(Seguin) — While most teens will be sleeping in during this Thanksgiving break, others will be staying busy in the kitchen. That’s because the youth from the confirmation classes at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church will be prepping food for their Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. The meal — for the elderly, the homebound and the needy — will be served Wednesday in the Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church Parish Center. Gloria Reyna, the director of religious education at OLG, says the dinner is all part of service hours and giving back to the community.
“They all have to at least perform eight hours of service for the church, for community and with family. The Thanksgiving Dinner takes four hours so they perform this service so that this way they can get an experience of how it is to serve not only the church, but the community and it gives them an opportunity to work with their family as well,” said Reyna. While there is adult supervision, Reyna says all the work lies in the hands of the high school students. “I tell the parents you only supervise. The kids are the only ones that should be cooking the turkey, and they are turkey rolls. Meal, pg. 4
