Soldier gets escort on way to deployment Fire and police depts. accompany Manley BY VINDE WELLS vwells@oglecountynews.com A Forreston soldier got a patriotic send-off Saturday evening as he left for his first overseas deployment. Army National Guard Spc. Ryan Manley, 27, was escorted on the first leg of his journey July 20 by Forreston firetrucks and a police truck with lights and sirens blazing. After supper with family and friends a Mimmo’s, Manley got into a black SUV to go to the Freeport Armory where his unit, the 333rd MP Company, is headquartered. The fire and police department vehicles took him as far as Baileyville and Pit Roads north of town. “Leaving my kids and family is the hardest part,” Manley said. Manley and his wife have three small children, including a six-month-old baby. His parents are Tony and Jennifer Manley, of Lanark. The 2010 graduate of Forreston High School has served in the Army National

According to a press release Monday from the Illinois National Guard Public Affairs office, the 120 soldiers in the 333rd are headed for Guantanomo Bay,

Cuba, and will be gone for nine months. “I feel honored and proud to serve my country,” Manley said. “I’m excited to complete my mission and to look out for my fellow soldiers. I’m doing something bigger than myself.”

Sauerkraut Days Car Show is Aug. 3 The Forreston American Legion Family will sponsor its 11th annual car show as part of the yearly Sauerkraut Days on Saturday, Aug. 3 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Forreston’s Memorial Park. More than 150 cars and motorcycles are expected during the daylong show. Dash plaques will be given to the first 100 entries, and door prizes will be given out during the day. Sauerkraut lunches will be served from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost of a lunch is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 7-12. Music will be provided by 3D Sound. For information about car entries call Chris Moore, American Legion Riders, at 815-979-5044. Trophies for the car and bike show will be awarded at 3 p.m. The annual 50-50 drawing winner will be announced at 3:30 p.m.

Family loses nearly all possessions in house fire BY VINDE WELLS vwells@oglecountynews.com Friends and neighbors have rallied around a rural Oregon family in the aftermath of a fire that destroyed their home last week. A fast-moving fire swept through the home of retired Ogle County Deputy Al Koper, his daughter Tanya Koper-Bowers, and her two teenage daughters at 2589 W. Oregon Trail Rd. on July 16, destroying the building and its contents, including Al’s pick-up truck which was parked in the attached garage. With the help of friends, the family sorted through the charred remains of their possessions late last week to find anything that might be salvageable. Koper-Bowers said nearly everything was burned beyond use. “Dad did find his baby book. We’re just trying to salvage what we can.” she said on Saturday. “There are a couple of sewing machines we hope to get out, but we’ll see.” Samantha Bowers, 16, was busy working with a family friend in 90-degree heat searching for salvageable items from the home’s living room. They meticuously reached into a charred display case carefully lifting soot-covered glassware through broken glass doors and carrying it out to the home’s porch. Samantha, who will be a junior at Oregon High School this school year, also lost all of her show blankets for her sheep and goats. Her softball glove was in the back of her grandfather’s truck that was reduced to a burned out shell in the

Hough said the home was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived within minutes after it was reported. Fire crews remained on the scene until almost 10 p.m. Besides battling the blaze, fire-

fighters also dealt with the temperature that approached 90 degrees and high humidity. Extra fire crews were called in just before 6 p.m. to relieve those on the scene. Fire departments who assisted Mt. Morris at the scene included Oregon, Polo, Leaf River, Byron, Stillman Valley, Dixon Rural, and Rochelle. Forreston & German Valley Fire covered the Mt. Morris Firehouse and handled other calls for the Mt.

County, there will be four events hosted, which take place in Byron, Polo, Oregon, Rochelle, and Ogle County will host their event within Byron. Bring your family. Bring your friends. That kid down the street that hangs out with your kid(s) - bring him or her too. This event is for all. The events will focus on public safety agencies having their equipment on display, as well as having activities and games for all. Our local fire departments will also be joining us to showcase their services

and equipment. Our departments look forward to a wonderful night out of getting to know you more and an evening of fun for all. Below is a listing of the events in each of our communities: • Polo: 5-8 p.m. in the 100 block of West Colden Street, • Oregon: 5-7 p.m. at the Oregon Coliseum (Fourth and Franklin Streets), • Rochelle: 5-8 p.m. in Atwood Park. (Rain date of Aug. 8), • Ogle County and Byron: 5–7:30 p.m. (100 Block of Washington Street near

Softball Tournament, Lions Cheese Sales, Sauerkraut Lunch, and the Lion’s Pork Chop Dinner. The Forreston Firemen’s Association will sponsor water fights. The fun starts at 10 a.m. for the kids and noon for area firefighters. Face painting is planned from 1 to 4 p.m., and the Lion’s Pork Chop Dinner will start at 4 p.m. at Memorial Park. JJ & BO will be on the stage in the beer garden from 4 to 7 p.m. Back Country Roads will take over at 8 p.m. in the beer garden. Also at 8 p.m. is a new event for the kids — Kids After Dark at the grade school. Finally, on Sunday a Community Breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at the fire station, and the Community Church Service is at 9:30 a.m. at Memorial Park. The Lion’s Club is sponsoring a blood drive from 8 to 11 a.m. The final event for the weekend is the parade. The theme is Small Town, Big Pride. The Forreston community welcomes visitors and residents alike this weekend to its annual Sauerkraut Days celebration. “The weekend festivities are a combined effort of the Hometown Days Committee and the American Legion Families,” said committee member Jane Koeller. “The combined effort guarantees a fun weekend for all.” The weekend kicks off on Friday, Aug. 2 with a beer garden opening at 6 p.m. and DJ Tyler providing the music until 11 p.m. The second annual Kraut Kids 1 Mile Fun Run starts at 6:30 p.m. and the 5K Fun Run/Walk is at 7:30. Both races will start and end at Memorial Park. Registration forms for the races can be picked up at Green’s Motors or Koeller Forreston Hardware. Bingo is back this year and the fun begins at 6 p.m. Capping off Friday night is a Movie in the Park. Sterling woman charged in car theft in Polo A Sterling woman was charged last week in a car theft that took place in Polo earlier this year. Polo Police Chief Jon Mandrell said Samantha J. Sliger, 29, was arrested July 18 for identity theft, a Class 1 felony, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony, and theft, a Class 2 felony. According to a press release issued by Mandrell, Polo police were called to Haldane Custom, a car dealership and auto body shop at the corner of Division Avenue and Oregon

Street, on March 5 at 4:20 p.m. for a report of a vehicle that had been taken for a test drive by a female subject, but not returned. Police also determined that the driver had provided a falsified form of identification to employees at the dealership.

“Throughout the course of the investigation and working with multiple other law enforcement agencies, Sliger was developed as a person of interest in the case,” Mandrell said in the press release. The vehicle was recovered after being located in Dixon by the Dixon Police Department, where further evidence was obtained. Sliger was taken into custody at the Whiteside County Jail, where she is being held on $40,000 bond in a Whiteside County case, with multiple holds in the other jurisdictions.

BRIEFS Grace Valley Christian Church to host corn boil on July 27 Grace Valley Christian Reformed Church will host its annual corn boil on Saturday, July 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. in air-conditioned comfort at 8210 E. Edwardsville Rd., northeast of German Valley. The menu will include corn on the cob, brats, hot dogs, chips, drinks, and desserts. No fee will be charged for the food or evening activities, but free will donations will be accepted. The proceeds will be used to help a local family with medical bills.

Audience of One to perform at Prairie Dell on July 28 Audience of One will perform on Sunday, July 28 during the 10 a.m. worship service at Prairie Dell Church, 16031 W. Coffman Rd., Shannon. The program is called “Always True”. The community is invited to attend.

St. James to hold ice cream social on July 28 The annual ice cream social at St. James Lutheran Church will be held on Sunday, July 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. on the lawn of the church, which is located at the intersection of West Grove and Columbine Roads four miles southeast of Forreston. In case of rain, the social will be held in the fellowship hall. Barbecues, hot dogs, pie, cake, beverages, and all varieties of ice cream desserts will be on the menu. A band concert will be presented at 7 p.m. on the church lawn.

Proceeds from the event will be used for the yearly adoption fee for the church’s adopted child in India, plus other local charitable projects. The St. James congregation invites the community to this annual gathering.

The Forrestville Valley School District office is currently accepting completed registration packets for the 2019-20 school year. The packets and fees may be dropped off or mailed until Tuesday, July 30. The forms are available online on the district website, http://www. fvdistrict221.org/. The online portion of registra-

tion must be completed by July 30. Remember to hit “complete” in the middle of the screen at the end of all of the steps. School computers will be available in the district office until July 30 and during Walk-In Registration on Aug. 1 to anyone who has not yet completed the online portion of registration. July 30 to register a child for the 20192020 school year. SSET drive for school supplies continues till Aug. 6 “This is the 16th year that we will make new supplies a reality for kids. This is also the 16th year that we are asking for your help,” said organizer Jane Koeller. Collection bins will be located at the Bertolet Memorial Library in Leaf River, the German American Bank in German Valley, Koeller Forreston Hardware and the Forreston Public Library in Forreston. The supplies will be collected

through Tuesday, Aug. 6. All supplies are welcome, but the greatest need is for the following items: spiral notebooks, two-pocket folders, loose-leaf notebook paper, glue, colored pencils, crayons, and markers. New and gently used backpacks will also be accepted. The supplies will be distributed to any family, in the Forrestville Valley School District, that quali-

Starkey is a 2013 graduate of Oregon High School and a 2018 graduate of Illinois State University. There she participated in both French horn and flute studios while receiving a degree in Music Therapy. Becoming involved in music at the age of 7, Ryan’s first instrument was the flute. She has become proficient on other instruments over the years, including the French horn and saxophone. Starkey will perform the flute solo, Czardas by Vitona Monti. Vancko, a long-time member of the band, will perform a tuba solo. Having a long performance history with numerous local bands, he has also played with the East Bank Commanders, Kishwaukee Valley Band, and the Rock Valley College Concert Band.

Vancko also plays stand-up bass with the Well Strung and End of the Road bands. The Kable Concert Band thanks the community for its excellent support, and looks forward to 2020 for its 124th season. The band performs every Wednesday evening in June and July.

Nicholas Meives-Wylie earns Eagle Scout Award

Nicholas Meives-Wylie

Nicholas Meives-Wylie, of Oregon, was honored by Boy Scout Troop 52 at an Eagle Court of Honor Ceremony on July 15 at the First Presbyterian Church of Oregon. Nick completed the requirements for the rank of Eagle Scout and passed a board of review on June 11. Nick started his Scouting career with Cub Scout Pack 81 in Oregon and graduated to Boy Scout Troop 52 on March 1, 2015. As a Boy Scout he attended summer camps at Camp Lowden near Oregon for five years where he earned many of his merit badges. He earned the following 21 merit badges to become an Eagle Scout: camping, citizenship in the community, citizenship in the nation, citizenship in the world, communications, cooking, lifesaving, environmental science, first aid, swimming, personal management, personal fitness, family life, fingerprinting, Indian Lore, salesmanship, railroading, animal science, leatherwork, weather, and game design. To date he has earned a total of 36 merit badges and received a bronze palm, a gold palm, and a silver palm for the additional 15 badges beyond

those required for the Eagle Rank. Nick’s Eagle project involved organizing members of his troop and friends to improve the outside appearance of the historic Chana School Museum in Oregon, during the spring of 2019. This took 115 hours of work doing pressure washing of the brick walkway, cleaning out the planting areas, and spreading 10 yards of new mulch. Nick has traveled with Troop 52 on four week-long summer trips for bicycling, camping, canoeing, fishing, and white water rafting.

He attended a six-day Junior Leader Training- NYLT, and many campouts in tents, cabins, and caves. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow, an honor camper society of the Boy Scouts of America. His leadership skills have been demonstrated in the positions of scribe, quartermaster, and assistant senior patrol leader. He has participated in cross country and track at Oregon High School. Boy Scout Troop 52 is sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Oregon.

Shindig to perform Aug. 2 Mt. Morris Jamboree

The Mt. Morris Jamboree will welcome back the 60s tribute band Shindig on Friday, Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. at the Reckmeyer Band Shell in downtown Mt. Morris. “Shindig presents a tribute to the 60s and always delivers a trip back to the greatest and most diverse decade of rock and roll music,” said event organizer Larry Ubben. “Covering over 90 different bands from that period of time where music told the story of an entire generation - early 60s, British Invasion, Psychedelic, pop, girl groups, Woodstock...are all part of the show.” Tom Rychter and Tom Benson play guitars and sing, John Murphy plays bass, Sharman Strode sings, and Mark Lega plays drums and sings. “Everyone fortunate to see their performance here last year will readily attest to the excitement this band brings to the stage,” Ubben said. Senior Miss team wraps up season with Stockton BY LARRY LOOMIS The 2019 season wrapped up here July 8 as Polo’s Senior Miss team hosted Stockton in a double header. In game one, Stockton scored early and often to best Polo 16-1 in just three innings. Polo was in the game for the first two innings as they trailed by only a 5-1 score after two. After surrendering three runs in the top of the first, the hometown ladies got on the board with their only run of the game in the bottom of the inning. Raylee Katner drew a one out walk, stole second, and went to third on a walk to Lindee Poper. Katner then scored on a single by Karlea Frey to close to 3-1 after one.

Stockton scored a pair of runs in the top of the second on a couple of hit batsmen and a big triple to see the visitors go up 5-1. Polo could get nothing done in the bottom of the inning and then collapsed in the top of the third as Stockton plated eleven runners on several base on balls, a hit batsmen, three singles, and a triple to bolt to a 16-1 lead. That lead proved to be insurmountable as Polo could get nothing going in the bottom of the inning. Lindee Poper’s single was all the ladies could muster in their last turn at bat as Polo went down under the 15 run rule. For the game, Polo managed a paltry three singles from not only Poper but Karlea Frey and Jasmine

Ludwig. Stockton had seven hits for the evening. Game two was not much better for Polo as they fell under the 10 run rule in four innings by a score of 11-1. Taylor Turnow’s third inning single was the only hit Polo could muster. Polo’s run came via three walks and an infield out in the last inning of play. Stockton got things going in the bottom of the first as they were the home team in the nightcap. The visitors’ first two batters reached on walks and then a single and an error led to the Stockton taking a 3-0 lead. Things went downhill for Polo from there as the guests added a four spot in the second.

A pair of singles, and error and a triple found the visitors upping their lead to 7-0 after two. Following a scoreless third, Stockton administered the coup de grace in the bottom of the fourth with four more runs to win under the 10 run rule. Stockton scored all of their runs without benefit of a hit. Three runs scored because of hit batsmen and stolen bases. For the game, Stockton had four hits, seven walks and four hit batsmen. Polo had just Turnow’s single. Ali Danekas took the loss. With the loss, the season came to an end for Polo’s Senior Miss team.

hen a self-proclaimed city girl – and the state’s lieutenant governor – wanted to learn more about Illinois’ leading industry, she sought out experts in the field. And some of those fields were in Whiteside County. During a recent visit to the county, Lt. Gov. Juliana Stratton found herself behind the wheel of a John Deere tractor, part of her goal learning about agriculture through first-hand experiences with farmers and other members of the ag community. Stratton made several stops in Whiteside County on April 29 as part of her “Lieutenant Governor on the Move” series. “The best way for this city girl to learn about Illinois agriculture is to spend time with the experts: Illinois farmers,” she said. Her visit included Rock River Lumber and Grain Co. in Sterling as well as Sandrock Farms and Sauk Valley Angus near Rock Falls. Stratton learned the interworkings behind shipping grain and its reach on a global scale. She spoke with Whiteside County Farm Bureau

Biographies: a good way to read to learn

There are two categories we consider when talking about the purposes for reading. One is reading for enjoyment and entertainment. The other is reading to learn. We’ll explore reading to learn for the next few columns. In today’s classrooms there is a greater emphasis on reading nonfiction or informational text. Part of the reason is that most of the real-world reading we all do on a daily basis falls into this category. It is also generally considered to be more difficult to read because it is usually packed with information, details, and technical vocabulary. For these reasons we want to be sure our children and grandchildren have experiences with all kinds of informational text. Biographies and autobiographies fall into the informational text category. I distinctly remember discovering the biography aisle in the Ida Public Library in Belvidere when I was in fourth grade. I’m quite

I’m also pretty sure they weren’t such high quality and maybe not reliably accurate, but they somehow appealed to me at that time. Today’s selection of biographies for all ages is high quality, well-researched, and covers people from all walks of life. The illustrations are photographs or beautiful and appealing paintings and drawings. No matter your child’s interests, you are sure to find biographies of key people related to that interest. It might be fun to look through the biographies in the children’s section of your public library or a favorite book store with your grandchildren or children. You will find well-known people from many fields including presidents, politicians, athletes

from all sports, inventors, medical professionals, discoverers, artists, authors, and musicians. There are women and men from many nationalities and countries. One popular newer series is the Who Is? Who Was? books. They are around 100 page paperbacks with ninety-some titles and are readily available at bookstores and perhaps libraries as well. Sometimes you might find a biography of someone whose career took a negative turn. This allows you to have a conversation about that and gives your children an opportunity to be critical readers. Does this book fairly present the person? Does it talk at all about the person’s problems? Why do you think it does or doesn’t? If you’re interested in reading to learn and are interested in learning about the lives of famous people, biographies are for you! Make it a goal to read at least one this summer.

The Oregon Ganymedes Vintage Base Ball Club will play their final home game of the 2019 season on Sunday, July 28 at 1 p.m. at the Chana School Museum lawn located at Oregon Park East, 201 North River Road in Oregon. The hometown Ganymedes will play the Chicago Salmon Base Ball Club in a nine inning match featuring the 1858 rules of the game of base ball. Admission is free. “Spectators should bring their own lawn chairs and blankets to sit under the shade trees of Iron Chest Field to enjoy an afternoon of historic base ball and see how America’s Pastime was meant to be played,” said Mark Herman, manager. The Oregon Ganymedes Base Ball Club is celebrating their 15th year of playing vintage rules base ball. The Ganymedes are a volunteer outreach program of the Chana School Museum and play other vintage clubs from all over the Midwest by the early rules of base ball. On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10 -11 the team will play at the World Tournament of Historic Base Ball versus 11 other Vintage Base Ball Clubs from Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and beyond at The Henry Ford Museum Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Michigan.

John Deere Historic Site to host Green Iron Days Dozens of vintage John Deere two-cylinder tractors will be on display for public viewing during theÂ 2019 Green Iron DaysÂ at the John Deere Historic Site, Aug. 2-4. During the three-day gathering, guests to the Historic Site in Grand Detour, will enjoy seeing rare and restored John Deere machines, as well as some related brands. Virus is detected in pools near Rochelle, Monroe Center The Ogle County Health Department recently confirmed two more mosquito pools positive for West Nile virus. A pool of mosquitoes found near Rochelle and another separate mosquito pool collected in Monroe Center tested positive for WNV on July 16. A previously confirmed positive mosquito pool was found near Polo in June. With three separate mosquito pools from three different locations throughout the county being confirmed as positive, it is imperative to be alert and take protective measures against WNV. Health department personnel will continue surveillance and testing mosquito pools from across the

county, as well as conducting mosquito abatement and working with local municipalities on mosquito abatement methods such as applying larvicide. Monitoring for WNV in Illinois includes laboratory tests for mosquito batches, dead crows, blue jays, robins and other perching birds, as well as testing humans with WNVlike symptoms. People who observe a sick or dying crow, blue jay, robin or other perching bird should contact their local health department, which will determine if the bird will be picked up for testing. WNV is transmitted through the bite of a culex mosquito, commonly called a house mosquito, which has picked up the virus by feeding on an infected bird. Common symptoms include fever,

nausea, headache, and muscle aches. Symptoms may last from a few days to a few weeks. However, four out of five people infected with WNV will not show any symptoms. In rare cases, severe illness including meningitis or encephalitis, or even death, can occur. People older than 50 and individuals with weakened immune systems are at higher risk for severe illness. Precautions include practicing the three “R’s” – reduce, repel, and report. Reduce - make sure doors and windows have tight-fitting screens. Repair or replace screens that have tears or other openings. Try to keep doors and windows shut. Eliminate, or refresh each week, all sources of standing water where mosquitoes can breed, including

water in bird baths, ponds, flowerpots, wading pools, old tires, and any other containers. Repel - when outdoors, wear shoes and socks, long pants and a longsleeved shirt, and apply insect repellent that contains DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, or IR 3535 according to label instructions. Consult a physician before using repellents on infants. Report – report locations where you see water sitting stagnant for more than a week such as roadside ditches, flooded yards, and similar locations that may produce mosquitoes. The local health department or municipal government may be able to add larvicide to the water, which will kill any mosquito eggs. To learn more about WNV and other mosquito-borne diseases and prevention methods, consult the Illinois Department of Public Health website or contact the IDPH WNV hotline at 866-369-9710 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

4-H Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction is set for Aug. 3 The Annual 4-H Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at the Ogle County Fair at the fairgrounds west of Oregon. The 4-H Auction Committee invites the public to support 4-H project work by bidding on a quality 4-H animal. The auction will start at 3 p.m. in the Swine Barn. It will feature 4-H market hogs, lambs, beef animals,

goats, poultry, and rabbits as well as the champion and reserve champion beef, swine, lamb, and goat carcasses. Live animals may be purchased and sent to a locker or may be bought and resold at a slaughterhouse. Slaughterhouse buyers will be attending. Transportation to processing plants will be provided. Waste Reduction & Recycling Grants. implement food waste recycling programs. Schools may seek funds for special projects that will further a student’s understanding of how to reduce the amount of trash sent to the landfill. The requests may be for materials and equipment, such as recycling bins/carts, videos, books, worm (vermicomposting) bins, composters, or other waste reduction equipment. Municipalities or haulers seeking to improve commercial, curbside, or multifamily recycling programs are encouraged to apply. Grant applications for equipment and materials needed to improve electronics recycling options in Ogle County are also encouraged. These examples are not all inclusive,

and applicants are encouraged to find innovative ways to reduce waste and increase what is recycled. The grants may not be used to pay for ongoing expenses such as staffing, collection, and hauling costs. Priority will be given to new applicants. All applications will be reviewed by the Ogle County Solid Waste Management Department and the Ogle County Board Solid Waste Committee. Grants will be evaluated based on the following criteria: management ability, project quality, project impact, realistic goals and expectations, accuracy of application, education potential, use of recycled content products when available, potential for waste stream diversion, and future continuity of project. In 2017, Ogle County residents,

businesses, and other entities recycled approximately 31 percent of the municipal waste generated. This recycling rate is due to the efforts of many individuals doing their part to reduce waste and recycle as much as possible at home, work and school. The OCSWMD urges businesses and other organizations to strive to find new ways to increase what gets recycled in the County. These grants can help make that possible. will remember his special sense of humor, his strong moral character, and his devotion to his wife Carol. OGLE COUNTY SHERIFF Ogle County Sheriff Brian VanVickle reports the following arrests. July 16 Jessica E. Myers, 30, of Polo, was arrested for disorderly conduct on July 17 at 10:47 a.m. in the 100 block of East Mason Street in Polo after a incident that occurred the evening before. Deputies had responded on July 16 at 9:09 p.m. to a disturbance at 15184 W. Illinois 72, but while they were en route, Myers, the offender, left the area. She was transported to the Ogle County Jail where she was held in lieu of bond. Deputies responded at 7 a.m. to a one-vehicle roll-over crash in the 6,400 block of South Illinois 2. A northbound car being driven by Tahwnee Spencer, 27, of Rock Falls, had a mechanical failure in its steering. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest in the roadway. Spencer was transported to KSB Hospital, Dixon, for minor injuries suffered in the crash. July 17 Deputies conducted an investigation at 9:35 a.m. at a residence in Davis Junction.

The suspect of the investigation, Jemma J. Atterbury, 32, of Davis Junction, fled from the scene in a vehicle to avoid arrest. Deputies pursued Atterbury for approximately two miles before she stopped her vehicle. She was arrested for aggravated fleeing to elude a peace officer, reckless driving, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and several traffic violations. Atterbury was held at the Ogle County Jail pending a court appearance. Jose Claudio-Ocampo, 39, of Rockford, was arrested for driving while license revoked after a traffic stop at 6:21 p.m. near the intersection of Pecatonica and Montague Roads. He was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond. July 18 Megan Tracy, 37, of Davis Junction, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic stop at 3:27 a.m. at the intersection of Walnut and Main Streets in Stillman Valley. She was also issued a citation for an inoperable rear registration light. She was transported to the Ogle County Jail where she was held in lieu of bond. Jesse Russell, 23, of Rock Falls was

arrested for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop at 10:39 p.m. in the 6,000 block of West Oregon Trail Road. Coffee Jr., 36, of Rockford, was arrested for driving while license suspended after a traffic stop for a registration violation at 2:50 p.m. in the 10,000 block of North Illinois 2. July 20 Alejandro Toledo, 27, of Rochelle, was arrested for driving on an expired drivers license, more than one year, after a traffic stop for a registration violation at 10:30 a.m. in the 8,000 block East Flagg Road. July 21 Shawn Skinner, 24, of Sterling, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after a two-vehicle crash without injuries at 1:54 a.m. in the 7,000 block of N. Illinois 251. July 23 Brody Stone, 19, of Oregon, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and consumption of alcohol as a minor after a traffic stop at 2 a.m. at the intersection of West Illinois 64 and Everett Street in Mt. Morris. Stone was also issued citations for an inoperable rear registration light and improper display of registration. He was transported to the Ogle County Jail where he was held in lieu of bond.

Illinois State Police District 1 Commander Captain Matthew Hodgdon, has announced District 1 enforcement figures and activity for June. The district encompasses Carroll, Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside Counties. Troopers issued 402 citations, 541 written warnings, and made 10 criminal arrests. Speeding accounted for 210 citations, 50 citations were issued for occupant restraint violations, seven citations were issued for distracted driving violations and 12 citations for move over violations were issued. Troopers investigated 22 traffic crashes, assisted 91 motorists, and conducted 165 commercial vehicle inspections, 15 of which were placed out-of-service for safety reasons. Seven people were arrested for driving under the influence. District 1 had no traffic crash fatalities
