(Seguin) -- The Zonta Club of Seguin is helping bring a piece of women’s history to the community as it partners with other groups for the Driving the Vote for Equality Tour.

As part of the national tour, the “Golden Flyer II” — a refurbished 1914 Saxon roadster — is scheduled to arrive in Seguin this Sunday, March 22. Additional law enforcement presence was scheduled at the campus today to provide extra support for students and staff. The district also noted that it maintains an armed security officer on each campus as part of its ongoing safety measures.

The district has requested the matter be referred to the Guadalupe County Attorney’s Office for possible criminal action and is encouraging families to speak with their students about the serious consequences associated with making threats.

According to the Seguin Police Department, officers were notified around 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 30 by school administrators regarding possible threats made by a student. The student, identified as a 13-year-old male, allegedly made comments about bringing a gun to school and shooting the campus.
Zonta Club of Seguin President Susan Monahan says the organization has worked to ensure the focus remains on learning and honoring history as the tour makes its way through Seguin.
Seguin ISD officials expressed appreciation for their partnership with local law enforcement, particularly the Seguin Police Department, in maintaining a safe environment for students and staff.

Police say the juvenile was detained due to the severity of the statement and later transported to the Guadalupe County Juvenile Detention Center on a charge of terroristic threat.
Both the district and police emphasized the importance of reporting concerning behavior. The district credited those who used the P3 anonymous reporting system to alert officials, while authorities are urging parents to remind students to report anything suspicious to a trusted adult or law enforcement.

(Schertz) -- This time, five years ago, a 21-year-old man was gunned down while sitting in his car outside an apartment complex in Schertz.
Today, the Schertz Police Department is revisiting the cold case as it seeks information in the March 12, 2021, killing of Jerod “JJ” Jeffrey at the Sycamore Creek Apartments located in the 1000 block of Elbel Road.
that remains central to the case. However, officials say no suspects have been publicly identified in the five years since the killing.
The Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers is now offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction in the case. Officials say they remain hopeful that someone will come

(Marion) — The Marion Independent School District Board of Trustees has approved a name change aimed at giving “greater visibility and permanence” to the legacy of longtime educator Dr. Tom DeKunder, officially renaming Marion Middle School as Dr. Tom DeKunder Middle School.
Investigators say witnesses
Marion ISD Board President Ryan Zwicke says this move ensures that DeKunder’s legacy remains “prominent” for future generations.
“So, the middle school already was Marion Middle School, the Dr. Tom DeKunder campus. And obviously spurred by the passing of Dr. DeKunder earlier this year, we just wanted to bring a little bit more prominence and a more permanent mark on his legacy that he brought to Marion ISD and the whole Marion community and surrounding Guadalupe County as well. He did so much for that. So, we really wanted to honor him. And that’s been a good tradition of the Marion ISD from the Norma Krueger Elementary -- really carrying on the legacies of people that have devoted so much of their life and their career to the district. So that is what really spurred that for the renaming of the middle school,” said Zwicke.
Journey, continued.

roles across the district, including athletic director, principal at both the high school and elementary levels, assistant superintendent and ultimately superintendent from 1997 to 2000.
Zwicke says the results of DeKunder’s personal dedication to the district are still in place today.
Community members will have multiple opportunities to see the Golden Flyer II and participate in related events throughout the day. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Sunday, the public is invited to welcome the vehicle on Camp Street, where a book signing will also be held at Pecantown Books & Brews. Author Jeryl Schreiver will be on hand to discuss her book “Driving the Vote for Women.” She will share about the original journey
For decades, DeKunder served in multiple leadership
“He was just a man that gave his life to a community. He wasn’t there for himself. He was there for the youth and the next generation and just to leave everything better than he found it. He poured so many years of his life and career into Marion ISD and really responsible for a lot of that direction where we are today.
Tips can be submitted anonymously through Guadalupe County Crime Stoppers. Individuals with helpful information are encouraged to call 877-403-8477. They may also visit guadalupecountycrimestoppers.org.

He was there in some very critical years of molding the district. I don’t think we would be where we are today as a district without the help of Dr. DeKunder,” said Zwicke.

of suffragists Alice Burke and Nell Richardson. The children’s book “Around America to Win the Vote” by Mara Rockliff will also be available.
Additional activities will continue from 2 to 4 p.m. at Central Park, where attendees can view and take pics of the Golden Flyer alongside local Ford Model T club vehicles.
In addition to his work in schools, DeKunder helped establish the Marion Education Foundation and played a key role in the development of Veterans Park in the city of Marion. He also spent much of his years with the Guadalupe County Historical Commission, the Marion Lions Club, and the Coker Cemetery Association.
Organizers say the tour “not only commemorates the determination of early advocates for women’s voting rights but also serves as a reminder of the ongoing importance of civic engagement and education.”
Dr. DeKunder died in January at the age of 80.

(Edinburgh) -- Drugs for attention-deficit disorder in children may lower the risk of psychosis later in life. A new study has found that medications such as Ritalin and Concerta may reduce the risk of psychosis when prescribed to children with ADHD. Children with the disorder are at greater risk of developing psychotic conditions such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. A study published Wednesday looked at children who had been treated with ADHD drugs and found those who were on the treatment for three to four years appeared to have a lower risk of psychosis than children who did not receive the treatment.
(Vatican City) -- New guidelines from the Vatican say Catholics may receive animal organ transplants. A new document released by the Catholic Church on Tuesday found no objection to using animals as a source of organs, tissues, or cells for human transplants. The document also outlined ethical and medical standards for animal-human transplant procedures, known as xenotransplantation. The Vatican said xenotransplants could offer an unlimited supply of organs, tissue, and cells, relieving the “chronic” shortage of human donors, while also noting the need to avoid any chance that the recipient’s genome will be altered.

The updated classification means exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.
