Welcome to our Winter Season brochure containing details of exciting productions to look forward to. With music, ballet, song, drama and laughter, and of course during December, this year’s professional Panto, Sleeping Beauty, performed as always by Spotlight (IOW) Ltd. Appearing this season Ronnie Scott’s All Stars, Andy Fairweather Low, Lucy Worsley, Ross Noble, Joan Armatrading, 10cc and The Stylistics to name but a few. For classical enthusiasts we have presentations of Carmen and the Nutcracker, both of which are accompanied by a 30 piece orchestra, also Reverie, The Life and Loves of Claude Debussy and Sandown Rotary Club present the London Welsh Male Voice Choir. Also this Autumn there is a Professional Touring Production of Arthur Conan Doyle’s deliciously dark thriller The Nightmare Room. This year the Theatre celebrates its 10th Anniversary after being saved from closure and there is a special show on 2nd October to mark this occasion – See page 9 for details. I hope you will agree that there is something for everyone and we look forward to seeing you soon. The front cover design this time is courtesy of Chris and Rebecca Gardner and David Richardson who are the hidden heroes here at the Theatre attending to all the lighting, sounds, and special effects that help make each and every show very special.

Who is El Hablador? It’s Ross Noble. No, but who is the one they call El Hablador? I just said, it is Ross Noble. You know? Long hair, does stand up. Ross Noble returns to dance around the stage spinning out all the nonsense in his head into a hilarious stand up show. At some point, he may wander into a shadowy part of the stage and look a bit shadowy.

Jimmy Osmond will tour his 70’s Jukebox show in 2018. Queen Victoria: a little old lady, spherical in shape, dressed in black, perpetually grumpy. Right? Historian Lucy Worsley wants to make you think again. Meet a complex, contradictory woman, who had a traumatic childhood, who loved dancing, who suffered calamity and bereavement, before coming out the other side as an eccentric, powerful and really rather magnificent old lady. Lucy’s illustrated talk takes you into the life, the palaces, and the rich colourful age of this woman who ruled a quarter of the globe.

As the very first UK female singer/songwriter to gain international success Joan Armatrading has spent the last 45 years touring and recording. 2018 brings Joan into her 46th year in music and only the second time that she will be performing a tour completely solo. Joan has written and recorded new music for this tour and will be singing many of those songs, but not to worry, your favourite classics from the past will be included. So get ready for your evening with Joan Armatrading.

The Russian State Opera Presents Carmen – the most powerful, enjoyable and tuneful opera. Music by Georges Bizet. Featuring an impressive cast and accompanied by a live Orchestra with over 30 musicians The Opera tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier who is seduced by Carmen, a seductive, free-spirited femme fatale. José abandons his childhood sweetheart and deserts from his military duties, yet loses Carmen’s love to the glamorous toreador Escamillo. The music of Carmen has been widely acclaimed for its brilliance of melody, harmony, atmosphere and orchestration, and for the skill with which Bizet represented, musically, the emotions and suffering of his characters. Love, treachery, passion and betrayal, Carmen has it all.

When Helen regains consciousness, she finds herself bound and blindfolded in a locked room. Her captor, best friend Catherine, challenges her to a deadly game of Russian roulette to decide which of them will win the handsome film star they both desire. But the game – like the room – is far from what it seems ...

Henry VIII invented the idea of British uniqueness; in fact, the Reformation could be defined as the first Brexit, when his ministers devised the doctrine of parliamentary sovereignty. In this talk David Starkey examines Henry VIII’s tumultuous personal life, which pitted religion against politics as brutally as in our own age of Isis, through to the Grand Tourists who bought European culture with British money, all offering so very many parallels with the Brexit situation we find ourselves in today.

The Original Hitman – Music mogul Peter Waterman OBE live in conversation. Waterman is set to reveal never before heard stories behind some of the greatest songs and artists of the 80’s and 90’s. Pete Waterman OBE, will take centre stage and talk about his fascinating career, love of music, stories behind some of the biggest artists and songs in the world that he has been involved with, his love of railways and his involvement in the great British railway.

In 2000, Gary Mullen won ITV’s “Stars In Their Eyes” Live Grand Final, with the largest number of votes ever received in the shows history. The record of 864,838 votes was more than twice that of the runner-up. Gary began touring on his own and in 2002 formed a band ‘The Works’, to pay tribute to rock legends Queen. He’s back! It’s been a busy few years for Jason since his last smash-hit stand up show but fans of his Absolute Radio show will know this nationally acclaimed comedian hasn’t changed a bit. ‘Muddle Class’ promises to feature a wealth of new material about Jason growing up ‘working class’ then finding, over the years, that part of him has become ‘middle class’ - causing much confusion! Delivered with Jason’s amiable charm and captivating wit, this is a show not to be missed.

Just as the name Osmond is synonymous with music, they are also known for their TV Christmas Specials since the early 70s. Performing songs from a career spanning over 6 decades, join Merrill & Jay Osmond for a Rockin’ Christmas show that will get you out of your seats! A show that you can bring the whole family to. The Osmonds are still as active now as they ever were and still fronted by Merrill and Jay.

Normally no exchange of tickets is permitted but where it may be possible there will be a charge of £2 per ticket. Original tickets must be returned at time of exchange. Lost tickets are subject to a charge of £2 per ticket. Please ensure when purchasing tickets you have the correct Performance, Date and Time selected before completing the transaction. GENERAL The management reserves the right to: A) refuse admission of the ticket holder to the premises. B) refuse entry of and use on the premises of any camera or any form of audio or visual recording equipment. C) request the ticket holder to leave the premises and to take any appropriate measure to enforce such request. D) delay latecomers until a suitable break or interval in the performance/event. Re-admission is not normally permitted during a performance. E) make any changes whatsoever in the performance/ event owing to any unforseen or unavoidable cause. F) cancel or abandon the performance/event for reasons beyond its control without notice and without being liable to pay any person any compensation or damage whatsoever other than, at the managements discretion, a possible percentage or maximum refund to the ticket holder of the value of the ticket.
