James (Junior) Banks For more than 80 years Junior has called Newton his home. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1946. Junior worked as a shoe shiner at the Hotel Maytag after high school before joining the United States Army. He served in the military for seven years, and after returning home, became a Unites States Postal Carrier. After 23 years as a neighborhood mailman Junior retired but continued to work serving 12 years at Progress Industries and Vernon Family. Junior was married to his late wife Patsy for 46 years and they have 4 children; Patty, Jeff, Jaymie, and Nadia. He has 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 5 greatgreat grandchildren. Junior currently resides at Park Centre in Newton. Growing up in a predominately white community, Junior broke racial barriers and prejudices with his joyful presence, kind personality, and positive attitude. He is a memorable Newton resident who has made an immeasurable impact on Jasper County.
