The Voice of Seguin

Winds become challenging during area house fire (Guadalupe County) – “March 19th was a day set to burn. High winds and low humidity combined to keep fire departments throughout the state busy, and Sand Hills VFD was no exception.” That’s all according to fire officials with the Sand Hills Volunteer Fire Department. They report that at 10:41 p.m. Wednesday, the department was notified of a structure fire in the 100 block of Hollow Pass. Units responded to the scene and found a small home and two vehicles engulfed in flames. Assistant Chief Kelly Hallmark agreed with the department that the weather was doing no favors with wind gusts of up to 30 mph. “The wind gusts really whipped up the fire,” said Hallmark. “It burned hotter and faster.” Fire officials say the tenant of the home had escaped unharmed prior to

the fire department’s arrival. Units from Guadalupe County Fire and Rescue, Sand Hills VFD, New Berlin VFD, and Seguin Fire Department worked to extinguish the flames, and prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent properties. The fire was controlled, and all units were cleared at approximately 1:15 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The American Red Cross was notified and aided the tenant whose belongings were destroyed.
