Early Literacy

30-week Scope & Sequence 1st Grade

With Seesaw Early Literacy, our mission is to foster joyful learning opportunities for both educators and students alike. These lessons are designed not only to supplement your teaching but also to inspire a love for early literacy in your students. Overview: This is organized from high-utility to low-utility sound-spelling patterns, ensuring a strategic progression in literacy development and including opportunities to revisit and review previously learned skills. It builds upon the simplest to most complex skills, following Dr. Blevins’ (2017) principle that many words can be formed as early as possible.

Implementation: This scope & sequence is thoughtfully crafted to align with the dynamic needs of teachers’ classrooms. Within this framework, teachers are encouraged to explore and select any of the lessons listed for a particular week, allowing for the freedom to tailor their instruction to best meet their students’ needs and their instructional objectives. Whether teachers prefer whole-class engagement, collaborative partner activities, interactive small group centers, individualized review work, or any other pedagogical approach, these lessons can be seamlessly integrated into a teacher’s existing curriculum.
