Elections 101: Voters invited to enroll in first ever Citizens Election Academy
Residents to learn the ins and outs of hosting an election Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) -- Guadalupe County voters are invited to sign up for a behind the scenes look at not only hosting an election but also ensuring its integrity. Thanks to the vision of Guadalupe County Elections Administrator Lisa Hayes, applications are now being accepted for the first official Citizens Election Academy. Much like the police and fire citizen academies hosted by other municipalities, she says this four-day academy is aimed at walking voters through the inner workings of the election’s office. In order to prepare and better outline this new academy, the elections office recently hosted a pilot program with a cross section of carefully selected attendees. “We saw a need to give voters information. We know there is a lot of information, some of which is good, some of which is not so good. But our goal with this program is to help provide information to the voters concerning the functions of our office, which includes voter registration and elections. We’ve created this Citizens Election Academy that has multiple class modules, and our goal is to package all of this information in easily digestible bite size pieces. Elections, pg. 3
