(Seguin) — A motorcycle accident last week on State Highway 46 North has claimed the life of a 20-year-old McQueeney man.
Seguin Police officials say the crash occurred around 8:43 p.m. Thursday, March 5 in the southbound lanes of State Highway 46 North
near the intersection with Eagle Crossing. Officers were dispatched after receiving multiple calls reporting a collision involving a motorcycle. When officers arrived, they located the motorcyclist lying in the roadway and immediately began life-saving measures. The rider was later
identified as Ty Abel, of McQueeney.
Despite the efforts of first responders, officials say Abel was pronounced dead at the scene.
Seguin police say the crash remains under investigation.

(Seguin) -- With the primary election decided, Michael Carpenter is poised to become Guadalupe County’s next county judge. In fact, it became clear immediately after the filing deadline in December that Carpenter would stand alone on the Republican primary ballot, facing no challenger last Tuesday. Carpenter will officially assume the role in January, replacing current County Judge Kyle Kutscher, who opted not to seek another term.
During a recent appearance on KWED’s Saturday Topic program, Carpenter spoke about his vision for guiding Guadalupe County into its next chapter.
“Judge Kutscher and the previous judges and commissioners have given us an amazing foundation of a county government. There are some things that I would like to do with regard to organizational culture and cooperation and teamwork that I could not do if that foundation was not there and that organizational culture, I want to build upon again collaboration and teamwork and all of the departments seeing each other and understanding what effect each department has on the other. (Seguin) - A Guadalupe County Narcotics Operation has led to the recent arrest of a Schertz man.
Investigators with the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Bureau Narcotics Unit, working alongside SWAT personnel, carried out the operation on Thursday, March 5 in Schertz. During the operation, authorities arrested Raymundo Ruvalcaba.
Ruvalcaba was booked into the Guadalupe County Adult Detention Center and faces several local charges, including
manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance penalty group 1 — cocaine — in an amount between 4 and 200 grams, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, theft of a firearm, evading arrest or detention, and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence with intent to impair.
Sheriff’s officials also said Ruvalcaba had active warrants issued out of Bexar County for manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance penalty group 1 (4 to 200 grams), evading arrest or detention with a vehicle, and a parole violation.
During the investigation and arrest, Guadalupe County investigators say they seized about 38.54 grams of cocaine and two firearms. One of the firearms was confirmed to be a stolen handgun.
The investigation remains ongoing, with additional charges possible.
The Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information related to this case or other narcotics activity to contact the Special Investigations Bureau at 830-379-1224 or the Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers at 877-403-TIPS (8477).

It should be pointed out that Carpenter’s path to this new leadership role follows decades of public service.
He first entered local leadership as a Schertz City Council member before serving multiple terms as mayor of Schertz. He later brought those leadership skills to the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court.
His move to seek the county judge’s seat, however, created some changes within county government.
Former longtime commissioner Jim Wolverton was appointed to his seat and --- just last Tuesday secured the Republican nomination for the unexpired Precinct 3 seat on the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court.
The Precinct 3 vacancy was originally created when Carpenter resigned to run for county judge.
During the interview, Carpenter admitted that he was surprised when no one filed to challenge him for County judge — a rare occurrence in the county’s history.
“I was completely surprised. I was cautiously
optimistic and hopeful but I will tell you I sat in the Starbucks in Schertz where the Guadalupe County Republican representative was sitting waiting for filers and I just sat there waiting for someone to walk in and wondering when it was going to happen and it didn’t and I was just very surprised and then there was another representative from the party that was in Seguin and I asked the gentleman that was sitting across from me -- did anyone file in Seguin? And he texted ‘no, no one has filed’ and then I went to the website and checked, and I saw that no one filed from the Democratic party, Green party, Libertarian --no other filers at all and I was very surprised. I was very surprised. Just a little insider, I had 24x8 foot signs and they are still in my garage. They were ready to go, and my wife has told me get them out of my garage, “ laughs Carpenter.
As Guadalupe County continues to experience rapid growth, Carpenter says his focus will always remain on “steady leadership, long-term planning and ensuring county government keeps pace with the needs of its residents.”
Carpenter will be administered the oath of office on Jan. 1, 2027.

(Seguin) -- Seguin sophomore Noah King was named a first-team selection to lead Matador all-district honors in District 27-5A for the 202526 boys basketball season.
King was Seguin’s leading scorer with a 10.1 points-per-game average. The sophomore was also lethal from three-point range, knocking down 56 three-pointers at a 47 percent clip.
Making the all-district second team for the Matadors was Jay Menchaca. The junior was Seguin’s leading rebounder at 6.8 rebounds per game and also averaged 8.4 points per contest.
Seniors Tavien Miles and Abron Acuna, along with junior Mikey
Hernandez, earned all-district honorable mention for the Matadors. Miles averaged 8.9 points per game and led Seguin in assists at 3.6 per game.
Acuna’s 3.3 assists per game ranked second on the team. Hernandez led the Matadors with 74 three-pointers and 52 steals on the season.
Seguin was well represented on the Academic All-District team as well. Those earning academic recognition were Menchaca, Hernandez, Evan Flores, Nate Walter, Ty Luckey, David Maindo and team manager Xzavier Vela.
The Matadors finished sixth in District 27-5A with a 7-9 district record and 15-15 overall mark. Seguin was led by sixth-year head coach Guy Nowlin.
David Reyes Urdialez, age 82 of Seguin, passed away on March 2, 2026. David was born on November 2, 1943, in Kingsbury, Texas to Sophia (Reyes) and Manuel R. Urdialez.
David was a longtime member of Bethel Church C.L.A.D.I.C.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and his siblings, Samuel Urdialez, Sr., Elias Urdialez, Lorraine Delgado, and Maria Rivera.
Frederick John Lamsfuss and his twin brother Otto were born to Otto Carl Lamsfuss and Martha Uckermark Lamsfuss in Mt. Vernon, New York, on December 9, 1941. The family moved to New Brunswick, New Jersey where Fred graduated from high school. He set records in pole vaulting, was a track and football star and sang in the choir. He received many honors in these areas.
After high school Fred joined the Air Force. Fred started his faith life in the Missionary Alliance Church. As an Adult he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He was a member of Cross Lutheran Church and School in New Braunfels, TX. He faithfully attended church and Bible studies with the assurance that he was a saved child of God. Fred
Arlin Arthur “Bud” Coffman passed away February 28, 2026, just shy of 85 years. He was born on March 27, 1941, in Perry Oklahoma to Mabel Martin Coffman and Clarence Arlin Coffman.
Bud went to Perry High School and lettered in football and basketball. He was All State in football and went to Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship. Bud had a deep abiding faith in Christ. It is what sustained him particularly through the difficult times of loss.
Bud worked as a barber his entire life and retired at 60 and moved to McQueeney, Texas. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and

Camille Elinor Weiss was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 3, 1956, to Leroy E. Weiss and Camille Brashier Weiss and passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, in Seguin, Texas.
She is survived by her two daughters, Stephanie M. Weiss and her husband Matthew Becnel and Katy H. Weiss and her fiancé Conor Brown; son, Joshua Schwartz and his wife Karen Schwartz; brother, William “Bill” Weiss and his wife Kristen Weiss; nephew, William “Billy” Weiss; nieces, Melissa Engelke, Amy Ferrell and Hayley Meek.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Henry “Hank” Weiss and her parents, Leroy E. Weiss and Camille Brashier Weiss.
Camille was a loving daughter, a devoted mother, and a natural caregiver whose heart was always open to others. Her love for God guided the way she lived her life. Her faith was steady and strong, shaping her kindness, her
compassion, and the grace she extended to everyone she met. She trusted in His plan, even in difficult seasons, and found comfort and strength in her relationship with Him.
Music filled her soul and her home — whether it was playing softly in the background or lifting everyone’s spirits, it was one of the many ways she brought warmth into the world. She had a rare gift for conversation; no one was ever a stranger for long. With her bright smile and sincere interest in others, she could spark up a connection anywhere she went. Helping people wasn’t just something she did - it was who she was. She found purpose in being of service and joy in making life a little easier, lighter, or brighter for someone else. (Sacramento, CA) -- The respiratory virus human metapneumovirus, or HMPV is spreading in California. HMPV has been found in wastewater in parts of Northern California. It’s high in several cities including San Francisco and Sacramento. Lower levels are being seen in Los Angeles County. HMPV is not a new virus, but its usual seasonal pattern changed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Experts say its return could mean a shift back to pre-pandemic virus patterns. Immunity to viruses like HMPV decreased during the pandemic, so people may be more susceptible now. The illness usually lasts from winter to spring, causes cough, fever, and congestion, and spreads through surfaces, air, and close contact. There is no vaccine for HMPV.
(Woonsocket, RI) -- CVS is going to be launching a new platform that uses artificial intelligence to bring together information from a number of sources to help its customers with their health. What’s called “Health100” will run through Google Cloud and bring together benefit, managers, pharmacies, providers and health systems to all one platform. CVS says the platform will be for everyone regardless of their pharmacy and will support better health outcomes. CVS owns the largest chain of drugstores in the U.S. and the large health insurance company Aetna.
(China) -- A new study shows middle aged men may age faster with exposure to specific forever chemicals. The study in the journal Frontiers in Aging shows researchers analyzed chemicals known as PFAS in the blood stream and chemical changes to DNA to see how quickly their cells were aging. Results show higher levels of two chemicals were associated with faster biological aging in men 50 to 64 but not in women. Researchers at Tong University in China says Midlife is a sensitive biological window where the body becomes more susceptible to age-related stressors, which could explain why that age group reacts stronger to chemical exposure.
(Cleveland OH) -- A skin doctor is warning not to get a base tan or head to the tanning salon as folks gear up for spring break trips in warmer climates. Dermatologist Shilpi Khetarpal at the Cleveland Clinic says it’s unsafe. He says tanning beds should be avoided because they increase the risk of cancer, age your skin and cause wrinkles. She says a spray tan is a safer option. She recommends if you are going to be out in the sun on a spring break trip to use sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and to reapply the sunscreen throughout the day.

World Day of Prayer Service Planned March 6
Church Women United will host a World Day of Prayer service at 2 p.m. Friday, March 6 at St. James Catholic Church in the Catholic Daughters House. World Day of Prayer is an ecumenical celebration of informed prayer and prayerful action. This year’s service, written by the women of Nigeria and inspired by Matthew 11:28-30, invites the community to gather in faith and fellowship.
