Deadline arrives for large food distribution event this weekend

WEEKEND EDITION

TODAY

Guadalupe County, Seguin ISD, SA Food Bank joining forces Cindy Aguirre-Herrera

(Seguin) -- Today is your last chance to register for this weekend’s food distribution event. Guadalupe County this Saturday will be joining forces with the Seguin ISD and the San Antonio Food Bank in hosting the Community Food Distribution Event. Teams of volunteers will be on hand to help load vehicles this Saturday in the Seguin ISD Administration Building parking lot at 1221 E. Kingsbury St. Patrick Pinder, Guadalupe County emergency management coordinator and fire marshal, says the county continues to partner up with area school districts to provide the much-need food assistance to all families in the area. “We are kind of trying to bring an initiative to fighting the hunger in the county and feeding

everybody and so these are just one of the spots that we are going to be at this weekend at the Seguin ISD Administrative Office there in Seguin. Next month, we will be in Marion and the following month, we will be back in the Schertz-Cibolo area. The Commissioners Court has dedicated some funds to the San Antonio Food Bank over the past few years. This year, we allocated some of our ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) funding towards the food bank just to make sure because they stepped up during the time of need for the communities and began to feed everybody and so right now, we are just hosting those and my department is fortunate enough to lead that initiative for that community,” said Pinder. it BACK... Spirits are rising as word of plans for the Riverside Cemetery Tour spreads. The tour lay dormant after the Covid Pandemic, but the Affiliation of Seguin Women’s Clubs promises to resurrect it this fall, Oct. 27, 2024 as part of Seguin’s Pecan Fest. A preliminary walkthrough by representatives of the three clubs recently focused on the women of Seguin and the many historical gravesites where some of Seguin’s most interesting ancestors rest. Conferring in front of the Nolte Mausoleum are Ann Louise Hagerty, Jennifer Ehlers, Gerry Richardson, Kristen Haener, Diane Gesick and Yvonne De La Rosa. Details of the tour and the personalities to be featured are forthcoming. Courtesy photo.
