WELCOME to the Magic of the Season

There’s something truly special about the holidays in Geneva. As the chill of winter settles in and twinkling lights begin to glow, our charming town transforms into a holiday wonderland— ready to welcome you and your loved ones.

On behalf of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce and our entire community, I invite you to experience the joy and wonder of our 58th Annual Christmas Walk on Friday, December 5 at 6 p.m. in beautiful downtown Geneva. This beloved tradition captures the spirit of the season with nostalgic charm and small-town warmth.

As you stroll our festive streets lined with fresh greenery and sparkling lights, you’ll be greeted by the comforting scent of roasting chestnuts and the cheerful voices of carolers singing holiday favorites. A live nativity scene will offer a quiet moment of reflection, while dazzling window displays filled with unique gift ideas invite you to explore our downtown shops, where merchants will be serving seasonal treats.

We invite you to join us for this year’s TREE-lightful Celebration, when the Great Tree and our historic courthouse will be illuminated in a heartwarming display of lights and community spirit. The evening continues with cherished Geneva traditions, including the arrival of Santa Lucia, Christmas cookies and handmade candy canes, and the long-awaited appearance of Santa Claus himself.

Beginning December 5, Santa will welcome children to his winter wonderland home at the Geneva Visitors Center, located at 10 South Third Street. After that, he will be available on Saturdays and Sundays through December 20. Reservations are required to ensure each child enjoys a special one-on-one visit. While you’re downtown, enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride along Third Street

and be sure to drop your letters to Santa in his official mailbox at the North Pole Post Office on the courthouse lawn.

We also invite you to take part in the Holiday House Tour on December 5 and 6. Five beautifully decorated homes, each full of character and holiday charm, will open their doors for selfguided tours. Local decorators and landscapers have partnered with homeowners to create stunning displays that capture the spirit of the season. Your $42 ticket includes the tour, a festive Holiday Tea at the Congregational Church, and a special gift while supplies last. Proceeds from the tour help support the decorations that make our downtown shine throughout the season.

All of these holiday experiences are presented by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce with the generous support of our presenting sponsors Little Red Barn Door, Little Red Baby, and the City of Geneva, along with countless community volunteers.

We look forward to welcoming you to Geneva and sharing the warmth, hospitality, and magic that make our town so special this time of year. May your visit become a joyful part of your holiday tradition.

Warmest wishes for a wonderful season,

President, Geneva Chamber of Commerce

Each year, the Geneva High School drum and flag line rallies more than 100 loyal, bell-ringing customers to parade through town and deliver the very first candy cane of the season to the Mayor, just before the holiday tree sparkles to life. Gifts & Decor at Little Red Barn Door

When Sylvia Torres found herself to be the mother of older children, little did she realize this parenting milestone would eventually lead to a professional career change as well.

For 20 years, she did accounting and human resources for her family’s steel company. As her children got older, Torres began searching antique stores and markets to redecorate her home.

Unsure what to do with purchases she didn’t like once she brought them home, people encouraged her to sell the items online. Eventually Torres ended up with a following and began a side hustle with an online store. That’s when her husband suggested she open her own physical store.

Wanting something near her home in St. Charles, Torres started Little Red Barn Door

Photos provided by Sylvia Torres

in a 600-square-foot space on the second floor of the Berry House in downtown Geneva. She stayed there until 2022, when a bigger space down the street became available.

Little Red Barn Door is a boutique featuring home decor, florals, accessories and thoughtful gifts.

“I try to find items that are unique. I don’t want to carry products that other stores carry,” says Torres.

One of her goals is to have Little Red Barn Door get back to its roots, offering antiques and architectural salvage — decor that comes from old buildings. The shop also offers a variety of gift options such as slippers, jewelry, little notebooks depicting the names of Fox Valley towns, tea towels and ornaments. Torres recently expanded her offerings with the addition of light apparel including T-shirts, dresses, cardigans and socks.

The holiday collection will include seasonalscented candles and room sprays, holiday-themed art, tea towels, ornaments, mini Christmas trees, holiday florals, pillows, snowmen decor, hot cocoa mix, marshmallows, candy canes, winter hats and cute cardigans and sweaters.

Torres curates her products to provide festive home decor as well as ideal gift options for family and friends.

The last few years, Little Red Barn Door sponsored a home in Geneva’s annual Holiday House Tour. As part of the festive fun, the team works with the homeowners on ways they can decorate the house, including incorporating any holiday decorations the homeowners own into the design.

Inspired by what they see in the holiday home, Torres says customers often head over to Little Red Barn Door looking for featured items to replicate the look at their own home.

In the future, Torres hopes to offer events and workshops at the shop like she used to do at her former warehouse space.

Directions: From Rt. 38 (State St.), turn south on Third Street. Continue South on Third Street over the train tracks. Turn right (west) onto Route 31/ Batavia Avenue. Continue on Batavia Avenue to Fargo Boulevard. Home is on the right side of the street.

Tuckedbeneath the trees and the stars sits a home that shines with both architectural history and heartfelt hospitality. Built in 1957 and lovingly expanded in recent years, this Modern Contemporary home seamlessly blends midcentury design with sophisticated luxury. During the holidays, it glows with joy, laughter, and the unmistakable warmth of Christmas.

suite and their son’s room, lovingly passed down from the homeowner’s mother. Delicate Taiwanese antiques, including a gold vase and other heritage items, were brought by the homeowner when she moved to the United States.

Designed by renowned Chicago North Shore architect Walter Frazier, the original structure captures the clean lines and understated elegance of its era. In 2023, the homeowners embarked on a renovation that expanded the home to the west, north, and south. The result is a reimagined 4,300-square-foot space that honors its architectural roots, while meeting the needs of a lively, creative modern family.

Step inside, and you’re immediately greeted by the spirit of the season. The dining table is set with festive sophistication, ready for meaningful catch-ups with college-aged children back under one roof. What once stood as a black walnut tree in the yard has been lovingly milled and repurposed into a custom, one-of-a-kind dining table, bringing memory and nature into the heart of the home. Outside, snow falls quietly past large-scale custom windows inspired by the home’s original façade, while inside, the glow from the fireplace warms every gathering.

In the heart of the kitchen, custom-painted maple cabinetry, crafted in a timeless Shaker style, offers a backdrop as crisp as winter frost. Floating walnut shelves, made from the same beloved tree, display holiday treasures, twinkling garland, and plates of Christmas cookies waiting to be shared. A generous island topped with honed quartzite invites family and friends to gather for baking marathons, festive meals, and unhurried conversation. Nearby, the kitchen fireplace casts a soft, cozy glow, making the space as welcoming as it is functional. Here, recipes are passed down, and stories are stirred in with cinnamon and pine; the quiet magic of the season fills the air like a whispered carol.

In the home’s adjacent family room, unwinding feels effortless. Surrounded almost entirely by windows, the space blurs the line between indoors and out, offering panoramic views of the snowy landscape while wrapping guests in the warmth of home. It’s the perfect setting for a late-night cup of cocoa or a festive toast from the room’s beverage bar, all beneath the gentle shimmer of twinkle lights from the Christmas tree.

The holidays bring a special energy to this home, and the joy that radiates from the Caballero family is reflected in the thoughtful, curated décor. The spacious layout is ideal for hosting, with room for grown children to gather, laugh, and reconnect. Antiques and heirlooms enrich the home with layers of personal history: midcentury pieces in the primary

In the hallway leading to the serene primary suite, a framed print of the original home is a tribute to the past, and a reminder of how far this home has come. The suite itself is a peaceful retreat from the holiday bustle, softened with rich textures and tranquil tones, a private corner of calm in a joyful, bustling season. The ensuite bath feels like a personal spa, with a deep soaking tub and elegant fixtures, a perfect escape after a day of holiday hosting. Just beyond, a generously sized walk-in closet is the envy even of Mrs. Claus, with space for neatly tucked-away gifts and a few festive surprises, all thoughtfully arranged with the same care and design seen throughout the home.

As you step outside, reflect on this stunner’s festive atmosphere that celebrates modern traditional design, where every room tells a story of love, warmth, and belonging, synonymous with Christmas.

The Mickelsen Home

1118 Fargo Boulevard

Directions: From Rt. 38 (State St.), turn south on Third Street. Continue South on Third Street over the train tracks. Turn right (west) onto Route 31/Batavia Avenue. Continue on Batavia Avenue to Fargo Boulevard. Continue west on Fargo past Home #1. Home is on the left side of the street.

Christmas sparkles in this elegant, traditional-style 4,100-square-foot Augustine Custom Home, built in 2002. Steep gables are traced in warm white lights; their clean outlines echoing the soft amber glow spilling from the home’s many windows. The stately landscape is dressed for the season with fresh pines, garlands, and twinkling strands of lights that make the entire yard shimmer with festive magic. This is a place where “home for the holidays” rings especially true, and what lies beyond the inviting front porch and prominent doorway only deepens that sentiment.

in this backyard space where countless moments have been shared. Fittingly, Western Avenue School sits just beyond the fence, a charming coincidence, as both Mom and all four children once walked its halls. That familiar connection adds yet another layer of heart to this special home.

Stepping into the front foyer, it’s easy to feel right at home. The grand staircase in the entry is dressed with garland and warm white lights; the soft scent of pine greets you, mingling with the quiet crackle of a fire burning in the hearth just beyond the staircase. For the homeowner, the connection runs even deeper than the seasonal ambiance. As a child, she spent time on this very property visiting family friends who once lived here. The land made a lasting impression, one that stayed with her for years. After the original house was sold and the property was divided into two lots, this home was eventually built. Years later, when she and her husband were looking for a new place to call home, she stepped onto the lot and was immediately overcome with a sense of familiarity. Simply put: It felt like home. Now, during the holidays, that feeling is even more profound.

To the right of the foyer, through a wide arched opening trimmed in woodwork, the sitting room offers a quiet kind of splendor. At its heart stands a beautiful grand piano, its curves catching the soft glow of the nearby tree lights. On the opposite side of the foyer, the formal dining room glows with equal warmth and intention. Standing tall in the corner is a distinguished grandfather clock, handcrafted by the homeowner’s maternal grandfather, a piece of family history that has found its perfect place here. The dining table is set with delicate Christmas dishes passed down by Mr. Mickelsen’s mother. She adored Christmas, and her joy for the season lives on in every plate and teacup as toasts are raised, traditions are shared, and memories are made at this table.

Beyond a beautiful family kitchen and an inviting living room lies an outdoor haven big enough for Rudolph and his herd of reindeer. Whether it’s a swim in the spa pool, a relaxing dip in the hot tub, warming up around the firepit, or catching the game from the 21’x21’ screened porch oasis, there’s no shortage of space here for reindeer games or family memories to take flight.

Though the family’s four grown children didn’t grow up in this house, they certainly are lucky to call it home, especially

This home tells a story of coming full circle, returning to a place that once held childhood joy and now holds holiday magic. As you exit the side porch door and into the chill outdoors, soak in the warmth of this inviting space, and the undeniable feeling that home is the heart of the holidays.

The Home of Kristin Shorr

833 Sunset Road

Directions: From Rt. 38 (State St.), turn south on Third Street. Continue on Third Street over the train tracks. Turn right (west) onto Cheever Avenue. Continue on Cheever to Meadows Road. Turn left (south) on Meadows Road. Turn right (west) on Sunset Road. Home will be on the left side of the street.

Step into the glow of this spectacular 1947 Cape Cod Holiday Classic. Set on one of Geneva’s most prestigious tree-lined streets, The Home of Kristin Shorr is 3,600 square feet of timeless charm, thoughtful design, and festive cheer.

Lovingly refreshed in 2024 by Toms Price Home, this home is a perfect blend of traditional and modern, filled with seasonal sparkle and the warmth of family and friends gathered close. The magic begins the moment you walk in. Simon Pearce crystal trees shimmer in the entryway, hinting at the joyful details waiting around every corner.

The staircase, with its beautifully preserved original banister, is softened by a comfortable stair runner that leads to the second floor, where three bedrooms await, each with generously appointed ensuite bathrooms. Every suite is uniquely cozy and character-filled, making it clear that being a guest in Kristin’s home is not only a treat but a memory in the making. It’s easy to imagine grandchildren tucked in here, dreaming of magical sleigh rides and sugar plum fairies.

Sophistication meets comfort in the living room, as a magnificent tree sparkles and an original fireplace welcomes you, dressed in evergreens by our decorators, SG Geneva. Continue through to the light-filled sunroom featuring a charming brick wall and an original painting of the homeowner’s dog, Millie, a heartfelt piece by local artist Richard Sperry of Proud Fox Gallery.

The dining room is one of the homeowner’s most cherished spaces, a place where she loves gathering family and close friends around the table for meaningful meals and lively conversation. Large windows and elegant French doors open onto the backyard, flooding the room with natural light and offering peaceful views. During the holidays, twinkling lights and sprigs of evergreen bring a festive sparkle, while the windows, beautifully dressed by Drapery Connection throughout the home, frame the wintery scene like pages from a storybook, adding a touch of seasonal magic to every gathering.

Step into the kitchen, and you’re met with timeless beauty. Whether it’s morning coffee, meal prep for a cozy dinner, or hosting a full holiday feast, this space is designed to bring everyone together. Here, generations gather to bake Christmas cookies and swap Santa stories. There’s a playful nostalgia in every corner—from a Casper the Friendly Ghost cookie jar passed down through multiple generations, to a shelf filled with Royal Doulton Toby Jugs from Kristin’s childhood.

That thread of memory continues in the family room, where a beloved Charles Vickery seascape painting, from Kristin’s

childhood home, hangs above the original fireplace mantel, and evergreens drape elegantly to the floor. The coffered ceiling, featuring grass cloth by Phillip Jeffries, provides texture and adds architectural richness and warmth, wrapping the room in a quiet elegance. Look closely and you’ll find the original blueprints of the home, drawn by celebrated North Shore architect Ralph Stoetzel, displayed above the sofa—perhaps inspiring a spontaneous Home Alone marathon (yes, Kevin did use blueprints to outsmart the Wet Bandits).

On display in the back hallway is a framed print of the 1958 Saturday Evening Post cover painting, Trick-or-Treating in the Burbs, by John Falter. It’s more than décor—it’s a snapshot of the fun, casual spirit that Kristin brings to every inch of the home. More than anything, what makes this home special is how it brings people together. This home is a place for real moments—and the real joy of being with those you love.

Each twinkling light, evergreen bough, and hand-picked ornament has been carefully arranged to remind us of the joy that is in the season ahead.

The Riebe Family Home

Directions: From Rt. 38 (State St.), turn north onto Third St. Continue to Ford Street. The home is on the NE corner of 3rd and Ford.

Welcome to a timeless holiday Greek Revival gem nestled in the heart of Geneva’s historic district. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this beauty is one of the oldest homes in Geneva. Built between 1846 and 1853, and thoughtfully renovated in 2020, this 3,200-square-foot home beautifully blends old-world craftsmanship with modern comfort. The original limestone foundation and front doorway is dressed for the holidays in lavish greenery; its 1846 leaded glass transom remains intact, grounding the home in its rich past.

The home’s story begins with Sampson Chambers, who acquired the land in 1846. His son, a carpenter, likely built the home for his sister Jane, who later sold it to Simon and Mary Krum in 1852. Their daughter, Kate (Krum) Canning, was born, married, and died in the home, living there until 1927. Her husband, William G. Canning, a skilled carpenter, is believed to have added the nowdistinctive second-floor dormers. In 1936, El Donne and Ethel Manning purchased the home, adding a kitchen extension and a one-story wing while updating the home over the next two decades. When the Riebe family purchased the home in 2020, it had been long abandoned. The home underwent a complete transformation. The historical portion of the home was extensively renovated, leaving the original footprint intact, and preserving the historical character of the house. A new addition was built to seamlessly blend with the original structure, while redefining the layout to create a modern flow. This allowed the homeowners to add contemporary amenities without compromising the home’s historical integrity.

During the holidays, the home comes to life with glowing lights and the sparkle of cherished family heirlooms. In the dining room, the table is set for Christmas dinner; delicate china and polished silver are laid out atop festive greens. In the living room, the original Chicago brick fireplace radiates warmth, casting a cozy glow as it awaits Santa’s arrival.

The heart of the home, and the star of the 2020 addition, is the chef-inspired kitchen. This sun-drenched, openconcept space is the perfect backdrop to showcase the winter wonderland just beyond its doors, where soft light pours through tall windows and reflects off the snowy landscape outside. It’s a space where the warmth of holiday baking mingles with the magic of the season, inviting family and friends to gather, linger, and take in the serene beauty beyond. It features a quartz-topped island, a professional-grade range, and custom cabinetry that conceals high-end appliances.

Adjacent to the kitchen, the primary suite has been thoughtfully designed to include a luxurious ensuite bath. At its heart is a spacious marble walk-in shower with sleek, frameless glass. Beyond the main bedroom, the suite also features a custom dressing closet with built-in cabinetry. Double doors open directly onto the outdoor patio, seamlessly extending the home’s living space.

Upstairs, a cozy guest suite with charming rooflines offers enchanting views of the twinkling lights in historic Geneva from a private balcony dusted with snow. It includes a changing area and a private bath, creating a warm and welcoming retreat for visiting family to unwrap the magic of the season. Before you exit, take one more note of the home glowing with holiday beauty, celebrating a new generation of sparkling traditions, while honoring over a century of cherished gatherings that have come before.

The Home of Robert and Michelle Parker

318 N. Second Street

Directions: From Rt. 38 (State St.), turn north onto Third St. Turn right (east) onto Ford Street. Proceed east on Ford past Home #4. Turn left (north) on Second St. Home is on the left side of the street.

Discover the charm of this elegant holiday farmhouse, lovingly restored and glowing with Christmas spirit. With roots dating back to the 19th century, this storied property holds generations of history and character. This land was originally purchased by Sampson Chambers (who, interestingly, also owned the original lot to House #4, The Riebe Family Home, just around the corner). For the next 100 years it is believed to have been in the Oberg/Thompson Family. Martin Thompson was the devoted caretaker of Island Park for over 20 years.

Perhaps the most meaningful holiday tradition is the ever-growing Nutcracker collection which began the night Robert proposed to Michelle after a performance of The Nutcracker in Atlanta in 1990. That evening, Michelle gifted him a brass Nutcracker ornament at dinner after the show, completely unaware that he’d be on one knee moments later. Every Christmas since, a new Nutcracker joins their collection.

When Robert and Michelle Parker moved in six years ago, they didn’t just buy a house, they took on a beautiful piece of Geneva’s history. With the help of Wetmore Construction in 2019, they thoughtfully renovated the home, blending old soul with new life, and the occasional paw print (courtesy of Bernie and Winston, their fluffy Great Pyrenees rescue dogs). Every room feels like it has a story to tell, especially during the holidays. Christmas is Michelle’s favorite season, and our talented friends at Farmdog Flowers helped bring that spirit to life this year, dressing the home in garlands, greens, and a touch of holiday wonder. It’s the kind of place where you half expect to hear sleigh bells, smell fresh-baked cookies in the kitchen and hear laughter around every corner.

As you walk through, the original hardwood floors creak just a little, like they’re sharing secrets from Christmases long ago. The large front bay windows, donning their original hardware, are the perfect place to curl up with a warm cup of tea and watch the snow fall, while a fire in the fireplace warms the room. The Christmas tree, twinkling in the corner, is dressed in ornaments collected from family travels, each one a tiny time capsule, as well as annual White House ornaments, reflecting the Parkers’ love for country and tradition.

During the 2019 renovation, contractors unearthed a surprise: part of an old railroad track buried beneath the foundation! The Parkers saved the piece, and you can now spot it at their charming shop and restaurant, Chi-cuterie. Oil paintings by Robert’s great-grandmother and pencil sketches by his great-great-grandmother grace the walls in the back hallway and bathroom.

The inviting screened-in porch, added in 2019, features a welcoming stacked stone fireplace where guests love to gather, no matter the season. The primary suite, also part of the addition, includes a stunning round window set above architectural beams with adjustable lighting that gives the space a quiet glow. That same design detail appears in the primary bath, along with a soaking tub, an oversized walk-in shower, and heated floors that complete the spa-like experience.

Two more bedrooms and a bathroom are tucked into the darling original upstairs. One features an iron bed purchased by Michelle’s great-grandfather with his very first paycheck when he was just 17 years old. In the heart of the home, the warm, welcoming kitchen and bar shine with holiday charm. Here, Michelle’s beloved Blue Willow china collection is proudly displayed. Each piece was gifted by her grandmother,

who scoured antique shops for each piece, always accompanied by a story, a newspaper clipping, or a handwritten note. You can almost hear the hum of Bing Crosby in the background.

As you step back into the wintery air, take a little of this home’s magic with you. Here, the past is honored, the present is cozy, and Christmas is always in the air.
