JUNE 2024

FPOA President’s Update Normally your correspondent would not lead off with an admonishment about our leash law. In this instance the importance of making sure your dog is on a leash when he or she is outside now has a very good reason; the presence of Cane toads in our community. Other names for these animals are Bufo, Giant or Marine. These toads have secretions on their epidermis which are lethally poisonous to canines. Should your pet bite one he should be taken to a vet immediately. These toads hide in bushes or other ground cover. So, it is wise to make sure your dog stays out of these growths at all times. The professional eradication of these pests would take a lot of time and money and would be unsuccessful. Please keep in mind we abut a large preserve which is mostly swamp and is a perfect habitat for these animals. The kid’s game Whack a Mole comes to mind. When, several months ago, we asked for a permit to restripe our roads, Lee County informed us we would have to remove the four speed-reducing humps we already had on our roads. The reason given was simple; they were illegal. It was also determined there were roads in need of re-paving. Finding a vendor to do the complete work of paving, removal

of the humps and replacing them with legal, speed calming tables and striping took some time. Agreeing on a schedule then took more time. Thankfully the work described has been completed. Along with the tasks described above we had to wait until they were complete to contract for the cleaning of our sidewalks. This job has also been completed. During our last FPOA board meeting the day to day responsibility for the operation of our community during the summer months was transferred by a vote of the Board of Directors to the Executive Committee. This authority is limited to issues which pertain to what makes everything we expect to occur in our community to do so. This authority will expire when next our full board meets on September 30th. The management of The Forest needs to know where you can be reached during the time you are away over the summer months. The form for reporting this information may be located on our website or at the Main Gate office. This information will be kept confidential and will only be used when an emergency requires it. New single family home owners are provided with copies of our rules, bylaws and deed restrictions for the Phase in

which they are living. If you do not have any or all of these documents copies may be obtained at the Main Gate office. Rules for the placement of homes on a lot are contained there. Should a home owner need to modify his home or the surrounding landscaping a description of those modifications must be shown on the Architectural Review Form easily obtained at the aforementioned office. This form, when completed, needs to be turned in at the same office. The Architectural Review Committee will provide an opinion on whether the modifications proposed conform to our deed restrictions, rules and bylaws. June 1st is the official start of the 2024 hurricane season. Now is the time to make sure all the protective measures you have taken are ready. Shutters, either electrically operated or manually installed need to be inspected to make sure they are operational. Stay well, Chuck Patten, President, Board of Directors, Forest Property Owners Association

Alliance For The Arts Transcendental: David Acevedo – Artist Exhibit June 7 to June 29, Opening Reception: June 7, 5 to 7 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. David Acevedo seeks to create a fantasy landscape where his memories and history can live in peace. The color palette he uses varies from time to time because of the ever-changing mind that dictates it. Never one to follow recipes, Acevedo creates his own mixture of mediums until he feels content. The materials Acevedo uses to create his paintings are usually photographs, magazine cut-outs, acrylic paints, gesso, inks, pencils, dry and oil pastels, oils, enamels, colored markers and pens; applied to cotton rag paper or stretched canvas. A particular painting of his could have all of these mediums or as little as one. His pictorial work is recognizable by the bold colors, textures and compositions. A notable part of his work is the hidden message or symbols in the work, drawing the viewer into each piece and creating intrigue.
