2020 Census deadline arrives By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) – Today is the last day for you to be counted on that green population sign. Today is the deadline to go online or call the 2020 U.S. Census phone line and let them know you are here and that you matter. That’s according to Jennifer Sourdellia, the public information officer for the city of Seguin. Sourdellia says the 2020 Census is simply the way the federal government establishments its populations throughout the nation and helps determine how much money each community needs. Although today is the deadline, Sourdellia says the city is still encouraging residents to submit their responses as soon as possible.

City of Seguin employees make a last-ditch effort to remind residents to fill out their 2020 Census form by the end of today.
“Right now, we stand at about 64.5 percent and everyone has until Sept. 30 to get their responses turned in back to the Census. Actually, today some of our city staff are out walking
some of the areas where we are lagging behind in the Census responses and they are putting door hangers on just to remind everyone to be sure to get their response in before the deadline,” said Sourdellia.
A lag in responses to the Census are being noted in two areas of the city. The first area, which is still in need of approximately 800 responses, includes those homes within the Austin, Baxter, Martindale and Guadalupe Street neighborhoods. The streets in this area include but are not limited to Patton, Rosemary, Louise, Lincoln, Chapman and Mesquite. The second area still needs about 1,000 responses and lies within the Guadalupe, New Braunfels and West Court Street area. Some of the individual streets in this area include Hidalgo, Aldama, Eighth Street, Avenue G, Collins, West Kingsbury, Silva, Veterans, San Antonio Avenue, Krezdorn, West College Street, Campbell, Dolle Ave., Gordon and Saunders.
