NAMI Guadalupe County committed to serving ALL families Cindy Aguirre-Herrera
(Seguin) -- Did you know that the largest grassroots mental health organization has a chapter right here in Guadalupe County? Taking the moment to further explain the efforts behind NAMI the (National Alliance of Mental Illness) is local founder Barbara Vinson. For the last six years, the local chapter in Seguin has helped to serve not only those suffering from mental illness but those caring for them. Vinson says that is what has always set the organization apart from others. “Our grassroots organization
is the only organization that supports family members that are dealing with a person with a mental health issue because doctors and everybody support the patient or the person with the mental health condition not the families. So we also help the families through support groups, free classes, presentations, we do presentations in businesses and in the workplace. We are trying to get a NAMI on campus at the high school. I’ve got one at Texas Lutheran University that is going to start this fall. I am absolutely thrilled,” said Vinson. NAMI, pg. 4
