OLG Bazaar to host two day event this Labor Day weekend Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) — The Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Bazaar returns to Seguin this Labor Day weekend. The two-day celebration, which has long been a Labor Day weekend tradition for all of Seguin, returns with live music, food, bingo, a silent auction, family activities, and a chance to win a brand-new vehicle. The annual bazaar will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 5-6, at the Seguin Events Complex. This year’s Chairperson, Felisa
Ramirez, says the response to the event brought back last year was strong, particularly given that it had been away for several years due to COVID. “We did really good financially last year for being gone for six years,” said Ramirez. Ramirez says the best part of serving as chair is that she gets to work with all the various organizations — all of whom are working to raise money for the church. OLG, pg. 3
(Seguin) -- The city of Seguin continues to work toward building its first-ever fire station north of Interstate 10. The areas north of I-10 are some of the fastest-growing in the city, and that’s one of the reasons why the new firehouse is needed. Fire Chief Garrick Herbert provided an update on plans for the project during Tuesday’s meeting of the Seguin City Council. “We really got the foundations for our design down, and now we’re moving into the portion where we begin working with our architect to select our contractor to be able to put pricing to this project and make sure that we stay on track,” said Herbert. Chief Herbert says they’ve spent months working on the designs for the exterior and interior of the building. “We used Martinez Architect, who we selected last year, and they’ve been helping guide us through this design phase. This is just a quick
snapshot,” said Herbert. Herbert says Fire Station No. 4 would be built on land provided as part of the master-planned Walnut Springs Subdivision, located along Rudeloff and Huber roads. He says the project addresses the immediate needs in the area while also making sure there’s room for additional fire service growth in the future. “We are currently looking at three to four apparatus bays, depending on what our budget will allow, in order to not only house what we have today, but as well as equipment storage and expansion into the future. This is currently set up to house eight bedrooms inside of it, and those eight bedrooms are to address our needs today, with a little bit of room for growth.
