Mr. and Mrs. John Cramer will celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary Aug. 16, 2016. Ruth Elaine Mueller and John William Cramer were married Aug. 16, 1941, at First United Methodist Church in Dixon, by the Rev. Floyd Blewfield. John was a foreman making army combat boots at Freeman Shoe Corp.
until being drafted in the Army and sent to Saipan, and then into the invasion of Okinawa until the end of the war. While there, he was awarded two Bronze Stars with the “V” service. John returned to Freeman’s ,spending 25 years there. John then spent 41 years in sales for Marshall Salon services. Elaine was a floral designer working
20-plus years at Cooks Flowers and Gifts. Elaine also has spent hours working toward the restoration and preservation of Sugar Grove Church and School. They are the parents of two children, John Jr. of Herrin and Carol Sue Rocheleau of Chicago. They have one grandson and two step-grandchildren in southern Illinois.
70th Anniversary
Mr. & Mrs. Bill Adams 70th Anniversary Bill and Nell (Hill) Adams of Sterling will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Aug. 3, 2016. Bill and Nell were married Aug. 3, 1946, on Nell’s 21st birthday at her grandparents’ home at 400 Second Ave., in Rock Falls. They were high school classmates, graduating in 1943 from the old Sterling High School that stood where the Maple Pancake House is now. After graduation, Nell worked in the SHS office as secretary to Principal Roscoe Eades. Bill joined the Marines during World War II, serving in the South Pacific.
Years later, Nell worked for Dr. Tim Sullivan and Dr. James McGee Eye Clinic for 24 years. Bill was in the oil business for 41 years. They live at 701 W. 11th St., where they have for 63 years. They have one daughter, Cathy Garland, who lives two doors away. They have two grandchildren, Nicole (Garland) Briar (husband, Larry), who have two daughters, Morgan, 13, and Taylor, 11, and they live in St. Charles; and grandson, Ryan Garland (wife, Brittany), who have 5-year-old twin daughters, Emma and Amelia, and they live in Plainfield.
Several mini celebration trips will be taken during the year. So far, a trip to Hawaii was taken in February with their daughter. June was spent in southern Illinois at their son’s home. Several trips also were taken from that area. A family breakfast is planned at the Pines in August. Their home address is 1982 Sugar Grove Road, Dixon, IL 61021.

60th Anniversary Mr. & Mrs. Bob Knicl of Dixon celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary July 22, 2016 Bob Knicl and Lorraine Heilener were married July 22, 1956, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sterling, with the Rev. Carl Kalkwarf, pastor, and Carl Becker, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran in Cedarburg, Wisconsin, officiating. The Rev. Ray Heilener, brother of the bride, was soloist. Betty (Deets) Sulouff, Ted Sulouff, Susan (George) Kuehl, Carolyn (George) Reppe, and Alan George were attendants. Robert spent his working years as employee and owner of Knicl Refrigeration from 1951 until retiring in 2007. He also served as an auxiliary deputy sheriff of Lee County for 50 years. Lorraine was secretary at Dixon High School
and Jefferson School until 1980, office manager of Heritage Square until 2003, and continues there as a part-time receptionist. Bob and Lorraine are the parents of three children, Julie (Knicl) Wermers of Dixon, Norman (Leslie) Knicl of Mahomet; and Larry (Joy) Knicl of Macomb. He received his master’s degree in network and communication management at Keller Graduate School of Management – a division of the College of Engineering and Confirmation Sciences. Keller is a graduate school of DeVry University in Chicago. Jeffrey graduated with distinction and received gold honor cords to represent his academic honor for a high GPA in the master’s degree. Reunions Spencer-Benham Reunion The 120th consecutive SpencerBenham reunion was June 26, 2016, at Old Mill Park in Savanna. The gathering began with the Pledge of Allegiance and “God Bless America.” Lois Jacobs was the oldest member present. She presented the baby spoon to the youngest member, Greyson Williams, born June 2016. Ron Spencer of Stover, Missouri, and Amber Melton of Spooner, Wisconsin, traveled the farthest. The officers elected were Mark Spencer
of Rock Falls, president; Daniel Witt of Mount Prospect, vice president; Lois Jacobs of Rock Falls, treasurer; Vada Waites of Galena, secretary-historian; Cheryl Scykes of Rock Falls, assistant historian; Pat Wurster and Bonnie Ayala, both of Thomson, in charge of raffle tables and cake walk. Witt led the children’s games. A raffle, cake walk, and potluck dinner also took place. The next reunion will be June 25, 2017, at the park.
