February is often described as a month of love, but here at Seabrook Island Club, it feels more like a month of appreciation.
I’m happy to share some joyful news to begin. Anna welcomed her beautiful newborn in early January, and on behalf of our Members and staff, we are sending our warmest wishes to her and her family as they begin this special new chapter together. We look forward to welcoming her back in the months ahead and celebrating this exciting milestone with her.
During Anna’s time away, I’ve had the privilege of taking on more responsibility, and I cannot express enough gratitude for the support, encouragement, and kindness I’ve received from across the Club. From my first day at Seabrook Island Club in September, I’ve been met with generosity, collaboration, and genuine care from staff and Members alike. It’s a rare and wonderful thing to work alongside people who are so deeply invested in their work and in one another.
This February issue leans into that spirit of connection. You’ll find reflections from our staff leaders and Board of Governors sharing what they love most about Seabrook Island Club - small moments, lasting traditions, and the sense of belonging that binds us all. In many ways, this edition feels like a collection of love letters to a place we are fortunate to call home.
For me personally, starting this role at Seabrook has been a season of discovery and deep appreciation. I’ve fallen in love with the natural beauty of the island, especially on my quiet morning runs around the Lake House, the ever-present birdsong at all hours of the day, and the way the light shifts across the shore that I have the privilege of watching from my office window. I’ve found grounding moments at the Equestrian Center, joy in watching Members connect over shared experiences, and inspiration in the passion and dedication of our team. It’s a pleasure to help tell the story of a Club that is so alive with heart.
Thank you for welcoming me so warmly, for trusting me during this time, and for continuing to make Seabrook Island Club such a special plac connected, inspired, and reminded of all there is to love here
With gratitude,
MEMBER COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER
AnnaRidge
DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS

I write this letter knowing it will be my final message to you as President of the Seabrook Island Club Board of Governors. Serving in this role has been one of the great honors of my time as a Member, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to have contributed to a community that means so much to me.
Over the past four years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside exceptional fellow Board Members, a dedicated leadership team, and a staff whose commitment and care are evident in everything they do. Together, we ’ ve navigated moments of growth, celebrated milestones, and continued shaping the future of the Club with thoughtfulness and intention. I am proud of what we ’ ve accomplished and confident in the strong foundation we leave behind.
As we usher in our new President and the 2026 slate of the Board of Governors, I do so with optimism and excitement. The leadership stepping forward brings fresh perspective, energy, and a shared commitment to stewarding Seabrook Island Club with integrity and vision. I look forward to supporting them as a Member and watching the Club continue to evolve in meaningful ways.
I hope you’ll join me at the Annual Meeting on Saturday, February 14, as we formally welcome our new leadership and reflect on the year behind us. It will be a special opportunity to come together as a community, celebrate our shared accomplishments, and look ahead to what’s next.
Thank you for the trust you ’ ve placed in me, for the relationships built along the way, and for the privilege of serving this extraordinary Club. I look forward to seeing many of you soon and continuing to enjoy all that makes Seabrook Island Club such a remarkable place

Before heading out to do any physical sport, we should always warm up our muscles before we begin. It takes the muscles 45 seconds to even get warm in the first place before we can actually stretch them out properly. By coming to the range before you play, and doing a minute or 2 of stretches, or just swinging a golf club in a practice swing a few times before you hit balls for 30 minutes does not constitute a proper warm-up. This is an easy way to injure ourselves, as well as lose energy at the end of the round physically and mentally because our muscles are tired and sore.
All golfers should be doing at least a 10-minute dynamic warm-up. A dynamic warm-up is a series of active, movement-based exercises to prepare the body by increasing heart rate, blood flow, and muscle temperature. This is not just to warm up our arms that will be swinging the club, but to also stretch out the legs, hamstrings, core muscles, and open the hips to be able to properly turn in the golf swing.
After the 10-minute warm up, then we should do some drills with a golf club to feel our motions without a golf ball. This will help us to feel more comfortable when we finally start to hit balls. If we warm up properly, we won’t feel the need to hit balls for a long time before we play, which will result in less wasted energy before the round to help us have more stamina at the end of the round to finish strong. A 15–20-minute ball striking session is more than enough. Our goal as a professional staff is to help reduce the threat of injury and to keep you mentally focused throughout the entire round.

There’s something energizing about winter play on the courts. February brings a blend of spirited competition, social connection, and purposeful practice, as Members continue to rally together across tennis and pickleball. At the Equestrian Center, February unfolds at a thoughtful, unhurried pace. One that encourages presence, connection, and appreciation for the bond between horse and rider. Winter riding offers a quieter beauty, inviting Members to slow down, reflect, and experience the grounding nature of time spent in the saddle. It’s a season that highlights why this corner of the Club holds such a special place in the Seabrook community.

In the Chinese Zodiac, the Horse is a symbol of vitality, movement, and freedom; a spirit defined not by stillness, but by forward motion. The Year of the Horse, which begins on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, invites reflection on energy well directed, independence balanced with connection, and the quiet strength found in purposeful momentum.
Across centuries, the Horse has been honored in Chinese culture as a companion in labor, travel, and transformation. It represents perseverance without force, progress without haste, and a deep trust between human and animal built through patience, respect, and mutual understanding. These values are not ornamental; they are lived, learned, and carried forward... much like the rhythms of life at the Seabrook Island Club Equestrian Center.
Here, the Horse is more than a presence - it is a teacher. Each ride asks us to listen before we lead. Each grooming session becomes an exercise in attentiveness. Each shared moment in the barn reminds us that connection is earned, not assumed. In a world that often urges speed, the Horse teaches awareness. In a season that celebrates independence, it quietly reinforces the importance of partnership.
As 2026 unfolds, the Year of the Horse offers a meaningful lens through which to view the Equestrian Center’s role within our Club community. It is a place of steady growth, thoughtful programming, and mindful engagement. The Equestrian Center is a space where Members of all ages can experience confidence, calm, and clarity through time spent with these remarkable animals.
To honor the Year of the Horse is not to claim it, but to appreciate its symbolism: movement guided by intention, strength paired with grace, and progress rooted in respect. These ideals mirror the values that define the Equestrian Center and the broader Seabrook Island Club experience.
This year, may we move forward with purpose. May we listen closely, act thoughtfully, and find freedom not in rushing ahead, but in being fully presentone stride at a time.

February continues the momentum of a year that began with one big old Hollywood style celebration. Following the excitement of our annual Members’ New Year’s Party, this month brings more opportunities to gather, laugh, and create new memories together at the Club.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we asked our staff leaders and Members of the Board of Governors a simple question: What do you love most about Seabrook Island Club? Their answers speak to far more than amenities or traditions. They reflect pride in their work, gratitude for the people around them, and a deep appreciation for the island we are fortunate to call home.
Together, these reflections offer a glimpse into the heart of Seabrook Island Club - seen through the eyes of those who help guide it, care for it, and shape the experience for our Members every day.
”I love how friendly everyone is. I love the events that we put on for our membership. The 4th of July is my favorite event seeing all the families really enjoy themselves. Seabrook is a special place, and I love being part of it.”
Kimberly Howard Reservation Manager & Concierge
”I love the personal connection with our Members. At Seabrook Island Club, events aren’t one-time transactions they’re part of an ongoing relationship. That makes the planning more intentional, the execution more meaningful, and the end result more rewarding.”
Michelle Duplessis Director of Catering
”The team, the staff, and the ocean setting.”
Jared Coetzee Director of Operations
”Culture between staff and culture between staff and the membership.”
Martin McTernan Director of Golf
“Seabrook Island Club offers something to everyone on any given day. The beauty of the island and Club is something that still takes my breath away! We truly appreciate the dedication of our staff and always feel welcomed and a bit special, especially on days when we least expect it.”
Christine Iaconis Member, Board of Governors
”The people! I absolutely love our Members and our team here at Seabrook.”
Lauren Stokes Food & Beverage Supervisor
”The family aspect of it, becoming great friends with the Members over the years. ” Van Mixon Banquet Chef
”I love the people; the ones I have the privilege of working with daily and the Members whose Seabrook journey I have the honor of being a part of.”
Cheryl Hilzley Manager of First Impressions
”I love the freedom that I have to make my job my own. Here at SIC I can see a need and find a solution using my own ideas, creativity, and style! I love that everything I do has a personal touch and that my team, boss, coworkers, and staff can see my work as truly mine! ”
Anna Polasky HR Manager
”The people!”
Joshua Smolik Assistant Director of Operations
”The thing that I love most about Seabrook Island Club is the people and the culture here. It truly is the definition of "it's the people that make the place.” I also am so grateful for all of the opportunities that I have had here in my short time at Seabrook Island Club, as starting out as a Food and Beverage Intern in 2022 and working my way to being on my amazing HR Team. I've always felt supported with my career goals, and I couldn't ask for a better place to work! ”
Lauren O’Laughlen HR Generalist
”Our incredible staff!”
Lynn Lillibridge President, Board of Governors
”I love how the Club is nestled in between one of Mother Nature’s best works of art. Winding roads, old oak trees, marsh grass, and ocean winds. A truly incredible place to work.”
David Beavans Senior Staff Accountant
”Knowing that my work helps create meaningful experiences for others is incredibly fulfilling for me. Being surrounded by such natural beauty makes even the busiest days feel calmer, and it encourages me to take real pride in the environment I work in and the service I provide.”
Matthew Hoisington Director of Beach Club Operations
“Upon our arrival in 2010, the Club quickly formed the basis for my wife and I to make solid connections to a large and diverse group of neighbors and fellow travelers, many of whom became friends. I was fortunate to serve the Club and its Members on the Board of Governors, and have seen at close hand how fortunate we have been to weather good and bad times without losing our sense of community. It seems like a week doesn't go by that I meet a relatively new Member who echoes how welcoming our Club and community are. It's what makes Seabrook Island a special place. May it forever be so. ”
George Conbeer Member, Board of Governors
