Island Insider

LETTER FROM THE EDITORS
Written by Eve Boggs
When we began shaping this edition of The Island Insider, we kept returning to one word: green. Not just because March carries hints of St. Patrick’s Day or the long-awaited return of spring, but because green represents something deeper luck, growth, grounding, renewal. Thus, March has become somewhat of our “Green Issue.”
March is the month where intentions either take root or are gently replanted. In January, many of us set goals ambitious, hopeful, forward-facing. By March, the energy has shifted. The novelty has worn off, and what remains is choice. Do we root down into those commitments and nurture them? Or do we reimagine them into something that better serves us as we move toward spring? Growth lies in both paths.
There’s something beautifully honest about March. The weather can’t quite make up its mind warm sunshine one day, brisk coastal wind the next, and sometimes you get both in the same 24 hours. It reminds us that progress isn’t linear. That seasons overlap. That change is rarely tidy. And yet, beneath it all, we know spring is coming because we can feel it all around the island and the Club.
The calendar begins to fill and all across Charleston, the city itself seems to hit its stride just as we do here on the island. March is the bridge steady, hopeful, and full of possibility.
We’re especially excited for this month because we’ll soon welcome our new General Manager & COO, Brendan P. Clark, to Seabrook Island Club. New leadership always brings fresh perspective, and we look forward to meeting Brendan and beginning that next chapter together as a Club community.
Whether you are grounding yourself in long-held goals, trying something entirely different, signing up for a Member–Guest, attending your first Horse Code session, or simply enjoying a quiet walk as the landscape shifts around you we hope this issue meets you where you are.
Green is what happens when we choose anks for reading the “Green Issue!”
With gratitude,

A SMALL SCOOP, A BIG DIFFERENCE
THE ART (AND RESPONSIBILITY) OF FILLING YOUR DIVOTS
There are few sounds in golf more satisfying than the crisp thwack of a well-struck iron shot. The ball lifts cleanly into the air, right on target… and just behind it? A tidy little reminder of your success a divot.
Now comes the part that separates good golfers from great Members.
Filling your divot may seem like a small task, but as highlighted in our recent Coaching Corner video, it is one of the simplest and most important ways we care for our courses and for one another.
Why Divots Matter
Every divot left un-repaired is more than just a patch of missing turf. It’s:
A disruption to course conditions
A potential uneven lie for the next player
A delay in healthy turf recovery
Our agronomy team works tirelessly to present exceptional playing conditions. When Members consistently repair divots, recovery time is dramatically reduced and fairways remain smoother, healthier, and more playable for everyone.
In short: a 10-second effort protects months of maintenance.
The Proper Technique (Yes, There’s a Right Way!)
If you ’ ve ever wondered whether you ’ re doing it correctly, here’s your quick refresher:
1.Retrieve the Sand Bottle: There should always be one on your cart before you begin your round.
2.Fill Don’t Bury: Pour sand into the divot until it is level with the surrounding turf. The goal is to fill the void, not create a mound.
3.Smooth It Out: Use your foot or club to gently level the sand so it sits flush with the fairway surface.
That’s it. No need to overpack or stomp just a smooth, even finish.
The Takeaway: The next time you strike that perfect iron shot and lift a neat strip of turf into the air, take a moment to finish the job.
A small scoop. A quick smooth. A fairway restored.
At Seabrook Island Club, excellence lives in the details and sometimes, it’s as simple as filling your divot. It truly is one of the smallest habits that creates the biggest impact.

RACQUET SPORTS
DIRECTOR OF RACQUET SPORTS LAURA FERRAIRA

There’s an unmistakable energy on the courts in March. As temperatures warm and daylight stretches into the evening, tennis and pickleball settle into a lively spring cadence. Rallies grow longer, matches grow more competitive, and social play fills the schedule.
This month blends spirited tournament play with skill development and social connection. Whether you ’ re competing in a Member-Member, hosting a guest on court, or investing in your game through clinics and lessons, March is about momentum. It’s about movement, camaraderie, and that satisfying rhythm of ball meeting racquet under a bright Seabrook sky.
AN UNMISSABLE DAY ON THE COURTS: 2026 PICKLEBALL
MEMBER–GUEST TOURNAMENT
There is something unmistakably energizing about late March on the pickleball courts at Seabrook Island Club. The air is warmer, the rhythm of play is sharper, and the courts hum with anticipation. On Saturday, March 21, that energy will culminate in one of the Racquet Club’s most anticipated new spring traditions the 2026 Pickleball Member–Guest Tournament.
Designed to celebrate spirited competition and shared experience, the Member–Guest is more than a day of match play. It is an opportunity to introduce friends to the Seabrook way of life, to compete with purpose, and to enjoy the camaraderie that makes our Racquet community so distinctive.
The Spirit of Member–Guest
At its heart, this event is built around Member + Guest teams. Members are encouraged to invite a partner of their choosing a longtime playing companion, a visiting friend, or a competitive counterpart eager to experience Seabrook hospitality firsthand.
If registration numbers require, a limited number of Member + Member teams or Guest + Guest pairings may be permitted to complete divisions. However, the priority remains clear: true Member–Guest teams that reflect the intent and tradition of the day.
For Members eager to compete but still in search of a guest, the Racquet Club staff stands ready to assist. Contact Pickleball Pro Alex Holdgate, and every effort will be made to ensure that those who wish to play have the opportunity to do so.
A Day Structured for Play
To maximize both court time and enjoyment, the tournament will unfold in two thoughtfully designed sessions, utilizing all seven pickleball courts and hosting up to 18 teams per session.
Morning play will be from 8:30 AM - 12:00 PM followed by a complimentary lunch from 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM, offering a chance to relax, reconnect, and prepare for the afternoon sessions from 1:30 - 5 PM. This two-session format allows competitors to test their game in both gender and mixed divisions while maintaining an enjoyable pace and avoiding excessive fatigue. The result is a day that feels full but never rushed.
Competitive Integrity, Thoughtfully Designed
Each division will include a minimum of six teams to ensure meaningful match play and competitive balance. Ideally, divisions will be evenly filled, though final sizes will reflect registration demand.
Play will unfold in two distinct phases: Round-Robin Play and a Playoff Bracket.
This structure ensures ample court time while preserving the drama and focus of bracket play — a format that rewards both steady performance and competitive resilience.
At the conclusion of each session, awards will be presented to the top three teams in each division. But as with all great Member–Guest events, the measure of success extends beyond podium finishes. It lives in the long rallies, the strategic adjustments, the shared smiles across the net, and the stories carried home at day’s end.
A Celebration of Play & Partnership
The Pickleball Member–Guest is a showcase of Seabrook Island Club at its best competitive yet welcoming, spirited yet gracious. It is a day that blends athletic challenge with hospitality, and tradition with forward momentum.
We look forward to welcoming you and your guests on March 21 for a day defined by energy, camaraderie, and the unmistakable rhythm of pickleball at Seabrook.
Please click here to learn more and to register. In the meantime, consider who you will invite — and prepare for a memorable day on the courts!

It is a season that encourages confidence and forward motion, perfectly aligned with the spirit of the Year of the Horse.

HORSE CODE: AN EQUINE WELLNESS EXPERIENCE
The Equestrian Center is very excited to announce its new equine wellness program: Horse Code.
What is Horse Code?
Horse Code is a grounded, nature-led encounter designed to restore awareness, clarity, and calm no riding required. Think of it as an invitation to slow down. Set within the natural landscape of Seabrook Island, each session invites participants to engage with horses from the ground through quiet observation, mindful interaction, and gentle awareness practices. Horses — highly attuned to their environment — naturally invite stillness, reflection, and clarity. This is an intimate, unhurried experience. One that unfolds at the pace of nature.
Horse Code Encourages Presence Without Words
Horses communicate through subtlety, awareness, and attunement. As prey animals, they are exquisitely sensitive to their surroundings — responding not to language, but to energy, intention, and presence. When humans slow down, regulate their breath, and soften their focus, horses respond in kind. This natural feedback loop invites calm, clarity, and connection — often without a single word spoken. In the presence of horses, stillness becomes instructive.
What To Expect
Each Horse Code session is fully guided and intentionally unhurried. Sessions include:
Gentle arrival and orientation
Guided grounding and awareness practices
Quiet observation and mindful interaction with horses
Reflection and integration
A calm, intentional close
No riding. No rush. Just space to arrive fully. No prior experience with horses is required.
True luxury is not excess. True luxury is the rare experience of presence, connection, and renewal...and horses offer all three.

HORSE OF THE MONTH
Meet our first Horse of the Month to kickoff the Year of the Horse: Mia owned by Member Geri Mooney.
This beautiful 5-year-old mare joined the Seabrook Island Equestrian Center family in October when her owner, Geri Mooney, rescued her from New Vocations Thoroughbred Rescue. Geri winters with us from Vermont and has been enjoying getting to know Mia during her first season on the island.
Before arriving at Seabrook, Mia was trained in western disciplines and spent time cutting cows — a testament to her athleticism, focus, and versatility. Now, she’s embracing a new chapter and proving just how adaptable she truly is.
When asked her favorite thing about Mia, Geri doesn’t hesitate: “She has such a good brain! She’s beautiful and kind and the world is our oyster.”

With her steady mind, willing heart, and bright future ahead, Mia is a wonderful example of the potential and promise that comes from giving a horse a second chance. We can’t wait to see where this partnership goes next.

A FRESH CLOSET, A FRESH SEASON MAKING ROOM FOR SPRING
Get a jump on your spring cleaning and start organizing your closet now! Hint: you may want to make a little room before the Seabrook Shoppe reopens for the season on Friday, March 13.
There’s something about early March on the island that invites a reset. The days stretch a little longer, the air softens, and suddenly we find ourselves reaching for lighter layers and brighter colors. It’s the perfect moment to turn that seasonal energy inward starting with your wardrobe.
Before the Seabrook Shoppe opens its doors again, consider this your friendly nudge to refresh, refine, and reorganize.
Step One: The Great Closet Edit
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to mean emptying every drawer onto the bed (unless that sparks joy for you). Instead, approach it thoughtfully: Pull everything out you didn’t wear last spring or summer. If it didn’t make it out of the hanger last year, ask yourself why. Check for fit and function. Does it still move well for golf, pickleball, or an evening at the Island House?
Retire what’s tired. Faded polos, stretched-out waistbands, and wellloved-but-overworn staples may have earned their rest. A well-edited closet creates clarity. And clarity makes getting dressed effortless whether you ’ re heading to the course, courts, barn, or brunch.
Step Two: Reorganize with Intention
Once you ’ ve pared down, reset your space for the season ahead: Group like items together (golf shirts with golf shirts, light layers in one place, resort wear in another). Move spring and summer pieces to eye level. Store heavier winter layers out of immediate reach. When your wardrobe reflects the season you ’ re in, it’s easier to dress confidently — and quickly — for whatever the Club calendar brings.
Step Three: Think Versatility
Spring at Seabrook calls for pieces that transition seamlessly:
Lightweight layers for breezy mornings on the course.
Polished yet relaxed attire for casual dinners.
Performance fabrics that carry you from activity to social hour. When evaluating your closet, look for items that do more than one job. The most useful pieces are those that move with you throughout your day.
Step Four: Leave a Little Space
The final and perhaps most exciting step? Leave a little breathing room! Spring is about renewal. It’s about subtle shifts in color, fabric, and feel. It’s about stepping into the season with a sense of freshness and possibility. Creating a bit of extra hanger space now ensures you ’ re ready for what’s next.
A Season of Style at Seabrook
As the Seabrook Shoppe prepares to reopen, consider this your seasonal cue to refresh, refine, and reset. There’s something uniquely satisfying about starting spring with a closet that feels intentional and ready.
After all, the season is changing. The island is waking up. And your wardrobe might just be ready for its own fresh start.
We look forward to welcoming you back to the Seabrook Shoppe soon and to stepping into spring together in effortless Seabrook style. Be on the lookout for some of these must-have Seabrook Shoppe brands:
