Guadalupe County receives request for future for-profit cemetery Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
Seguin to work its way back to #1 in national contest Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) -- The clock is ticking for Seguin. With just nine days remaining until the new February 28 deadline, community leaders are urgently calling on residents to rally once again and secure Seguin’s top spot in Parade Magazine’s “America’s Favorite Small Town” contest. Voting in the national competition was
extended after an earlier deadline had already circulated. Approaching that original deadline, Seguin was sitting in the lead at #1. Much of the enthusiasm for continuing their votes, however, reportedly died down after learning that the contest was extended for another month. Contest, pg. 3
(Seguin) -- A proposal to create a for-profit cemetery -- something county officials say has not been requested in a very long time -- has officially been submitted to Guadalupe County. The proposal was brought before the Guadalupe County Commissioners’ Court for discussion during a recent meeting. Again, county staff noted it has been a very long time since a cemetery application of this type has come forward. Bringing the information to the court was Daniella Valdez, the Guadalupe County environmental health director. Valdez says the proposal was submitted by Glenn Bower, who is seeking to establish Windmill Garden Memorial Park. She says Bower stated in a letter to the court that he and his wife, Victoria Bower, intend to purchase the property and, along with their daughters, open the cemetery for the interment of human remains following approval. During the meeting, Valdez outlined the requirements under Section 711.008(g-4) of the Texas Health and Safety Code. Cemetery, pg. 3
