Signup underway for Saturday’s Build for Better Bash Darren Dunn
(Seguin) -- There’s still time for you to get signed up for this year’s Build for Better Bash. The event, hosted by the Guadalupe Valley Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity, will be held Saturday in a parking lot at Texas Lutheran University. Habitat is nearing a major milestone as it continues to build affordable and decent housing for hardworking families in Seguin. The Build for Better Bash calls for community volunteers to come out and help build the walls for the group’s latest homes. Habitat’s Taylor Judkin says it’s a fun and easy way for you to make a difference in Seguin. “We’re going to bring out what we did last year. We’re going to have the whole TLU parking lot filled. We’re going to have stations set up and we’re building walls for the 50th and the 51st house,” said Judkin. Judkin says you don’t need any special skills. She says you just need to sign up and come out on Saturday
morning to TLU. “It’s all (done) by hand — nail and hammer. So, it’s going to be loud, but it’s going to be fun. There’s going to be a whole bunch of two by fours. We’re going to have instructions (for you). I think last year we had close to 200 people come out in the middle of summer — in the heat. It was incredible to see. We have families that are in our pipeline building along with you as well. So, that way you get to hear their stories as well. We’re just super excited to be able to build these walls and then come back out in August and raise them,” said Judkin. Habitat’s Madeline Zwicke says building these walls for their 50th and 51st homes will be a unique chance for people to help build a better future for families here in Seguin. “We’re going to build two sets of walls in two hou12rs with 200 plus volunteers.
