Athletes run into action following vehicle accident Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) – A true team of heroes is being applauded today after six local runners were not only at the right place at the right time but according to their coach did the right thing. Coach Ray Medrano says on Thursday evening, six of his Zion Hill runners were completing their daily training at Texas Lutheran University, when they quickly acted following a two-car collision at the corner of West Kingsbury Street and Fleming Drive. Medrano tells the Seguin Daily News, “Without hesitation, the athletes raced towards the scene where two vehicles were damaged
beyond repair, and smoking profusely and could go up in flames at a moment's notice. With one vehicle having no visibility to the interior, the athletes split on all sides of the vehicles to help remove the driver and passenger from an SUV. With the driver clearly in shock, the athletes

attempted to make it clear to him what was happening and removed him. The passenger, a woman that was shedding tears did not want to be moved. The athletes helped her understand that her vehicle was up in smoke and may explode at any moment, and she then pleaded for them to help her.” Upon asking them why they put their own lives at risk to help others, Medrano says the runners simply agreed and stated, “We would have rather had it explode, and we can never run again, then watch them blow up." by their coach for acting as heroes include Jordan Avalos, Xavier Padron, Brandon Hernandez, Prince Medrano, Ramiro Galvan, Tucker Jones, and Aric Pinguelo. Medrano says he is grateful that these runners encompass the moral compass of the local running program – Kindness, Integrity, Honesty and Integrity. He says he is proud to be their coach and is proud of the outstanding men they are. Seguin Police say the accident occurred around 6:15 p.m. Thursday. The conditions of those involved in the accident have not been confirmed.
