CLARKE COUNTY ROAD FOREMAN Notice is hereby given that Clarke County is accepting applications from individuals with the qualifications for the position of Clarke County Road Foreman(Maintenance Supervisor).
Applications must be submitted on the application forms provided by the Clarke County Engineer to: Clarke County Courthouse; 100 South Main Street; Osceola, Iowa 50213, no later than 4:00 P.M.C.S.T. on Friday, November 15, 2013. This position is a salaried position, with the responsibility of supervising the Clarke County Secondary Road Department; and directing the efforts of the Clarke County Secondary Road Department staff and equipment, as directed by the Clarke County Engineer. The Clarke County Road Foreman is “on-call”twenty-four(24) hours a day for emergency situations and winter road maintenance operations. Applications will be accepted only from candidates having a high school diploma, or its equivalent. The successful applicant will have to take a post offer pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol test. The applicant selected will be on probation for six(6) months. The successful candidate must live or be willing to re-locate within three(3) months to within a thirty(30) minute response time to the Clarke County Engineer’s Office; or be located within or relocate to Clarke County. Clarke County will award this job to the applicant deemed the most qualified for the job. Preference will be given to applicants having a Class “A”Commercial Drivers License(CDL); having experience and/or education in the engineering and construction fields; having demonstrated excellent communication, supervisory, and human relation skills; having demonstrated abilities to work in a safe, professional, efficient manner; and having demonstrated experience working with the public in a safe, courteous, and efficient manner. CHALLENGE GRANT OPPORTUNITY!
Iowa Main Street communities, including Osceola, are eligible for the Main Street Challenge Grant funds. Eligible projects must be within our downtown project area and only members of Osceola Chamber Main Street are eligible to apply. Only Osceola Chamber Main Street may submit applications on behalf of local projects, properties and businesses. Awards will be dispersed to chosen beneficiaries by Osceola Chamber Main Street. Projects that will be considered can include building rehabilitations, facade improvements, new construction, or reuse projects. Plans will be locally judged on preservation standards, architectural significance, ability to be completed within the time frame, ability to secure a dollar for dollar match, and impact on the community. These projects will need to follow the Iowa GreenStreets standards. Note: If a property is listed or deemed eligible for the National Register of Historic Places or part of a National Register District, the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation must be followed. The maximum dollar amount to be awarded will be $75,000 with a minimum award of $15,000 per project. A 100-percent, dollar-for-dollar, cash match is required. Other federal or state grant program awards may NOT be used to satisfy the cash match for the project/property. Osceola Chamber Main Street may apply on behalf of one project/property. The match requirement may include necessary project costs for professional service, i.e. architectural or engineering studies. If this is part of an on-going project, no money already expended can be counted as match. Osceola Chamber Main Street is looking for a worthy project in our downtown districts. Interested parties should contact the OCMS office at 641-342-4200 for details. A one-page summary of the project should be presented to OCMS by Friday, October 4th. From these nominations, one will be selected by a committee of the OCMS Board of Directors. A finalist will be chosen based on meeting the above standards the best. Once chosen OCMS will work with the finalist to submit a full proposal and application to the Iowa Department of Economic Development by November 1, 2013. Please note: No deadline extensions can or will be allowed in this year’s nomination process, and Osceola is not guaranteed funding in this round of the program. Circulation clerk -Receptionist to work in the front office. This is a 25-hour per week position in our Osceola, Iowa office. Responsibilities of the position include: daily cash drawer reconciliation and bank deposits, data entry of classified ads, circulation duties, customer service/front desk reception, mail sorting and mail delivery to the local post office. The successful candidate will have a high school diploma, or equivalent, with basic computer skills, valid drivers license and insurance, acceptable driving record and reliable vehicle. Must possess good communication skills, be highly accurate and detail oriented and able to handle a variety of tasks while adhering to daily deadlines. Previous accounting experience preferred. Typical hours are five days per week (M/T/W/T/F); 9 am to 2 pm, 25 hours per work week. The chosen candidate will be subject to pre-employment background, driving record checks and drug screening.
