Summer in the Lowcountry is everything. It is hot, bright, and sometimes unforgiving, but it also has a way of wrapping around us, slowing us down, and reminding us of the beautiful life we are fortunate to share here along the coast.

This July, as communities across the country begin to look ahead to America’s 250th anniversary, we also find ourselves reflecting on a milestone of our own: 35 years of Seabrook Island Club. It is a moment to honor the memories, traditions, and people who have shaped this Island, while also looking forward to the future we continue to build together.

Whether you have called Seabrook home for years or are experiencing it for the first time, there is something here worth holding onto. Members, guests, staff, families, and friends all arrive on this Island in search of something beautiful. For some, it is the first glimpse of the ocean. For others, it is a round of golf, a walk on the beach, a meal shared with loved ones, or a quiet reminder of why this place matters.

As Seabrook grows and changes, we welcome the beauty of what is ahead while staying rooted in what makes this Island so special. This community has always been shaped by the people who care for it, celebrate it, and return to it season after season.

So as we gather in red, white, and blue to celebrate our country, our Club, and the summer season, may we also remember what brings us here: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, lived out in our own special way on Seabrook Island.

Dear Members,

July has a way of slowing everything down to the pace that matters most, evenings at the Nest, long walks on the beach, a fun game of golf, and the kind of gathering that only happens when family and friends make the trip back to the island. Whether you ' re hosting visiting relatives or carving out a quiet week with your own crew, I hope this month finds you settling into all the things that make Seabrook feel like home.

It's also a month where I find myself genuinely energized by how engaged this membership continues to be. Over the past several weeks, many of you have taken the time to share your thoughts on the Expanding Horizons initiative in person, in writing, and at our coffee sessions with the Board. I want you to know that every conversation has shaped how we ' re thinking about this work. Whether your feedback was enthusiastic, skeptical, or somewhere in between, it's exactly the kind of engagement that makes Seabrook Island Club a community worth investing in.

Of course, July wouldn't be July without our celebration of the holiday, and this year ' s July 3rd festivities are shaping up to be one of our biggest yet! Our team is so excited to host you and your families for fireworks, live music, games, classic American cuisine and more! This year we will welcome 5,000 plus attendees, and with a crowd that size, safety is always front of mind. If you ' re planning to travel by LSV to the festivities, please use the designated LSV parking area and the travel route outlined in the July 3rd bulletin. These routes were designed with everyone ' s safety in mind, especially given how much foot and vehicle traffic the celebration draws. We appreciate your patience and cooperation in helping us keep the evening fun and, most importantly, safe for every family on the island.

Beyond our annual celebration, July's calendar is full of activities for all ages ranging from wine dinners and parties at Ocean Terrace to fun camps including Rally & Ride and Racquets & Clubs. A full lineup of events, hours, and details is located in the pages ahead. I hope you and your families have a wonderful Independence Day, and I look forward to seeing many of you out celebrating together.

MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD OF GOVERNORS

Coming together as Seabrook Island Club for the Fourth of July is always one of the true highlights of our season. Each year, more than 5,000 Members, guests, families, friends, neighbors, and staff gather across the Club to celebrate our country and the privilege of doing so in a place as beautiful and meaningful as Seabrook Island.

This holiday reminds us of so much that makes our community special. We welcome loved ones from near and far to enjoy celebrations all over the Island, from a round of golf with family to a sunny pickleball match, a day by the beach, or even a beach ride with grandchildren. Seabrook offers all of this and more, and we are deeply grateful for the opportunity to enjoy it together.

In that same spirit of celebration, community, and continual growth, I would also like to thank everyone who joined us at the June Open Member Meeting. Your presence, engagement, and thoughtful involvement are essential as we look toward the future of the Club and the life we share here. We are looking forward to the upcoming small group meetings, where we will have the opportunity to further discuss the Expanding Horizons plan, answer questions, and receive additional input from Members.

As with any meaningful vision for the future, this process will bring many conversations, careful decisions, and, no doubt, both challenges and opportunities. Our goal remains the same: to help raise the Club to its greatest potential while honoring the reasons so many of us chose Seabrook in the first place. We appreciate the support, feedback, and care Members continue to bring to this important work.

We are truly fortunate to have Seabrook Island Club at our fingertips and to enjoy life in this remarkable place. I look forward to seeing many familiar faces during the Independence Day celebrations across the Club, as well as the guests and new faces who will join us for the occasion. We are lucky to have the opportunity to celebrate together, to call Seabrook home, and to share in the freedoms and traditions that make this holiday so meaningful.

Now more than ever, in so many ways, we are reminded of the importance of coming together as a community. May this July be a celebration not only of our country, but also of the Club, the Island, and the people who continue to make Seabrook such a special place.

Seabrook Ladies Shine in Regional Competition

We would like to recognize the outstanding success our ladies have enjoyed while representing Seabrook Island Club in competitions across the Lowcountry.

Cathy Martin recently won the Super Senior Championship Flight at the 2026 City of Charleston Ladies Amateur Tournament, posting a two-day gross score of +23 at Charleston Municipal Golf Course.

In addition, Seabrook teams captured first place in all three flights at the Women's South Carolina Golf Association 2-Person Chapman held at The Golf Club at Wescott Plantation. Flight winners were Cinda Althoff & Sandra Doorley, Tracy Thorne & Kathy Bruce, and Deb Ott & Sally Burke.

These accomplishments reflect the strength and depth of women ' s golf at Seabrook Island Club. Congratulations to all of our competitors for representing the club with such distinction.

The SILGA Head Cover Classic returns this summer on July 29th, and this year ' s tournament includes a fundraiser for the Boys and Girls Club of Charleston!

KNOWING THE RULES

Many of you have headed to your clubs up north for the summer and will be competing in tournaments such as member guests and club championships. Knowing some of the rules and how to take full or proper relief will greatly benefit you as you head into the championship season.

Red Penalty Areas - Your relief options are:

1.Play it as it lies: If your ball goes into a hazard, you may play it as it lies without penalty. If it is unplayable, you have the following relief options (each costing one stroke). You may ground your club, touch the ground with a practice swing, and remove any loose impediment or obstructions (as long as the obstruction is not immovable).

2.Stroke and Distance: Play a ball from where you made the previous shot.

3.Back-on-the-Line: Keep the point where the ball last crossed the hazard in a direct line between the hole and your drop point. You can go as far back on that line as you want.

4.Lateral Relief (Most Common): Drop your ball within two club-lengths of the spot where it last crossed the margin of the hazard, no closer to the hole.

a.Don’t forget, you can use your driver as the club to take relief with, even if that is not the club you intend to hit. This gives you the maximum amount of relief away from the hazard.

INSIDE THE GRASS

July 2026

July’s maintenance program will shift to Ocean Winds as we continue our annual efforts to improve playing conditions and long-term turf health. Following the success of the recent work at Crooked Oaks, we will use many of the same practices at Ocean Winds.

Course Closure Schedule

Ocean Winds will close on July 13 and reopen on July 24. During this time, our team will undertake several important projects designed to improve turf health and playability for the coming year

Greens and Course Improvements

We will use our Drill and Fill aeration process on the greens, creating deeper channels to relieve compaction and improve root development. The greens will then receive smaller aeration holes to help the larger channels close more quickly and restore smooth playing conditions. The staff will also verticut the greens in several directions and top-dress them with a mid-grade sand to improve surface smoothness, promote healthy growth, and speed recovery.

The remainder of the course will be aerated from path to path, and the process is expected to continue into the second week to address all turf areas. As we did on Crooked Oaks, our staff will also work in the bunkers by checking sand depths and adding material where necessary.

Drainage and Tree Management

During the closure, we will trim dead limbs and selectively prune trees that obstruct tee and fairway areas. Another major project involves installing additional drainage around several greens, particularly Nos. 1 and 8. These improvements will help reduce winter wetness that can lead to thinning turf conditions.

We will also address some of the shade issues around these greens by removing or trimming trees that cast excessive winter shade. Improving sunlight exposure should lead to healthier turf conditions during late winter and early spring.

Turf Recovery and Paspalum Conversion

Finally, we will be sodding several thin areas on tees and in shaded rough locations. The front tees, in particular, struggled during the transition from winter overseeding. Cooler spring temperatures and limited rainfall allowed the ryegrass to persist longer than normal, delaying Bermuda recovery.

Many of these areas have already begun to improve, but some will be resodded with Paspalum. We have committed to using Paspalum on both courses because it performs exceptionally well in our environment. It tolerates shade better than Bermuda and thrives despite our irrigation water’s elevated sodium levels, making it the ideal long-term turfgrass for our courses.

Looking Ahead

Our team will be exceptionally busy over the next month, and we appreciate your patience and support as we complete these projects. We are confident these improvements will enhance playing conditions for the year ahead, and we look forward to seeing you on the course.

Thank you to everyone who participated throughout the inaugural Pickleball IntraLeague season! It has been wonderful to see the enthusiasm, teamwork, and sportsmanship displayed by all players and teams. We are especially grateful to our Captains and Co-Captains for their hard work coordinating lineups, players, and match days. Seabrook Island Club is excited to offer two one-of-a-kind programs combining Seabrook Island’s premier amenities into unforgettable summer camp experiences designed for all skill levels. Registration is open now for both of these 2026 Summer Camp sessions.

HORSE OF THE MONTH

Meet our July Horse of the Month: 26-year-old, Cookies & Cream affectionately known around the barn as Cookie, owned by Somer Hand. Cookie is a black and white paint colored Trakehner / Spotted Saddle Horse cross with a sweet personality and eye-catching presence.

Cookie has the athletic, get up and go mode of his dad, a big black eventing stallion named Amethyst and the laid back, affectionate bareback on a trail ride mode of his mom (a brown and white kids’ trail pony named Chunk-E-Cheese). As Somer says, “He is the best of both worlds and always down for anything we try, whether it’s a big scary cross-country jump, advancing our natural horsemanship skills on the ground or dressing up for Halloween!”

Somer met Cookie when she was 12 years old and he was only 6 years old. Her first impression was that he was too much horse for her and that she wasn’t strong enough or experienced enough to ride him. She took him home on a two-week trial, and by the end of it they were both hopelessly in love. Somer describes Cookie as “Loyal, strong, adaptable, gentle and loving.”

Her favorite memory with Cookie isn’t one moment, it’s growing up together. Since they’ve been together for the past 20 years, Cookie has been there for every milestone in Somer’s life – from being a horse-crazy kid to becoming a wife and mother. “Looking back through old photos and seeing him standing beside me through every chapter is something I’ll always treasure,” says Somer, “All the ordinary moments, late evenings at the barn after everyone else had gone home, trail rides with no destination, and simply sitting with him in his stall after a hard day, those are the moments that built our partnership.” If she had to choose a favorite, she shared that one of her favorite memories is introducing Cookie to her daughter. In Somer’s words, “He carried me through so many stages of life, and seeing the horse who helped raise me gently meet the little girl I’m raising felt like two of the most important parts of my world coming together.”

Growing up riding taught Somer responsibility and discipline, but more than anything, Cookie showed her how big her heart can be. “He’s taught me to be brave when trying new things and to trust in the strength of my heart, mind and body. Somehow, everything feels possible when he’s by my side.” They have also overcome challenges together. “He’s been with me through every phase of life, from middle school to college relationships, career changes, meeting the new guy in my life who would become my husband, pregnancy and becoming a mom. Together, we ’ ve mourned the loss of one of his best friends and my other beloved horse, Eclipse. We’ve moved across state lines and started over in new places more than once. Through it all, we ’ ve been each other’s constant for 20 years. ”

Their current goal is working on staying strong and healthy as Cookie progresses further into his 20s, while continuing to maintain dressage training to be able to pop over to a couple of dressage shows when they get the chance. A typical day for Cookie includes breakfast, supervising the barn from his paddock, reminding everyone when it’s time for snacks, a ride or grooming session, dinner, and a well-earned nap. Occasionally, he’ll squeeze in some dressage work or a trail ride between meals. Cookie’s all-time favorite snack is sweet and surprising: Fruit Loops!

ANNUAL INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

A Preview of the Island’s Biggest Celebration of the Year

Each summer, Seabrook Island Club’s Independence Day Celebration brings together everything we love about this community: family, friends, music, food, fireworks, and the unmistakable beauty of a summer evening on the Island.

This year ’ s celebration will take place on Friday, July 3, 2026, at the Island House and Driving Range, where Members, guests, families, neighbors, and staff will gather for one of the most anticipated events of the Club season. With the 250th anniversary of America as the inspiration for this year ’ s red, white, and blue celebration, the evening promises to be a memorable tribute to the traditions, freedoms, and shared experiences that bring us together.

The Driving Range Lawn will open at 4:00 PM for chair placement, giving families the chance to settle in early before food, bars, entertainment, and activities begin. From live music on the main stage to family-friendly games, face painting, fairy hair, mini putt-putt, and a grand fireworks finale at 9:00 PM, the celebration is designed for all ages to enjoy.

For many, this event is more than a holiday gathering. It is a Seabrook tradition. It is the sight of children running across the lawn, the sound of music drifting over the course, the smell of summer cookout favorites, and the shared anticipation as everyone looks toward the sky for the first burst of fireworks.

Schedule, Tickets & Transportation

With thousands expected to gather for the celebration, a little planning will help make the evening even more enjoyable. Members and guests are encouraged to walk, bike, or take the shuttle whenever possible, and to bring their own lawn chairs for seating on the Driving Range Lawn.

Event Schedule

4:00 PM | Driving Range Lawn opens for chair placement.

5:00 PM | Food and bars open for service.

6:00 PM | Entertainment begins on the Main Stage on the Driving Range.

8:00 PM | Food and bar service ends. Food & beverage ticket sales also end.

9:00 PM | Fireworks begin. Food and bars will close when the fireworks begin. 10:15 PM | Last trolley departs from the Island House.

Food & Beverage Tickets

Food and beverage tickets are required to purchase items from event food and drink stations. Each ticket is valued at $5, inclusive of tax and service charge. Food and beverage items will be priced in ticket increments, making it easy to plan ahead for dinner, drinks, snacks, and dessert.

Credit cards, cash, and Member Charge will not be accepted at the food stations, so Members and guests should be sure to purchase tickets before visiting the food and beverage areas. All ticket sales are final, and no refunds or returns will be issued.

Event week ticket sales will take place in the Atlantic Ballroom on Thursday, July 2, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and again during the event on Friday, July 3, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.

Getting Around

To help ease traffic and parking around the Island House, trolley service will be available between the Lake House and Island House throughout the celebration.

From 4:30 to 10:30 PM, two trolleys will run continuously between the Lake House and Island House. From 9:00 to 10:30 PM, a third trolley will be added to provide additional transportation after the fireworks.

Guests are encouraged to park at the Lake House and use the trolley loop for convenient access to the event.

Please Remember

For everyone ’ s safety and enjoyment, outside food, drinks, coolers, and pets are not permitted at the event. Attendees interested in purchasing alcohol must receive a 21+ ID bracelet. Multiple ID check stations will be available at the ticketing tables in the Atlantic Room and two ID check stations will be outside near the bars.

Music, Fireworks, & Family Fun

An Evening of Entertainment Across the Island House Lawn

The July 3rd Celebration is designed to be enjoyed from the moment Members and guests arrive. From music and movement to interactive children’s activities, the evening will offer entertainment for every age and every kind of celebration style.

The Main Stage on the Driving Range will anchor the evening’s live entertainment. The lineup will include an opening acoustic performance by Rotie Salley, a high-energy breakdancing performance from Kotic & The Break Circuit, and a headline performance by Midnight City Band. Together, the lineup will bring a festive mix of music, performance, and summer energy to the heart of the celebration.

As the sun sets over the Island House, families can enjoy a full slate of complimentary activities throughout the event area. The celebration will include a 9-hole mini putt-putt course, inflatable carnival games, a video game truck, balloons by Brittany, fairy hair, face painting, bracelet making, and the Holy City Photobooth.

These activities are part of what makes the evening such a beloved Seabrook tradition. Children can move from games to crafts to sweet summer treats, while adults enjoy live music, refreshments, and time with friends under the red, white, and blue.

Free Family-Friendly Activities

Mini Putt-Putt: A 9-hole mini putt-putt course will bring a playful golf-inspired activity to the celebration.

Carnival Games: Inflatable games will add classic summer fun to the event lawn.

Video Game Truck: A favorite for kids and teens, the video game truck offers a cool and interactive activity during the evening.

Face Painting & Fairy Hair: Festive, colorful, and always popular, these stations will bring extra sparkle to the holiday celebration.

Balloon Artist & Bracelet Making: Creative activities will give younger guests a chance to take home something special from the night.

Holy City Photobooth: Families and friends can capture a memory from the evening before the fireworks begin.

A Taste of the Celebration

Food, Drinks, & All-American Favorites

No Independence Day celebration would be complete without classic summer food, cold drinks, and plenty of options for the whole family. This year ’ s July 3rd menu will feature a variety of stations across the event area, including outdoor bars, the Pizza Kitchen, the Seabrook Island Club Food Truck, and the All-American Buffet on the Putting Green.

Food and beverages at the event must be purchased using event tickets and items will range in price from one to three tickets, depending on the selection. Additional food & beverage tickets will be available for purchase during the event in the Atlantic Ballroom from 5 - 8 PM on Friday, July 3 . rd

Members Only Bar in the Bohicket Lounge

For Members looking for a more relaxed place to enjoy the evening, the Bohicket Lounge will become a Members-only retreat beginning at 5:00 PM on Friday, July 3. With drinks available by Member charge, the Lounge offers a comfortable spot to cool off, gather with friends, and take in the excitement of the celebration from inside the Island House.

Please note that the Bohicket Lounge will serve drinks only and will be walk-up bar service only. Cash, cards, and event food & beverage tickets will not be accepted as payment in this area. No food will be served in the Lounge, but Members are welcome to visit the event food stations throughout the celebration area for dining options.

A Night to Remember

From the first lawn chairs placed on the Driving Range to the final trolley leaving the Island House, Seabrook Island Club’s Independence Day Celebration is one of the defining moments of the summer season. It is a night for neighbors to reconnect, families to gather, children to celebrate, and guests to experience the Island at its most festive.

As fireworks light up the sky over Seabrook, we are reminded of the simple joy of gathering together in a place we love. This July, we look forward to celebrating our country, our community, and another unforgettable summer evening at Seabrook Island Club. Happy Independence Day, Seabrook!

A Final Note on Celebration Safety, Transportation, & LSV Access Guidelines

Event Safety Reminders

For everyone ’ s safety and enjoyment, no outside food, drinks, coolers, or pets are permitted at the event.

As the evening concludes with fireworks, Members and guests are asked to remain in designated viewing areas and keep a safe distance from the fireworks launch site. Please follow all posted signage and staff direction throughout the evening.

We also encourage all Members to plan ahead for a safe ride home. Please do not drink and drive. Trolleys will be available throughout the evening to assist with transportation between the Lake House and Island House

Transportation Trolleys will run on a continuous loop between the Lake House and Island House during the celebration.

4:30–10:30 PM: Two trolleys will run on a loop between the Lake House and Island House.

9:00–10:30 PM: A third trolley will be added to provide additional transportation following the fireworks and as Members depart the event.

LSV Access & Parking

To help ensure the safety of walkers, bikers, LSV drivers, and event guests, the Club has established designated LSV access and parking for the celebration.

Designated LSV-only parking will be located near Crooked Oaks #18 and should be accessed via the cart path entrance on Seabrook Island Road, as shown on the map.

LSVs are highly encouraged to park in this designated area and should not be parked on the golf courses outside of the specified parking location.

On July 3, the cart path access points on High Hammock Road leading toward the Island House will be designated as walking and biking only before, during, and after the event. To keep pedestrians and cyclists safe, LSVs will not be permitted to enter or exit through the High Hammock Road cart path access points shown on the attached map.

Members arriving by LSV should use the designated Seabrook Island Road access point to enter Crooked Oaks at Hole 18 and park only in the marked LSV parking area.

HONORING THE MEMBER-LED MOMENT THAT SHAPED OUR FUTURE

On Sunday, June 28, 2026, Seabrook Island Club proudly celebrated its 35th Anniversary an occasion that invites us to look back with gratitude on the vision, courage, and determination that helped shape the Club and community we know today.

The anniversary is marked from June 28, 1991, the date the transaction between Seabrook Island Associates and Bank South closed in escrow, allowing Club Members to purchase the assets of the former Seabrook Island Ocean Club out of bankruptcy. While the Club officially assumed control of the purchased assets shortly thereafter, June 28 stands as the pivotal moment when the future of Seabrook Island Club was placed into the hands of its Members. Much of this history has been carefully preserved in The History of the Seabrook Island Club, authored by Ken Ingram, former Secretary of the Seabrook Island Club in 2010, along with Ron Ciancio his committee and many current and past Club Members.

On March 18, 1991, Seabrook Island Associates and Bank South reached an agreement for the purchase of the former Seabrook Island Ocean Club assets for $9.5 million. On April 22, 1991, “The Club at Seabrook Island, Inc.” was incorporated. The first meeting of the Club’s Board of Governors followed on April 29. Then, on June 28, 1991, the newly constituted Board formally approved the purchase, and the transaction closed in escrow. A few weeks later, on July 12, the Club officially took charge of the assets. The Club’s publication at the time announced the moment with fitting excitement: “THE DEAL IS DONE! THE ASSETS ARE OURS.”

That moment changed everything. What had once been controlled by outside developers and operators was now Member-owned and Member-guided. The purchase secured the future of the golf courses, tennis facilities, Beach Club, Island House, Equestrian Center, pools, and other amenities that remain central to life on Seabrook Island today. It also affirmed a principle that continues to guide the Club 35 years later: Seabrook Island Club belongs to its Members, and its future is shaped by the people who care deeply about this community.

The early years following the purchase were marked by hard work and investment. The Club addressed needed repairs and improvements across its facilities, including work on the golf courses, tennis courts, Island House, Beach Club, pool areas, and Equestrian Center. These efforts helped restore confidence, rebuild momentum, and create the foundation for the Club’s continued evolution.

And we honor the generations of Members, staff, and community leaders who have continued to build on that legacy.

Thirty-five years later, Seabrook Island Club remains what those early leaders hoped it would become: a vibrant, Member-centered Club rooted in community, natural beauty, and a shared love of island life. As we look ahead to the next chapter, we do so with gratitude for the people who made this anniversary possible and with excitement for all that is still to come.

Seabrook Island Club is proud to congratulate Myles Smith of the Food and Beverage team as our May 2026 Employee of the Month.

Seabrook Island Club’s new Employee of the Month program was created to recognize team members who go above and beyond in their roles, demonstrate the Club’s core values, and make a positive impact on their colleagues, Members, guests, and the overall Club experience. Through this program, employees are invited to nominate their peers for outstanding service, teamwork, professionalism, and dedication.

Myles was selected as May’s Employee of the Month because of the steady, positive impact he makes on his team, our Members, and the Food and Beverage operation. His nominations highlighted his strong work ethic, contagious positive attitude, and willingness to go above and beyond no matter the circumstances.

As a Food Runner, Myles consistently demonstrates what it means to be a true team player. He supports his coworkers whenever needed, arrives on time and in proper uniform, and comes prepared each day with a helpful and enthusiastic mindset. Even during busy or challenging shifts, Myles maintains a positive attitude that lifts the team around him and helps create a welcoming experience for the Members he serves.

His dedication was especially evident during Memorial Day weekend, when the Club’s Food and Beverage outlets were extremely busy. When extra help was needed, whether that meant lending a hand, staying longer, or stepping into different areas, Myles was always willing to say yes.

Myles is routinely recognized by both peers and managers for the way he shows up for the team. His dependability, professionalism, humility, and cheerful spirit make him a valued member of the Club and a deserving recipient of this recognition.

When asked what accomplishment he is most proud of, Myles shared that winning Employee of the Month is a meaningful achievement. His coworkers describe him as humble, outgoing, and cheerful, and outside of work, he enjoys going to the movies, with Friday being his favorite film.
