Guadalupe County Commissioner announces bid for county judge

(Schertz) -- Guadalupe County Commissioner Pct. 3 Michael Carpenter has officially launched his campaign for the Republican nomination of Guadalupe County Judge. Carpenter publicly made the announcement on Wednesday during the Texas Tri-County Chamber of Commerce’s Elected Officials Gala.

“Guadalupe County is growing fast, and the decisions we make now will shape our future for years to come,” said Carpenter following his announcement. “I’m running for county judge because I believe in this community, and I believe we can continue to protect what makes it special while planning responsibly for the challenges ahead.”

Operation Low Key wraps up with 21 felony arrests in Guadalupe County

Carpenter first entered public service as a Schertz City Councilman. He later served multiple terms as Mayor. He was then elected to the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court in 2020 – replacing longtime Commissioner Jim Wolverton who retired.

According to Carpenter, the gala consisted of community leaders, business owners, and elected officials from across the region — many of whom he has known and worked with for several years.

(Seguin) -- A three monthlong narcotics investigation by the Seguin Police Department has led to 21 felony arrests and 31 felony charges, marking what officials say was a significant strike against drug trafficking operations in Seguin, New Braunfels, and throughout Guadalupe County.

The investigation, dubbed

Operation Low Key, began in July 2025 and was spearheaded by the department’s Criminal Apprehension Street Enforcement (C.A.S.E.) Unit. The operation focused on identifying and targeting low-level drug traffickers distributing methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and THC products in the region.

Wanted McQueeney man caught hiding in trunk

(Cibolo) -- A routine traffic stop in a Walmart parking lot has led to the arrest of a wanted fugitive hiding in the trunk of a car. Officials say on Nov. 14, 2025, a Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled over a vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart on Cibolo Valley Drive. During the stop, they say the deputy developed suspicion of criminal activity and received consent from the driver to conduct a search. While checking the vehicle, the deputy discovered a man attempting to conceal himself inside the trunk.

The individual was identified as Kevin Guzman of McQueeney, who authorities say was actively wanted in two separate jurisdictions. According to the sheriff’s office, Guzman had an outstanding warrant out of Harris County for Indecency with a Child by Exposure and another out of Denton County for Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Registration Requirements.

Deputies also reported that Guzman pleaded with the arresting officer not to notify U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, acknowledging that he was in the country illegally.

Guadalupe County Sheriff Joshua Ray praised the deputy’s actions, saying the arrest reflects the department’s

Bid, continued.

In a press release provided to the Seguin Daily News, it states, “Throughout his career, Carpenter has worked closely with law enforcement, municipal partners, and rural communities to keep county services strong and responsive. Colleagues often describe him as prepared, patient,

ongoing commitment to protecting the community.

“This is another great example of exemplary police work by our deputies. We will continue utilizing every resource available to rid our county of sexual predators. If you choose to hurt children, you will not hide in Guadalupe County,” said Ray.

Guzman was taken into custody and booked into the Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bail.

and committed to listening especially when issues of growth, transportation, and public safety intersect. With his candidacy now official, Carpenter’s campaign will begin engaging residents across Guadalupe County as the election season gets underway.”

Carpenter is seeking to fill the seat currently held by Guadalupe County Judge Kyle Kutscher, who announced

Officials say the enforcement phase of the operation began on October 31 when officers executed a state narcotics search warrant in the 700 block of Shannon Avenue. During that search, police arrested Robert Young, 25, of Seguin, who was wanted on multiple outstanding felony warrants. Officers also seized about 28 grams of methamphetamine along with packaging materials and a digital scale. Young, now faces a first-degree felony charge of manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance.

Efforts continued November 12 and 13. Seguin officers joined by partnering agencies carried out other coordinated arrest operations that resulted in the apprehension of 20 additional suspects across Seguin, New Braunfels, and rural

in October that he will not seek reelection. Kutscher has served the county since 2011 -- one term as county commissioner and the last three as county judge.

The official filing period is currently open and runs through Dec. 6, 2025. Kutscher will continue to serve as county judge through Dec. 31, 2026.

Guadalupe County. One fugitive was captured in the 400 block of Schumann Beach Road in New Braunfels with assistance from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Bureau.

Seguin Police officials are also expressing appreciation for the collaboration that helped make Operation Low Key a success. Those participating agencies include the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Bureau; the Joint Counterdrug Task Force – Texas Army National Guard and the New Braunfels Police Department Street Crimes Unit.

All 21 suspects were booked into the Guadalupe County Jail. Investigators say further arrests connected to the operation are expected, and all cases will be forwarded to the Guadalupe County Attorney’s Office for prosecution.

Marion Bulldogs run past Jourdanton in bi-district playoff

(Jourdanton) -- The Marion Bulldogs are back in the Class 3A Division I area round after defeating Jourdanton for the second time in three years.

The Bulldogs took down the Indians, 28-22, in Jourdanton on Friday night in the bi-district round. The win was the second straight for Marion over Jourdanton in the bi-district round after falling to the Indians in the first round two years ago.

Marion started the scoring in the first quarter when senior quarterback Kade Pape outran the Jourdanton defense for a 96-yard touchdown run. The TD happened one play after Bulldog defensive back Dillon Mora ended an Indian drive with an interception.

The Bulldogs would end the next Jourdanton drive on a turnover on downs, leading to another Pape touchdown run in the second quarter. Pape took the ball past the goal line from 36 yards out to put Marion in front, 140, a little over a minute into the quarter. The Indians would score their first touchdown later to cut the lead down to 14-8 at the half.

In the third quarter, Marion would recover a loose ball on the second half kickoff and Pape would score his third touchdown of the night to cap a 31yard drive. The Bulldog signal caller ran the ball in from three yards out to give the Bulldogs a 21-8 lead.

Just past the midway point in the third, a Jourdanton touchdown pulled the Indians to within 21-16, but Marion would respond on the next play from

scrimmage. Following a kickoff out of bounds by Jourdanton, Marion running back Tanner Otis found a crease and sprinted 70 yards to paydirt to put the Bulldogs up, 28-16 with 5:45 left in the quarter.

A Jourdanton touchdown with a little over three minutes left to go in the fourth quarter made the score 28-22. The Bulldogs drove into Indian territory on their next drive, but would be stopped two yards short of a first down on fourth down at the Jourdanton 19-yard line with under a minute left. On the next play, Marion safety Emerson Blevins intercepted a Jourdanton pass and the Bulldogs would kneel out the clock to end the game.

Pape finished with 164 yards rushing on 11 carries and three touchdowns. He also threw for 117 yards. Otis carried the ball 15 times for 186 yards and a score. Marion outgained Jourdanton in total yards, 478-367.

Defensively, linebacker Blake Birdwell led Marion with 10 tackles. Blake’s cousin, Bauer Birdwell, had a sack and two tackles from his defensive line position. Linebacker Hayden Robbins had eight tackles, including one for a loss. And linebacker Ian Nevarez registered five tackles, two for loss, and an interception.

Marion advances to the area round next week, where they will meet Edna. The game will take place next Friday at 7 p.m. in Cuero. We will have the game and all of Marion’s remaining playoff games on KWED and streaming at SeguinToday.com.

RFK Jr. Vaccine Advisory Panel Revisiting Childhood Shots

(Washington, DC) -- Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr’s panel of federal vaccine advisors are set to meet next month to discuss schedules for children. According to a Federal Register notice, the panel will convene on December 4th for “discussions on vaccine safety, the childhood and adolescent immunization schedule, and hepatitis B vaccines.” It’s not clear what other changes the panel could discuss aside from Hepatitis B, but the Trump administration has been advocating to break up the combined measles-mumps-rubella shot given to children. The panel’s recommendations can influence insurance coverage as most private insurers are required to cover the shots ACIP recommends.

Congressional Hemp Restrictions Threaten Industry

(Washington, DC) -- The hemp industry is bracing for change after Congress passed legislation Wednesday with a surprise provision to ban nearly all hempderived consumer products. Hemp is a derivative of the cannabis plant that was legalized in the 2018 Farm Bill for industrial uses like rope, textiles and seed. However, the law’s broad definition created a loophole in federal rules on THC. The new ban will outlaw products containing more than zero-point-fourmilligrams of total THC per container which industry executives say will wipe out 95-percent of the 28-billion-dollar hemp retail market when it takes effect in a year. More than 300-thousand jobs are reportedly at risk as executives also warn the ban could fuel a surge in black-market sales.
