This is what Christmas looks like in Seguin Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) -- As we embark on our 2025 Christmas issue of the Seguin Daily News, we wanted to do something that felt personal, meaningful, and true to who we are as a community. We invited our readers and our KWED radio listeners to scroll through their camera rolls and share their favorite holiday photo so far this season. What came back was exactly what we hoped for, moments filled with warmth, joy, tradition, laughter, and love. This collage is our community Christmas card for 2025. It’s a visual reminder of what the holiday spirit is really about: people, connection, and shared moments -- both big and small. As we looked
through the submissions, it was genuinely moving. Faces we recognize, faces we don’t, families we know well, and others that we may meet someday -- but all tied together by the same sense of our Seguin and Guadalupe County community. James Martin Moeller, age 79 of Seguin, passed away on December 20, 2025. James was born in Seguin, Texas on October 15, 1946, to Lola Alma (Bode) and Martin Alex Moeller. He married Virginia (Kay) Moeller on December 22, 1968. James was a member of the Seguin High School Class of 1964 and member of the marching band. James enjoyed many activities throughout his lifetime including, helping with the rodeos at the Bode rodeo arena. He loved his time coaching pony league and little league baseball and playing men’s softball for many years. James’ work career included Seguin Enterprise where among other things, he captured many photographs of local events, especially sporting events. He then began working for the City of Seguin at the power plant for several years. From there, he worked at United Cotton Goods until their doors closed. That began his final work destination at Seguin Independent School District as warehouse supervisor where he retired after 20 years. He enjoyed all the good times spent among family and friends. The times hunting, fishing, shrimp boils and just shooting the “shit”. But, his favorite times were spent supporting his grandchildren in all their activities, whether it be

sports related or showing animals or anything else they were involved in. James is preceded in death by his parents, his mother-in-law and father-inlaw, Marjorie Marie (Neal) and Charles Lynn Carroll, brothers-in-law, Charles Lynn Carroll, Jr. and Robert Andrew Carroll, and sister-in-law, Lynda Sanders and husband Allen. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Virginia Kay Carroll Moeller; daughter, Kristine Edwards and husband Luther; son, William Fredrick “Bubba” Moeller and wife Paula; grandchildren, Eli Edwards, Samuel Edwards, Cole Moeller, Alex Horton and husband Ethan, Hunter Gustafson, and Erin Williams and husband Bryce; six great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Michael Neal Carroll; other loving family members and a host of friends. Jane Bierstedt passed away December 15, 2025, at the age of 90 years old. Jane was born on January 20, 1935, in Farwell, Texas to Hertha Alva Bode McQuatters and Otis Roy McQuatters. Jane attended Seguin High School and enjoyed a 30 plus year career employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone and AT&T. She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter Sheron Ann Manning and her great grandson Klayton Manning. Jennie Lee Hines, 83, of Seguin, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025. Jennie was born on November 10, 1942, in San Antonio, Texas to Adeline (Enck) and Charles Elam Scull, Jr. A graduate of Seguin High School, Jennie attended College at the University of Texas in Austin and obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of Texas in San Antonio. Jennie’s life passion was education, and she devoted herself to children in Seguin ISD for 32 years where she served as a principal at Lizzie M. Burgess, Jefferson Elementary, Juan Seguin, and Ball Early Childhood Center. Her greatest joy was her time spent at Ball Early Childhood Center where she could never be found in her office because she was constantly in the classroom, in the library, reading to children, loving on children in the cafeteria, or working the car line. Jennie loved reading and you could often find her at the family ranch, tucked in her favorite chair in front of the fireplace, with a good book on her lap. An adventurer at heart, Jennie also loved the outdoors and hunted and fished

always done right. Despite a life full of hard work, Wayne’s greatest joy came from the people and companions he loved most - his family and the four-legged friends who followed him everywhere. Linnette Habermann, age 88 of Seguin, passed away on December 6, 2025. Linnette was born on December 10, 1936, in Seguin Texas to Linda Emma (Dietert) and Gilbert Robert Habermann. She was a lifelong member of Cross Church. Linnette worked for the City of Seguin for over 34 years serving as City Secretary. Upon retirement Linnette loved nothing more than being out in
Wayne Bothe, age 75 of Seguin, Texas, passed away on November 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born and raised in Seguin and was a proud 1968 graduate of Seguin High School. He lived his life with grit, humor, and stubborn determination. Those who knew him will forever remember his ever-ready smart-ass comments, sharp wit, and the sound of his laughter echoing through the house - and the garage. Though officially retired, Wayne could never sit still - unless he received the text, “Football and ‘seegars’ at Skip’s,” or it was time for the Thursday night “Holy Smokes” group. He greatly enjoyed sharing a cigar, swapping stories, catching up on neighborhood news, and talking sports with his tight-knit circle of friends. He worked hard his entire life and took pride in his career as a truck driver. He spent more than 30 years driving everyday to Miller Brewing Company in Fort Worth. At home, he was a talented mechanic, always working on his own projects or helping friends with cars and tractors. Whether on the road or in the garage, his work reflected the same determination, and pride that defined him. No matter how long it took him to complete a project, he made sure it was

President Trump Re-classifies Marijuana (Washington, DC) -- President Trump is easing marijuana restrictions. He signed an executive order switching the drug from a Schedule 1 to a Schedule 3, reclassifying it as less dangerous. Trump said the reclassification would not legalize it on a federal level, nor make it drug approved for recreational use. Instead, Trump said it will help many Americans dealing with extreme pain and other serious medical conditions. Marijuana has been in the same category as heroin, ecstasy and LSD. New Study Shows All Nicotine Forms Are Toxic To Heart (Undated) -- A new study shows all forms of nicotine are bad for heart health. There’s been lots of debate over the years on whether vaping or nicotine pouches are a healthier option than cigarettes. However, new findings published in the European Heart Journal show nicotine is toxic in all forms to the heart. Lead researcher Dr. Thomas Münzel says there’s increased blood pressure, damage to blood vessels and a higher risk of heart disease regardless of whether its pouches, vapes, cigarettes or tobacco. Another researcher Thomas Lüscher says there’s no effective harm reduction with people shifting from cigarettes to e-cigarettes and flavored pouches. Bipartisan Bill Compensates Firefighters Who Get Cancer From Wildfire Smoke (Washington, DC) -- U.S. firefighters who got cancer from working in toxic wildfire smoke are getting compensation from the federal government. A law signed by President Trump on Thursday makes firefighters eligible for a payment of nearly 450-thousand dollars and college tuition for their family if they die or become debilitated from a smoke-related cancer. The bipartisan bill was co-sponsored by Republican Senator Kevin Cramer of North Dakota and Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, and requires about 20 smoke-related cancers to be automatically treated as line-of-duty injuries. High Fat Cheese Could Lead To Lower Chances Of Dementia (Undated) -- A new study shows eating high fat cheese and high fat cream may lower the chances of getting dementia. The findings published in the journal Neurology show a comparison of brain health of people who ate 50 grams or more of high-fat cheese daily to those who ate less than 15 grams a day. Results show people who ate more high-fat cheese decreased their chances of developing dementia by 13 percent compared to those who ate less high fat cheese. The research involved data from nearly 28 thousand people in Sweden.

Chess Tournament at the Seguin Public Library The Seguin Public Library will host a small, informal chess tournament open to all ages, on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 10 a.m. The event will feature a Swissstyle format with four rounds and is expected to last about two hours. The tournament is unrated and beginner-friendly, but participants should be familiar with the basic rules and moves of chess. The library will provide chess boards and clocks, though participants are welcome to bring their own. There will be five-minute breaks between rounds, with snacks provided. Efforts will be made to match players by age group, but some mixing may occur in later rounds depending on attendance. Special prizes will be awarded, including 3-D printed trophies for first and second place in each age group: Kids (6–11), Teens (12–17), and Adults (18 and up).
