendships over the years. In education as a bilingual paraprofessional, one of the greatest joys is seeing a child’s excitement and confidence when they discover they can learn something new. Being part of such an important stage in a child’s life is a privilege I truly value. Whether I’m serving families through my business or helping children in the classroom, the greatest reward is knowing I have made a positive impact in someone’s life.
Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? My favorite way to spend my free time is with my family. I am driven by a desire to make a meaningful impact on people’s lives. I’ve always enjoyed building relationships and solving problems. Working in staffing has allowed me to do both of these every day in an effort to make that positive impact on someone’s life. Q: What do you enjoy most about your job? I most enjoy the ability to create an environment that prioritizes personalized service and long-term partnerships within the community for both the workforce and local businesses. Q: What do you enjoy doing in your free time? In my free time, I most enjoy traveling to new places, visiting friends, and singing with my daughter.
Q: Are you involved in any organizations outside of work? I have been a volunteer in some capacity for the Kankakee County Chamber for the past 10 years. I have been Chair of the Board of Directors and the Ambassador committee. Currently, I am part of the Women in Networking committee. I also currently serve on the Workforce Board committee. I have a passion to serve the community to assist in business and personal growth. Q: What are your goals for the future? My goal is to grow my business network to its full capacity and continue to service this community with the integrity and service level that beats out my competition. Ultimately, I want to grow into other areas of Illinois. Q: What do you love most about Kankakee County? I moved here in March 2016 and have felt welcomed and supported by several organizations from the beginning. STREET CORN DIP From the Kitchen Of Paul Fruhwirth INGREDIENTS:
• 2 TBL Chili Powder • 2 tsp Smoked Paprika (plain is fine, too!) • ½ tsp Cayenne • 2 TBL Extra Virgin Olive Oil • 1 onion, diced • 2 cups fresh corn kernels, from 3-4 large ears of corn • 2 cloves of garlic, minced • ½ cup sour cream, full fat • 6 ounces cream cheese, full fat, room temp • 4 TBL salted butter • 1/3 cup mayo (plain Greek yogurt can be substituted) • 2 TBL fresh lime juice • ¾ cup crumbled cotija cheese (queso blanco or feta can be substituted in a pinch) • Chopped fresh cilantro, for garnish (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Combine the spices in a bowl, set aside. Heat the olive oil in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the onion and cook for about 5 minutes, until translucent and soft. Add the corn, garlic, and a teaspoon of the spice mixture. (Now would be a good time to add some salt and pepper, about a ½ tsp each) and cook for an additional 5 minutes. Add the cream cheese and stir until softened, then whisk in the sour cream. Remove from heat. 2. In a separate skillet, melt the butter. Mix in 3 teaspoons of the spice mix and a pinch of salt. Cook another minute and remove from heat. Let cool slightly. 3. In a medium bowl, mix the mayo and lime juice with a pinch of salt. Whisk in the spiced butter. 4. Place the dip into your serving bowl. The Vintage Pour
pops the cork

A
team of four is at the helm of a new wine bar – with two ladies leading the way.
Opening this past May, The Vintage Pour is located on South Schuyler Avenue in downtown Kankakee and is a joint venture between business partners Jolene Boothe and Justin Caldwell and father/daughter duo Andy and Anne Fredona. Boothe and Caldwell, both from Bourbonnais, also operate Sweet Darren’s, a non-profit bakery that provides job coaching, skill development, and social skills for individuals with disabilities named after Boothe’s son, Darren.
The family friends took over the site of the Cork Wine Bar which also had been Grapes & Hops. Boothe credits Caldwell for coming up with the idea for the wine bar, but it was “us girls who took it and ran with it,” she added. Co-owner Anne Fredona said, now that the establishment is open, “getting to meet all the people has been the best part…and hearing their stories.” Open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays, the establishment hopes to extend the number of days open to include Wednesdays and Thursdays.

It also is available for private events from Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays – something that already has become very popular.
“We have been asked so much to have nonalcoholic slushies,” Boothe added that they are adding a second hopper to meet that request.
Already numerous birthday and graduation parties, rehearsal dinners, and bridal showers have been held at the wine bar, according to Boothe.
Local and regional beers including Mexican lager Tortilla Hands and west coast IPA Straight Blade, from Soundgrowler, a Tinley Park craft brewery, are on hand.
During the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings, The Vintage Pour opens to give patrons a place to use the restroom and while there they can opt for a mimosa or bloody mary.
The name for the new venture came about from Boothe’s and Jill Fredona’s (Andy’s wife and Anne’s mom) passion for antique shopping after “toying around with a few different names.”
The Vintage Pour features local vineyards including the family owned and operated Mistie Hill Vineyard located in Custer Park.
“All of us together spend a lot of time antique shopping and we are always roping people into going with us,” Boothe said, “The aesthetics downtown are a very old classy theme, and we really wanted to keep that historic vintage look.”
“They are a hidden gem, and their wine has been welcomed heavily in the community,” Boothe said.
“We would like to create a wall in the wine bar that features the historical aspects of Schuyler Avenue,” Boothe said.
French Lick Winery in Indiana is another local vineyard that is featured at The Vintage Pour.
Fredona recalls visiting the space for the first time.
The bourbon, vodka, and bloody mary mix are also from French Lick. The foursome has made a goal to expand to include another vineyard for seasonal wine selections. The Vintage Pour also features wine slushies using a locally sourced Sauvignon Blanc wine and a slushie mix from Tennessee, Boothe said. The wine slushies have been Anne Fredona’s favorite drink so far.
“The brick building and the inside has so much character. The space alone was something we felt like we couldn’t pass up on,” she added. Fredona and Boothe are busy adding special events to The Vintage Pour’s calendar and already hosted its first pilates on the patio in July – that also included a glass of wine. Other events in the works include candle making, bingo, and karaoke with hopes there will be something for everyone to enjoy. For more info, visit The Vintage Pour on Facebook

he Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra Women’s Guild (KVSOWG) had a very successful style show on May 14, 2026 and many Women’s Guild board members as well as KVSO Association board members were in attendance. The KVSOWG had 145 reservations for the style show held at the Kankakee Country Club and made a profit of $4,889.84. On May 19, 2026 at the KVSOWG annual meeting, President Liz Madsen presented a check in the amount of $21,700.00 to KVSOA treasurer Marcie Kolberg to be used to fund the concerts and any other needs of the KVSOA.

n Friday, June 5, 2026, the Riverside Healthcare Foundation hosted the 49th Annual Riverside ProAm Golf Tournament at Kankakee Country Club.
Golfers, sponsors, and supporters came together for 18 holes of golf, great meals, and a 19th Hole Reception — raising $219,000 all in support of Behavioral Health services at Riverside Healthcare.
