ospitals can be scary for children, and that was especially true when 6-year-old Jack Springer recently had to come in for asthma screening. “He’s kind of an anxious kid,” said Jack’s mom, Jenny. “He’d had recurring croup for years and had also started having diffculty breathing when playing soccer, so he was pretty worried and worked up.”
From the moment the family entered the hospital, Skiff staff took notice of Jack’s nervousness and worked to make him feel better. “From the reception desk to the gift shop to the Specialty Clinic, everyone went out of their way to talk to him and help him relax,” Jenny said.
This trend continued in particular with respiratory therapist Scott Pline, whose behavior Jenny described as “the definition of going the extra mile.”
