Canning Skills Academy click here Overview The Canning Skills Academy at Sevenoaks Senior College offers students an opportunity to engage and connect with education by using a personal learning plan that enables each student to pursue their passion. Students learn through attending work placements and exhibiting and talking about their experiences. Students can design and create a special interest project and reflect on and assess what they have learned. This is the Big Picture learning cycle that connects students to an educational experience that is relevant, enjoyable and interesting. The Canning Skills Academy provides students with opportunities to achieve the 22473VIC Certificate II in General Education for Adults. This is a very useful qualification to have if a student has gaps in their schooling and may not have completed Year 10. This certificate can be a direct pathway to TAFE entry. Students will also have the opportunity to achieve a FSK20119 Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways whilst also building a comprehensive Western Australian Statement of Student Achievement (WASSA); a transcript of their achievements to the end of Year 12.

Advisories Students in the Canning Skills Academy operate in a number of advisories (classes) and are taught by experienced and talented advisors (teachers). Each advisory will provide students with a personalised learning program that allows them to pursue their own special interests whilst achieving a variety of educational outcomes. Each advisory is supported by staff specifically trained to work with young people and assist them to manage their busy and sometimes complex lives; these staff include an Aboriginal teacher, two youth workers, a nurse and two teacher assistants. During advisory time students will participate in a number of master classes where course content and skills will be taught to ensure they can move along their learning continuum. Students will also enjoy opportunities to learn outside of the classroom via excursions, internships or workplace learning.

One Student at a Time Enrolment & Opportunities The Canning Skills Academy is a highly sought after reengagement program that caters for students from across Perth. Enrolment is by interview only. Students may choose to exit after their first year of study, however the program offers students the opportunity to study at the Academy for up to two years (age permitting) and to complete studies at Year 11 level if their progress is acceptable.
