Beginning this Thursday at 10 a.m., area government and public safety agencies, including Comal County, Guadalupe County, the City of New Braunfels, the City of Seguin, and others, will conduct a coordinated test of their emergency notification systems as part of a statewide exercise.
As part of the national tour, the “Golden Flyer II” — a refurbished 1914 Saxon roadster — is scheduled to arrive in Seguin this Sunday, March 22. The vehicle recreates the historic journey of two suffragists who, in 1916, traveled more than 10,000 miles across a largely roadless America to rally support for women’s right to vote.

(Schertz) -- This time, five years ago, a 21-year-old man was gunned down while sitting in his car outside an apartment complex in Schertz.
Today, the Schertz Police Department is revisiting the cold case as it seeks information in the March 12, 2021, killing of Jerod “JJ” Jeffrey at the Sycamore Creek Apartments located in the 1000 block of Elbel Road.
(Seguin)--This April, the Seguin Art League offers plenty of ways for residents to enjoy and create art, from hands-on classes to events and a student showcase.
Authorities say Jeffrey was found inside his silver Mercedes sedan. He reportedly suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by first responders, officials say he died at the scene.

Art in Action! is planned for April 11–12 and invites participants of all ages and abilities to create original artwork inspired by the local community. Artists begin the event at the Seguin Art League gallery for check-in, where canvases, boards, or paper are stamped and tagged. They then head out into downtown Seguin to capture scenes through painting, drawing, sketching, or photography, engaging with onlookers along the way.

Completed pieces are submitted for judging and displayed in a public exhibit at the gallery from April 14–25. Visitors will also have the opportunity to select a People’s Choice favorite. Special awards include 1st Place ($200), 2nd Place ($150), 3rd Place ($100), People’s Choice ($75), and Kid’s Choice ($50). Children are welcome to participate but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Submission fees are $25 for non-members, $15 for members, and $10 for children, covering up to two pieces per artist.
If you’d rather focus on learning a new skill, the Art League is offering two workshops this month. On April 18, Marti Swanson will teach a Needle Felted Landscapes class for students ages 14 and older, showing how to create small, textured wool landscapes. On April 29, Cat Bollinger will lead an Ink and Watercolor Landscapes session, exploring creative ways to work with water-based media. This class is geared toward intermediate students, ages 16 and older.

(San Antonio) -- The Seguin Matadors stayed unbeaten in District 275A play with a 12-0 run-rule victory over Sam Houston in San Antonio on Tuesday.
Austin Patek went the distance on the mound, allowing only one hit and striking out 14 through five innings. At the plate, Patek went 2-for-2 with two RBI.
The Matadors scored all 12 of their runs in the first inning. Ethan Tipple homered to lead off the game. Nathaniel Herrera drove in three runs and clubbed a double. Griffin Welfel tripled in the first and had three RBI in the inning.
(Abilene) -- Seguin and Navarro high school lifters flexed their muscles at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association boys state championship meet on Friday and Saturday in Abilene.
Seguin improved to 17-8 on the season. The Matadors have now outscored their district opponents 54-0 through five games.
The Matadors are back home Friday to host San Antonio Lanier.
(San Antonio) -- The Marion Bulldogs run-ruled San Antonio Cole 11-0 in San Antonio on Tuesday.
Huck Schoenvogel went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Eli Parker tossed a fiveinning, two-hit shutout for the Bulldogs. Kade Pape doubled home a pair of runs in a four-run fourth inning.
Marion has won eight straight and is unbeaten through three games in District 27-3A play. The Bulldogs will look for a two-game sweep of the Cougars when they host Cole on Friday.
(Gonzales) -- The Navarro Panthers completed a two-game sweep of Gonzales with a 17-2 run-rule rout of the Apaches on Tuesday.
Freshman Drew Mundine went 3-for-3 with an RBI and four runs scored.
Mason Harvey finished fourth in the 220-pound weight class for the Panthers at Friday’s Division II meet. Cael Scott placed sixth in the 132-pound division. In the 148-pound division, Dylan Trotti finished sixth, Korbin Benes placed seventh, and Trinidad Aguirre was 15th. Hagan Krauel finished 14th in the 181-pound weight class, while Hudson Stadler placed 10th in the 198-pound division.
Austin Davidson, Ryan Davidson and Noah Rosas each had doubles for the Panthers.
The Seguin Matadors had five lifters compete on Saturday at the Division I 5A state meet. Hunter Mica earned a silver medal in the 242-pound weight class. Frankie Medina placed eighth in the 275-pound division, and John Medrano finished 18th in the 148-pound class.
(San Antonio) -- The Navarro Lady Panther softball team took advantage of several walks, passed balls, wild pitches and errors in a 26-1 three-inning run-rule victory over San Antonio Memorial on Tuesday night.
The boys state powerlifting meet was held at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene.
Navarro batted around in the first inning and scored 13 runs. The Lady Panthers put eight runs on the board in the second and five in the third.
With the win, Navarro evened their District 28-4A record at 2-2. The Lady Panthers will host Cuero on Friday.














(Edinburgh) -- Drugs for attention-deficit disorder in children may lower the risk of psychosis later in life. A new study has found that medications such as Ritalin and Concerta may reduce the risk of psychosis when prescribed to children with ADHD. Children with the disorder are at greater risk of developing psychotic conditions such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. A study published Wednesday looked at children who had been treated with ADHD drugs and found those who were on the treatment for three to four years appeared to have a lower risk of psychosis than children who did not receive the treatment.
(Vatican City) -- New guidelines from the Vatican say Catholics may receive animal organ transplants. A new document released by the Catholic Church on Tuesday found no objection to using animals as a source of organs, tissues, or cells for human transplants. The document also outlined ethical and medical standards for animal-human transplant procedures, known as xenotransplantation. The Vatican said xenotransplants could offer an unlimited supply of organs, tissue, and cells, relieving the “chronic” shortage of human donors, while also noting the need to avoid any chance that the recipient’s genome will be altered.
(Atlanta, GA) -- The Centers for Disease Control is issuing a travel warning about dengue fever. The agency’s Level One “take precautions alert” applies to 15 countries including Cuba, Columbia and Mali. The countries impacted are reporting higher case levels than usual. Dengue fever is spread through mosquito bites. The CDC advises travelers heading to countries on the alert list to wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants and to use insect repellent.
(Montrovia, CA) -- Over three million pounds of Trader Joe’s food is being added to a nationwide mass recall. Ajinomoto Foods North America initiated a recall of Trader Joe’s Japanese Style Fried Rice with Edamame, Tofu, and Hijiki Seaweed in early March and it was designated as a Class II by the FDA last week. The updated classification means exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. According to an enforcement report posted to the FDA’s website, the recall was issued due to the presence of glass, and the products were sold in more than 40 states including California, Texas, Florida, Georgia and New York.





Texas Lutheran University will host a special night of fun through science event from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 31 in the Student Activity Center at Jackson Park. On March 23, 2026, Craig Andrew Reimer went to his heavenly home. Craig was born April 28, 1974, to James and Connie Reimer. He was a loving son, brother, and uncle, as well as the best friend anyone could ask for. He was always the first to be there when called. More than once he dropped his work when a friend called needing help. He loved tending to his chickens and cattle alongside his nephew, Tyler. Craig was the anchor of the family and will be missed dearly.

He is survived by his parents; sister Cheryl Jordan; nephew Tyler Jordan; along with many friends and extended family.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, from 5:00 -7:00 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Tres Hewell Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Ron Zipp officiating. Interment will follow at the Elm Creek Community Cemetery.
