Last year: 3-20 overall, eighth place in the Rolling Hills Conference. Seniors lost: Morgan James (10.8 ppg), Gabby Jenkins (10 rpg). Primetime events Compiled is a list of some of the most anticipated winter sports competitions in the area. • Lenox vs. East Union boys basketball, 7:45 p.m. on Dec. 13, Afton — Father meets son for the first time as opposing coaches in this Pride of Iowa Conference matchup. Steve Tussey, in his first year as Jesse Cox’s co-coach in Lenox, takes on first-year East Union coach Thad Tussey. • Nodaway Valley vs. Mount Ayr girls basketball, 6:15 p.m. on Dec. 17, Greenfield — A key early-season Pride of Iowa Conference game pitting two teams that feature excellent young talent. Both teams have started 2-0 in the POI. • Nodaway Valley vs. Interstate 35 girls and boys basketball, 6:15 p.m. (girls) and 8 p.m. (boys) on Jan. 17, Greenfield — The girls game features two teams that

blend experience in the backcourt with youthfulness in the post. The boys game features the top two teams from the Pride of Iowa Conference last year, and two teams that most people expect to contend for the league crown this year. • Panther Tournament bowling, 1 p.m. on Jan. 18, Creston — All the top teams in the area (Creston/O-M, Central Decatur, Nodaway Valley, Mount Ayr and Lenox) will meet in one place and battle it out for bragging rights. • John J. Harris Invitational wrestling, 4 p.m. on Jan. 24 and 10 a.m. on Jan. 25, Corning — Many of the top wrestlers from southwest Iowa will converge on Corning in one of the area’s best tournaments. • Bluegrass Conference Tournament boys basketball, Jan. 25-31 — With any luck at all, fans will be treated to a

rematch between the Murray and Diagonal boys. Murray won the only scheduled meeting between the two teams 62-60 on Dec. 6, despite Diagonal finishing the game with three players on the floor. • Creston vs. Kuemper Catholic boys basketball, 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 28, Creston — The two teams will have already met once in the 2013-14 season, but this game counts in the Hawkeye 10 Conference standings. This game could have a big effect on the conference standings. • Lenox vs. East Union boys basketball, 7:45 p.m. on Jan. 28, Lenox — Tussey vs. Tussey Episode II. • Creston vs. Harlan boys basketball, 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 18, Creston — The Panthers also get to host Harlan in the game that counts for the Hawkeye 10 Conference standings, this time in the regular season finale.
