This year, we intentionally slowed new group formation to strengthen our foundation, enabling lasting growth by equipping our leaders, improving systems, and strengthening support for our groups. While we reached 68% of our calendar-year goal, we are entering 2026 ready to multiply impact with excellence and sustainability! Read more about our Vision for 2026 here

Vuni invested 200,000 UGX (~$53 USD) in farming loans, acquired 2 goats and poultry, and now pays school fees on time while working toward finishing his home!
Seed Effect’s growth is powered by Community-Based Facilitators (CBFs), trusted men and women who begin as savings group members and are equipped to help expand the program within their own communities. After at least six months in a group and a proven track record of leadership and integrity, CBFs are nominated through local church leadership and trained by Seed Effect staff to form and support new groups
Each CBF can launch up to six new savings groups per year, training members through their first year of the Savings & Loan curriculum while integrating Bible study and spiritual mentorship into the rhythms of group life Because CBFs are locally rooted and deeply invested in their neighbors’ long-term well-being, this model keeps costs low, strengthens local ownership, and enables Seed Effect to scale with dignity and sustainability, far beyond what staff alone could accomplish. “When we look for a Community-Based Facilitator, we seek someone deeply rooted in their community and in Christ They are the bridge between our vision and the people we serve ” MANYOK GABRIEL DENG, PROGRAM OFFICER, ADJUMANI FIELD OFFICE
At Seed Effect, we often talk about economic empowerment, but what we’re really after is restoration Our impact goes far beyond income growth by addressing poverty at its root through restored broken relationships with God, self, others, and creation Across Northern Uganda and South Sudan, 99% of Seed Effect members report improvement in these core relationships, a powerful indicator of holistic transformation. Through savings groups that combine financial tools with a 32-week Bible study, members not only save for school fees, launch businesses, and strengthen household stability, but also experience reconciliation, reduced conflict, renewed purpose, and a stronger community. Members also report lower rates of quarrels and violence, restored marriages and families, increased generosity toward neighbors, and deeper care for the land that sustains them
We believe true transformation can’t happen apart from the Gospel and that true development mirrors God’s design for wholeness and restoration As financial stability creates breathing room, faith and community bring lasting change by restoring dignity, hope, and unity that shape families and communities for generations Read more here

We are committed to investing in opportunities for spiritual growth and transformation across all sectors of our work, from our members to local Church Leaders to our staff in Uganda, South Sudan, and the US. That is why we integrate Bible Studies, Soul Care, Church Leader Conferences, and Spiritual Staff Retreats into our rhythms throughout the year.

When Betty Juan arrived in Uganda as a refugee from South Sudan, she was responsible for six dependents and struggling to meet even the most basic needs That trajectory shifted in December 2023 when she joined a Seed Effect savings group, gaining access to financial training and savings In her first savings cycle alone, Betty saved 570,000 UGX (~$150 USD) and leveraged group loans to expand her tailoring and mandazi businesses A pivotal 500,000 UGX (~$131.58 USD) loan enabled her to purchase a sewing machine, an investment that not only increased household income and enabled her to pay school fees, but also positioned her as a community trainer. To date, four young women have learned tailoring skills under Betty’s mentorship, with flexible payment plans making training accessible. Today, Betty owns two sewing machines, has diversified income through six chickens, provides consistent, nutritious meals for her family, and participates in a weekly Bible study that has strengthened her faith and leadership

“Eating was not easy, and getting money to support my family was very difficult After I joined the Seed Effect group, I learned many valuable lessons, one of the most important being how to manage my money Whenever I faced challenges or needed to buy something, I could go to the group and borrow a loan to support myself The business brought many benefits I can now help myself, take care of my family, and pay for my children’s school fees ”
From forced displacement to economic stability and community impact, Betty’s journey demonstrates how access to savings, capital, and discipleship can multiply impact, transforming one woman’s resilience into opportunity for many.
