History behind the famous video game company, Nintendo!
Nintendo was first created by Fusajiro Yamuichi on September 23rd, 1889 in Kyoto, Japan.
Initially, the company was called Nintendo Koppai and produced handmade playing cards called Hanafuda.
The company then began exploring arcade games. In 1975, they introduced EVR Race, a six-player horseracing simulator. Even though it was creative and ahead of its time, the game was difficult to operate and maintain.
The company began investing in video games, and on July 15, 1983, they released their first home video game console called the Family Computer (Famicom).
Two years later, it was redesigned and released in the United States under a new name: the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).
After the NES, Nintendo kept releasing new game consoles over the years. In 1992, they came out with the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Then in 1996, the Nintendo 64 was released, followed by the GameCube in 2001. In 2006, Nintendo launched the first Wii console.
Nintendo also expanded its handheld lineup over the years. The Game Boy, released in 1989, became the first globally successful portable console. It was later followed by the Game Boy Color in 1998, which introduced a color screen, and the more advanced Game Boy Advance in 2001.
In 2004, Nintendo launched the DS with its signature dual screens and touchscreen, and in 2011, the Nintendo 3DS added glasses-free 3D to handheld gaming.
In 2017, they released the Nintendo Switch which was there first hybrid console that can be taken on the go or played on the T.V.
Recently, in 2025, they released the Switch 2. An upgraded version of the first switch with updated design and hardware capabilities.
