VALMALENCO a unique place for your More than 60 km of slopes make up the ski area of Alpe Pal첫 and Caspoggio, which are the most distinctive feature of Valmalenco. Those wishing to visit Alpe Pal첫 can do so by means of the biggest cable car in the world, called the Snow Eagle, whose cars containing 160 people reach an altitude of 2080 metres in one great leap, onto a terrace overlooking Alpine views of breathtaking beauty. Those who prefer a more gradual approach can drive up the 5 km road which separate Chiesa from San Giuseppe, and than take the new four-seater chair lift up through the beautiful firwoods to Alpe Pal첫. On the opposite slope to Alpe Pal첫 we find Caspoggio, with scope for beginners and families, but also equipped with technical tracks for races and competitions and all-level training. What about the snow? No worries, the snow is at home in Valmalenco, floury and abundant from December to late April, but if it loses its way the modern artificial snow machines are programmed to make up for it. Those who wish to abandon their skis for a while can relax in the sun in comfortable deckchairs or taste the local delicacies of Valmalenco in the refuges along the slopes, whilst the youngsters play in the playgroung of the snow

Snowpark Alpe Valmalenco is also the playground for the most avant-garde and extreme snow sports. A snow-park has been set up in Alpe Pal첫, separated from the traditional slopes, where you can test yourself on snow-board and ski acrobatics, and there is also a special area set aside for the spectacular competitions of boardercross and skicross.

Major Sport Valmalenco is also the perfect place for young riders – their daring acrobatics leave audiences speechless. In fact, for several years now, the month of March has featured rising international stars testing their mettle in snowboarding events. Finally, Valmalenco’s crown jewel: three segments for speed and consistency for fans of Alpine skiing.
In Valmalenco, surrounded by scenary of breathtaking beauty, you can find cross-country tracks and circuits to suit all needs. The natural ski runs of Lake Pal첫, which extends for over 17 kilometres in a splendid sun-filled dell at an altitude of 2000 metres, are flanked by the San Giuseppe circuits, which make up 30 kilometres, and the 7 kilometres of the Lanzada circuit, of which one kilometres has artificial illumination. In San Giuseppe and Lanzada two modern cross-country centers offer accomodation for skiers, whereas at Alpe pal첫 there are many places to eat and relax in the ski-area.

Alpine Skiing
The mountains - especially during the winter - offer a one-of-a-kind experience. A magical ambiance, almost fairy-tale like, that washes over the trekkers with snowshoes or skiers as they encounter expansive, snow-covered clearings dotted with evergreens, frozen Alpine lakes, sleepy little villages and majestic mountain tops. Valmalenco offers all this and much more, including Alpine skiing excursions to the Bernina or Disgrazia mountains’ glaciers that lead trekkers to breath-taking slopes.

CASSANDRA PASS 3097 m
Departure point: Chiareggio 1593 m Altitude: 1504 m Duration: 4,30 hr One of the area’s classic itineraries, though not an overly challenging one. Not to be underestimated, though - a large part takes place on a glacier! The ascent to Pizzo Cassandra requires a minimum of Alpine hiking and skiing skills. BSA

One can ascend from the Largone Alps, pass via Prabello and go down to Campagneda, the head back down along the same trail, or cross through the Campagneda clearing to reach Prabello

PIZZO SCALINO 3323 m
Departure point: Campo Moro 1940 m Altitude: 1383 m (1260 m to the smaller hill) Duration: 4,30 hr A quite popular and well-known itinerary – a classic. The ascent from the ski depot to the peak requires care, but the intrepid will be rewarded with a gorgeous view. BSA
ALPE MUSELLA 2021 m

Having reached the Musella Alps, one can also follow the trail that heads down to Campascio and, passing by the Campolungo ski lift point, head down towards Campo Franscia.
Departure point: Sasso Nero ski lift arrival point 2350 m Altitude: 570 m (1400 m from san Giuseppe) Duration: 1,30 hr (4 hr from San Giuseppe) Making use of the transport structures, the altitude decreases to reach the peak which, at the centre of Valmalenco, offers an extraordinary panorama. BS

Starting point: Bràcia Arrival point: S. Elisabetta Altitude range: 180 m Time: 2 hours This trail runs across pastures. More demanding. Bràcia - Cüràda - Astù - S. Antonio - Prabello - S.Elisabetta Itinerary 1, time: 40 minutes Cüràda bassa, Cornascio, arrival at Cüràda alta. Itinerary 2, time: 40 minutes Loop trail S. Antonio, Tubi Enel, S.Antonio

TRAIL ACROSS THE VALLEYS
Starting point: Bràcia Arrival point: Musni in S. Elisabetta Altitude range: 110 m Time: 50 minutes Easy trail, suitable for adults and children. It is possible to head for Caspoggio by following the former ski slope, until reaching the restaurant Colombo or the starting point of the chair lift.
Departure point: San Giuseppe 1500 m Altitude: 510 m Duration: 1,30 hr An easy itinerary, suitable for families as well. It unfolds along a snowy trail and into an easy-to-navigate path through the woods.
MONTE MOTTA 2336 m
Departure point: San Giuseppe, car park, ski lift 1500 m Altitude: 900 m Duration: 2,30 hr The Valmalenco CAI, in cooperation with the Sondrio CM, has mapped out this wonderful itinerary to reach the summit of the Palù facilities in total safety. MS

Departure point: Chiareggio 1593 m Altitude: 1385 m Duration: 3,30 hr A sun-kissed spot (even in the morning) and the slope that goes down to Chiareggio offers an exhilarating descent. BS

ALPE DELL’ORO 2010 m
Departure point: Chiareggio 1593 m Altitude: 400 m Duration: 1,30 hr A comfortable itinerary on mule tracks. From the Alps, a special view of Disgrazia’s north face.
PASSO di MELLO 2992 m
Departure point: Chiareggio 1593 m Altitude: 1400 m Duration: 4,30 hr Less popular than the Val Ventina, Val Sissone stretches into the heart of the Disgrazia. Reaching the pass requires some Alpine hiking and skiing skills. BSA

THE CATTLE TRAIL
Starting point: S. Antonio Altitude range: 270 m Time: 2 hours Loop trail suitable for well-trained hikers. The trail starts in S. Antonio and then follows the old cattle trail until reaching the shepherds’ hut in “La Ferla”. It finally returns to S. Antonio by following the former ski slope.

TRAIL 5
Starting point: S. Antonio Altitude range: 2.30 hours Trail suitable for well-trained snowshoe hikers. The trail starts in S. Antonio and, by following the old “milk trail”, reaches Motta (approximately 30 minutes) and, after passing Cès Musìn, heads for Piazzo Cavalli (approximately 30 minutes). The trail continues on fresh snow until Dosso dei Galli.

Starting point: Motta Time: 1 hour Nice alternative (on fresh snow) to trail nr. 5. The trail starts in Motta and, after passing by Cès Musìn, heads for the Dagua valley, then goes back until reaching Piazzo Cavalli (Alpine troopers’ Chapel)
Valmalenco Alpine Guides are the best way to go on snow excursions with total peace of mind. Amongst the many winter season offers, there are always planned guided moonlight tours, using snowshoes, as well as fantastic springtime tours of Bernina (4050 m).
