*If you’re on recognised benefits or earn less than £26,800 per year, you could be eligible for a full tuition fee waiver. To apply, you’ll need to complete a selfdeclaration form (online or on paper) before starting your course.
The College may request additional documents to verify eligibility. For students who don’t qualify for a full waiver, a small fee applies. Please note, enrolment is limited to six courses per academic year.

Our one-year Access to Higher Education courses are designed to help you take the next step towards a degree - whether at university or here at East Sussex College.
With excellent success rates and strong recognition from universities across the UK, our Access courses provide a second chance at higher education. It’s never too late to follow your ambitions! If you’re considering a career change and need a degree to reach your dream role, an Access course can help you get there.
Access diplomas are Level 3 qualifications; students will need to have a minimum of GCSE grade 4 in English or equivalent before enrolment. Most university courses will ask for GCSE Maths at grade 4 or above alongside your Access Diploma. If you need these, you can study them with us for free! No previous experience is required to enrol.
Please note that Medical Schools will require a minimum of a grade 6 in English, Maths and Science, so if Access to Medicine is the required route, you will need to consider this before applying.

Eligibility & Fees
These courses are for adults who are aged 19 and over on 31st August 2026. Learners must be resident in England. Course tuition is £175 per course, subsidised through the Adult Skills Fund. Learners in receipt of recognised benefits or who earn less than £26,800 per year, will be eligible for a full tuition fee waiver.
To apply, you’ll need to complete a fee waiver form before starting your course. A small materials fee is payable on enrolment. The College may request additional documents to verify eligibility.

HELP WITH PAYING
Grants & Bursaries - For up-to-date information, please visit: gov.uk and search ‘grants and bursaries’. You may also be eligible for help with childcare and travel costs while you study.
Staged Payments - If your course is over 12 weeks or is an ESOL course, you may be able to pay in instalments. Please contact us for more information. (T&Cs apply)
Reductions for Leisure courses - If you are aged 60 or over at the start of the course, or you are in receipt of an eligible state benefit, you may be eligible for a 10% reduction in course fees. (T&Cs apply)
Fee paid by your employer - Please ensure they have completed a separate Employer payment form and provide a Purchase Order number.
