The main challenge: shortage of space
In a room that has an area of about 12 to 16 sqm, every unit of space is of great importance. In a «Rectangular Room», the space one can use is mostly dependant to the ground. The increasing of height leads to less usability. Simply because those spaces close to the ceilng are hard to reach.
How can we make use of the whole space we have? Well apparently, while human kind is unable to jump high up to the unreachable space, the space should be able to approach humen! We have most of our furnitures stuck to the floor, now. But what if we could rotate the room and possess more than one single floor?
Solution: The Pipe House
A circular space that extrudes along an axis produces a pipe shape. Any furniture and equipment you need is positioned inside the body of the cylinder. Through rotation, you can access the furniture you need. So the furniture that are not needed at the moment are exchanged with the ones you actually need. This results in an optimized usage of space. In a limited space of about 16 sqm it is hard to imagine an ideal living space, but «The Pipe House» can provide most of the ideals you have in mind of a living.
The main structure of «The Pipe House» is a hollow cylinder. Five rings which contain the furniture are placed inside this cylinder. These rings can be rotated, while the cylndrical structure is still. Each ring has its own seperate floor which is fixed and does not rotate with the rings. But they can be opened to provide access to the furniture that are hidden under.

Talking about rotation, it seems that a «Circular Space» is the proper solution where we can utilize the whole capacity of the space! Cylindrical Structure Capping Door Capping Window Section - Part of a “Ribbon” - scale: 1/400 “Public Spaces” are highlighted yellow.
The Linking Live Landscape
«The Pipe Houses» can be just the perfect house you wish for, since they offer a wide range of customization to their inhabitants to live the way they want. Although the units are small, they can contain a lot of equipments and furniture that answer to anyone with their own special characteristics.
To achieve this, an app is designed that allows the inhabitants to customize their houses. At the end of the process the application gives you the specific code of your house. The factory will then constructs and assembles your desired house. The app contanis the following steps:
Step 1: Choosing the Ring Size
Depending on the family size there are 2 options for you to choose. As a couple, the «C type» is the better for you for its greater size, and as a single person, the smaller «S type» is more suitable. But it is totally up to you!
Customization in Slice Selection
Step 2 Slice Selection
«The Pipe House» contains 5 «Rings» and each ring is made up of several prefabricated «Slices». In this step you can pick your prefered slices. The slices are divided in portion to 1/4 1/8 1/16 of the ring s area. On the left you can see the wide variety of options the app provides. You should just pick the codes!
Step 3 Arranging the Slices Step 4: Panelling the Slices
Now it’s time to arrange the cloud of codes you have picked previously in 5 rings. It is completely up to you which functions are best to be neighbors in one ring. At the end of this process you
Next, you are to choose the covering of each slice. Your options are solid panel [s], grilled panel [g], transparent panel [t] or if you want them to be visible all the time, select no panel[n].
Step 5: Rotating vs Fixed?
According to the functions you put together in each ring and your personal preference, you can choose which rings to be rotatable and which not.
Step 6: Floor Adjustment
Sometimes when you choose specific slices, the floor is functionally engaged with that slice. Therefore the floor also needs to be partially customized. For instance, choosing a «shower slice - B2» brings the need for a «grilled floor» with itself, or a «pottery slice - H1» requires a «removable floor».
Step 7: Overall Arrangement
Now that all the rings are customized completely, it is time to arrange the rings in your desired order. This step shows the position of the rings from entrance to the window in order.

The Linking Live Landscape
Example of the Custom Process
A man (Brad), a woman (Katlin) and a couple (Ann & Jack) are about to move in the community. Here is the way they customize their pipe houses using the app.
Structural Concept
Since this community has its unique aggregation system, therefor it needs a specific approach toward its structure. As it's shown below a pre-tensioned cable system can keep the pipes tight together. The cables are anchored to underground concrete foundations located on the water's edge. The idea is originally seen in the old chinese floating bamboo boats and rafts
Brad is an extrovert, so he likes to hold partys at home. He is in love with playing and specifically video games. He also does sports at home and simultaneously watches TV or listens to some music. And after that hard work he likes to take a bath while watching outside the window!
Katlin is an introvert who enjoys spending her time surronded by her books, birds and plants. She is an artist who enjoys making her ideas by a 3d printer. She also loves to paint by the window while the birds are singing.
Ann is a fashion designer. She spends her time designing clothes and sewing them. She needs lots of wardrobe for the clothes she designs. Her husband Jacob is a computer engineer. He enjoys cooking and watching TV in his free time.
Linking Social Life
This community not only is a great place for everyone, (with their own special characteristics) to live in, but also is a linking joint that serves the city! It adds up to the current greenary in the city and fills up the gaps, making the city a more pleasent environment for all the citizens to live in.
The site is located in Fuzhou city, near the Minjiang park. the park is divided into two parts by a branch of Wulong river. The "Linking Live Landscape" is utilized to connect the separated sides with a dynamic landscape. As an additional role there is a complete Co-living community inside this landscape. This community is composed of 1000 pipe houses and among them some public spaces which are actually floating on water. This means that you can have your "Pipe house" touching water from one side and a landscape on the other side!
