After working hard planning all the fun events, we are so excited to ofﬁcially announce a full schedule of events for the 76th Anniversary of Swedish Days. We are bringing back your favorite events of past years and are pleased to introduce some fun new attractions as well! Our great volunteers, many parade participants and food vendors serving delicious eats all return to create this festival of fun.

The festival will begin on Wednesday, June 24, showcasing our award-winning Geneva Park District and all it has to offer, including Geneva’s Got Talent semi-ﬁnals and a performance by the Swedish American Children’s Choir. The carnival and the Craft Brew Tent will be open each day, serving delicious craft selections. Our non-proﬁts will begin food sales, and the Geneva History Museum will show you what makes Geneva special with their historic tours.

The Central Stage entertainment continues Thursday with Geneva Park District’s Geneva’s Got Talent ﬁnals, and the night ends with music by an ABBA Tribute Band, Dancing Queen. Central Stage will feature a variety of bands throughout the event. Excellent entertainment in the Craft Brew Tent is back, along with games the entire family will enjoy. We invite you to experience Swedish Nights on Wednesday and Thursday evenings as well, when select shops will be open until 8 pm or later. In addition, some of our merchants will have special sales and promotions during their Sidewalk Specials. Our favorite sporting events hosted by the Geneva Park District will return. On Thursday, downtown Geneva’s streets will transform into pickleball courts for those 18 and over who want to show off their skills. The popular Dodgeball Tournament for children aged 8-14 will be held at Wheeler Park. Saturday morning brings the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament right on Third Street. Speaking of being active, make sure to register for the 5K Swedish Lopp (Lopp is Swedish for race)! The race is at 7:30 am on Saturday, June 25, at Gunnar Anderson Forest Preserve. All new this year is the Kids Dash for children 10 and under, starting at 9 am.

Our Settlers Breakfast will be at Riverside Receptions this year at 35 N. River Ln. on Thursday, June 25. A continental breakfast will be served at 8:30 am. This event is open (and free) to all our residents who have lived in Geneva for 25 years or longer. The Geneva History Museum will give a presentation.

Friday brings our Kids’ Day event, located at the Geneva Public Library. The day begins with the Kids’ Parade registration at 10:00 am at Fourth and Campbell Street. Look for the BIG sign. Fun booths with interactive games, local entertainment including the Midwest Dance Conservatory, Geneva High School Cheer and Dance Teams, Aurelio’s pizza sales and much more are all part of this special day. Bring the kids down from 11:00 am-2:00 pm for a day of safe, inclusive fun.

End the fun of Swedish Days by watching The Grand Parade starting at 1:00 p.m.

Come for the Run – Stay for the Fun

Geneva Chamber of Commerce and Chicago Race Management are pleased to announce the return of a new and improved 5K run, during the 76th Anniversary of Swedish Days.

Named for the Swedish word for run, the 5K Lopp will kick off on June 27 at 7:30 am from Gunnar Anderson Forest Preserve, 719 South Batavia Avenue in Geneva.

The Kids Dash for children 10 and under starts at 9 a.m.

The path in this scenic park promises an unbelievable race experience. We encourage you to tie-in with the Scandinavian theme with your attire.

Celebrating 76 years of Swedish Days

This annual parade is an eye- and ear-opening experience with marching bands, colorful ﬂoats, and extraordinary entertainers and local community groups and businesses. Our Swedish Days parade culminates a week of fun, food and friends.

The parade steps off at 1 p.m., Sunday, June 28, and winds through downtown Geneva.

The parade path starts from the high school area at Center Street and Anderson Boulevard and continues south on Anderson turning east onto State Street. In the center of town, the march will continue south on Third Street and disband at the Metra train station.

4:30 p.m. - Central Stage – Swedish Midsummer Procession & Swedish American Children’s Choir

Join the musicians and singers from the Swedish American Children’s Choir from St. Charles, as they open the festival and welcome you with a traditional Swedish Välkommen. There will be music, songs and audience participation dances reﬂecting Swedish Midsummer. Celebrating their 27th year, the Swedish American Children’s Choir and Musicians are the largest choir of their kind in the Midwest. Singers 4-18 years old learn about the Scandinavian culture through the arts. They were chosen to perform on the Main Stage at Mall of American last year. They have performed on WGN TV in Chicago, the Scandinavian Festival of Wisconsin, at American Girl Place, National Convention of the American Union of Swedish Singers and they were chosen as a featured choir for the Chicago Cultural Alliance-Inherit Chicago music series.

Enjoy live performances by the Geneva Park District’s Angels Cheer Team, the Geneva Gymnastics Academy, Playhouse 38 youth performers, and the Geneva Park District’s Sunset Dance Academy.

7 p.m - Central Stage – Geneva’s Got Talent Semi-Finals Cheer on your favorite Geneva’s Got Talent performers as they compete in the GGT Semi-Finals for the chance to move on to the Finals and ultimately win a cash prize! Having distinguished himself as a popular crowd engaging acoustic artist. Billboard award winner Michael Paterson brings his high energy, crowd engaging show to restaurants and clubs throughout the Chicagoland area. Covering decades of pop, rock and country favorites from Bon Jovi to The Beatles and Chicago to Keith Urban. Michael will take you on a musical journey sure to have you singing along.

5 p.m - Central Stage – The Sociables

The Sociables are a 6-piece acoustic/electric rock band centered in the Fox Valley area. A collection of long-time friends and former bandmates who met through school and the local band scene, they sought to do something different. Their unique brand of entertainment fuses tight vocal harmonies, stellar guitar tones, a rock-solid rhythm section and keys, with a focus on performing songs that you love, but maybe haven’t heard a band attempt to perform. Their surprisingly fresh setlists with cuts from artists like Jackson Browne, Nathaniel Rateliff, Phil Collins, Elvis Costello and INXS will have you singing along and jumping to the dance ﬂoor. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL, where he studied Music and Architecture. Drew performs regularly throughout the Tri-Cities, including FoxFire, Aurelio’s, Preservation, and The Wine Exchange. 2 p.m. - Courthouse Lawn, S. Third St. –Nordic Folk Dancers

Enjoy traditional Scandinavian dancing with Nordic Folk Dancers of Chicago. Performances at 2:00pm, 2:45pm, 3:30pm and 4:15pm.

3 p.m. - Craft Beer Tent –Afternoon Logic

Based in the western suburbs, Afternoon Logic has performed all over the Chicagoland area, delighting audiences with its eclectic array of music and arrangements. Multi-Instrumentalist Dave Purdy and Female Vocalist Gretchen DeCraene bring you everything from the 60s to today’s artists and hits, all done in a modern style that is unique and a delight to your ears!

Danny was born and raised in Geneva. He is a singer and guitarist with years of experience playing a wide range of music. His repertoire includes songs by Neil Young, The Beatles, Radiohead, Grateful Dead, Phoebe Bridgers and more.

SWEDISH MIDSUMMER

PROCESSION & SWEDISH AMERICAN CHILDREN’S CHOIR

Join the musicians and singers from the Swedish American Children’s Choir from St. Charles, as they open the festival and welcome you with a traditional Swedish Välkommen. There will be music, songs and audience participation dances reﬂecting Swedish Midsummer. Celebrating their 24th year, the Swedish American Children’s Choir and Musicians are the largest choir of their kind in the Midwest. Singers 4-18 years old learn about the Scandinavian culture through the arts. They have performed on WGN TV in Chicago, the Scandinavian Festival of Wisconsin, at American Girl Place, National Convention of the American Union of Swedish Singers and they were chosen as a featured choir for the Chicago Cultural Alliance-Inherit Chicago music series.

Get together for the area’s hottest sport: Pickleball! Each individual is guaranteed 4 games, and each player will receive a tournament shirt, refreshment, 1st - 3rd place prizes as well as gift bags for all participants. The tournament is open to both men and women divisions, ages 18+. The women’s division will play from 8:00am-9:30am. The men’s division will play from 9:30-11:00am. VIKING SHIP TOURS - Good Templar Park, 528 East Side Dr.

The 1893 “VIKING” is a full-sized, 78-foot-long replica of an original 1,000-year-old Viking ship excavated in Norway. In 1893, “VIKING” with its daring crew of 12, sailed nonstop and alone across the stormy Atlantic from Norway to Canada. It then sailed on to Chicago, to become a star attraction at the famous 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition. “VIKING” has been a popular attraction in Good Templar Park in Geneva for nearly 30 years. Admission includes a guided tour ($7 for adults; $4 for teens 13-17; free for children. See the ship’s website at www.vikingship.us for viewing days and hours. Besides visiting the ship in Good Templar Park, don’t miss the exciting free display on “VIKING” in the Geneva Public Library featuring the huge, dramatic, hand-carved wooden dragon ﬁgurehead and tail of the 1893 “VIKING” ship, with recreated Viking warrior’s shields.

Put a quarter in the slot and have local artist Spencer Donahue draw you! The Doodle Booth will resemble a photo booth, but instead of a photo strip, you will receive a portrait pen doodle-style drawing.

KUBB A SCANDINAVIAN LAWN GAME – on the Courthouse Lawn (between 3rd and Campbell) Kubb is an outdoor lawn game played on grass where opponents on each side of a small ﬁeld try to knock down wooden blocks of the person they are playing before they knock down their blocks. There are rumors that Kubb was invented by the Vikings a thousand years ago, but it most likely started on the island of Gotland in Sweden, out in the Baltic Sea, in the 1920s or a little earlier. A lot of times people compare it to a combination of horseshoe, bocce, and bowling Kubb has very strong roots in Sweden and the Scandinavian region.
