CCSCT provides update on Head Start Program for upcoming school year
Plans still in place for Early Head Start program services in Seguin By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
how we might be able to meet with the parents virtually to work with them. So, we haven’t’ finalized that but that’s kind of where we are at in our thought process for the Early Head Start program,” said Deike.
(Seguin) -- Like other area school districts, the CCSCT is also preparing for the start of its Head Start program for the 2020-2021 school year.
Deike says although they are working toward a goal, he can’t say exactly when they’ll have the stand-along program ready for area families with young children.
Officials with the Community Council of South-Central Texas, say the non-profit organization, which was awarded the program in July, has only been given a short amount of time to not only register families for its Pre-K 4 program at Seguin ISD’s Ball Early Childhood Center but also in establishing its new home base for its new Early Head Start Services – a program for kids ages zero to five years old. Executive Director Bobby Deike says as for its pre-k program, registration is well on its way in both Guadalupe and Comal Counties. Dieke says his staff has been working to try to reach out to those families who were interested in the spring or to seek those families needing the services this fall. “I can tell you that as far as the ISD programs, both Seguin ISD and New Braunfels ISD, we have begun working with them and we have started registration for four-year-old Head Start children. We are working with a list of parents that we received in the transition of the program for both school districts. These are children that went through the process like either in New Braunfels that there were eligible three year olds or that were served as three year old in New Braunfels and then families that went through a preregistration opportunity in the spring. So, we do have contact information so our Head Start staff is beginning to reach out to those families that we have contact information for that inquired about or had pre-registered for Head Start services at Seguin ISD and New Braunfels ISD,” said Deike.
“We planned early on for a target date of Oct. 19 but again, it depends on finalizing those renovations and that type of thing in order to get the centers operational but that’s why we are looking at some alternative services for families as well,” said Deike. Meanwhile, Deike ask that families keep up with the latest changes or news regarding applying for any of the eligible Head Start services. pre-k 4-year-olds, it will be an all-day program. Dieke says as part of taking over the program, the CCSCT has committed to assist those families who were expecting of enrolling their three-year-old at Ball this year. Those services again are called its Early Head Start program and will be hosted off site in both Seguin and New Braunfels. He says the group is still working to negotiate a site to house the program.
“We still are trying to finalize a lease for a facility here in Seguin and we have a RFP out for renovations on the old Head Start center in New Braunfels so we are still trying to finalize the Early Head Start sites. With that being said, we are also considering after we can get the four year-old program -- the families eligible and in the four year old pre K programs that we are going to begin working on the eligibility and see how we might be able to begin servicing those Early Head Start families either through maybe a curbside program where they can drive through, pick up Now although the pre-k program this year will only service material that they can work with their children at home and also,

“Right now, we are asking families to just keep checking our website at CCSCT.org. We have a Head Start page set up which provides some information on the Head Start program but also that’s where we will post when we begin registration for Early Head Start – that’s where we will have that information posted – also our social media pages, we will also make announcements there and we also do now have our Head Start office in New Braunfels. That’s where our Head Start director and management team and family services team are housed and so I have a phone number that if anybody has any question, they can call our Head Start office directly,” said Deike. He says once a new location is announced, then families, who are eligible, can begin applying. Anyone who is interested in the pre-k program but who have not been contacted should call 830-327-4990.
