ANNUAL REPORT

![]()

Dear friends,
The Seattle Symphony’s 2024/2025 season was filled with memorable moments, extraordinary music and celebrations that illustrated the power of music to bring our community together and lift the human spirit.
The season began with the milestone announcement of Xian Zhang as our next Music Director. During the season, Xian appeared twice as Music Director Designate — first in March, conducting Gustav Holst’s The Planets, and later, in one of the season’s final performances, she was joined by Hilary Hahn for Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. These concerts were among the most highly anticipated of the year and offered an inspiring glimpse of our Symphony’s bright future under Xian’s artistic leadership.
Conductor Emeritus Ludovic Morlot returned to the podium on Opening Night, and throughout the season we celebrated the extraordinary artistry within our own orchestra. Concertmaster Noah Geller and Principal Cello Efe Baltacıgil joined forces for Johannes Brahms’ Double Concerto. Principal Harp Valerie Muzzolini performed alongside pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet in the world premiere of Benjamin Attahir’s Hanoï Songs
Associate Principal Cello Meeka Quan DiLorenzo shared the stage with cellist Abel Selaocoe in a dynamic duet from Giovanni Sollima’s When We Were Trees. And in one of the season’s final concerts, Principal Flute Demarre McGill performed the West Coast premiere of Rhapsody on a Theme by Joni, composed by Allison Loggins-Hull.
Together we also celebrated our community through meaningful collaborations and events. In January 2025, the Symphony presented Black Panther in concert, featuring Marvel Studios’ film with the orchestra performing the score live. Through the thoughtful guidance of a Community Advisory Board, audiences were invited to engage more deeply with the cultures and artistic traditions reflected in the film. That same month, we hosted our inaugural Lunar New Year Gala, and in March, the orchestra performed The Healing Heart of the First People of This Land, a powerful reprisal of composer Bruce Ruddell’s orchestral translation of Indigenous healing traditions, first premiered by the Symphony in 2006.
Looking ahead, May 2025 also marked the announcement of the Amplify capital campaign, an ambitious initiative to transform the public spaces of Benaroya Hall and reinvest in this cultural landmark at the heart of our city.
The 2024/2025 season was a preview of an exciting new era for the Seattle Symphony and Benaroya Hall — that is only just beginning. We are deeply grateful to the many supporters whose generosity and belief in this orchestra make our work possible. You are sustaining the music we share today and helping to ensure that live music continues to inspire, connect and uplift our community for generations to come.
With our gratitude,

Susan Coughlin Board Chair

OUR MISSION: The Seattle Symphony unleashes the power of music, brings people together, and lifts the human spirit.

In the 2024/2025 season, the Seattle Symphony increased ticket revenue by 7.5% over the previous fiscal year to $14.4M. Total earned revenue, including rental income, reached $18.0M, an increase of 6.6% over the prior fiscal year.
Overall fundraising increased from $13.5M to $17.8M, reflecting strong donor support. Our community remained generous, making it possible for the Symphony to continue to expand our programming to grow our existing audience and reach new people in the community.
This expansion, coupled with elevated inflation, led to increased investment in our programs, education and community engagement initiatives, and administrative infrastructure. To help offset these investments, we utilized the remaining $0.2M from our operating reserve.
The Seattle Symphony Foundation assets grew from $49.2M to $50.3M, driven by $1.1M in new gifts and $3.3M in dividends and investment appreciation.
Benaroya Hall net assets increased from $53.2M to $57.6M, supported by gifts to the Amplify campaign.
As we continue to navigate the financial landscape of today, the Seattle Symphony remains deeply grateful to our dedicated supporters whose generosity sustains our mission. Thank you for helping to keep the music playing for everyone in our community!
