Students love our sprawling Eastbourne campus, which boasts plenty of green space to relax between lessons in the warmer summer months. Eastbourne was named one of the best seaside towns in England by Condé Nast Traveller, and is where you will find one of our larger campuses, home to several specialist classrooms for our Higher Education provision, including counselling practice rooms and music recording studios. Why choose Eastbourne for your degree course? It’s the perfect location, featuring the stunning scenery of the South Downs and coastline. It’s also dubbed the Sunshine Coast, a name given because it regularly tops the charts as the UK town with the most sunshine hours in any given year. And given that sunshine equates

Eastbourne. Eastbourne is well-known for its abundance of bars and restaurants, offering a diverse selection that ranges from gastropubs and modern bistros to Victorian tearooms and traditional country pubs. Here are some of our favourite spots to try after class: The coffee shops are a firm favourite, with many options here in Eastbourne. The coffee revolution started in Seattle over 40 years ago when the very first Starbucks opened its doors. Today we are spoiled for choice with leading chains and independent coffee houses locally. Starbucks and Costa obviously feature, and we also rate Urban Ground, To The Rise Bakery, Coffee & Carrot and The Art House. Did you know on campus, we serve Costa Coffee at a reduced cost to the high street? The seaside and ice cream go hand in hand and Gelato Famoso is one of many popular choices here in Eastbourne, evidenced by the queues out the door in the summer months. ‘A taste of Italy in Eastbourne’, Gelato Famoso formally known as Fusciardi’s. The family-run business was established in 1967. The only change is to its name.

Fast-food restaurants remain a popular dining choice thanks to its ease and value for money, and Eastbourne celebrated the return of its Burger King and Wimpy restaurants in the centre of town after years away. A new Taco Bell also features, as well as staples including Subway, McDonald’s and KFC. The Cornfield Garage is perfect for a pint, the town’s most popular branch of JD Wetherspoons features a great choice of local brewers and suppliers. The Lamb Inn, thought to be one of the oldest pubs in the country, sits proudly in the Old Town and has done since about 1180. It serves fine Sussex ales and could well be haunted. Bibendum, The Dolphin, The Dewdrop, and The Eagle form a fantastic quartet of pubs in Eastbourne. Locals refer to them as the south street shuffle. Quite a popular route for a night out, starting at Bibendum and working your way along South Street until you reach The Eagle.

Eastbourne attracts nearly five million visitors each year. Here’s why: In mid-August, visitors and residents line the seafront to catch Eastbourne’s biggest and most popular event, Airbourne. The four-day event features the very best in military and civilian aviation display teams and regularly includes the iconic Red Arrows, RAF Typhoon, Chinook, Wingwalkers and the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Airbourne concludes in style with a spectacular firework display which illuminates the seafront! The Eastbourne International Tennis Tournament. Each June, prior to Wimbledon, some of the world’s best tennis players visit the Sunshine Coast for the Eastbourne International. Some of the biggest names in women’s and men’s tennis have graced the Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis courts including Caroline Wozniacki, Angelique Kerber, Stan Wawrinka, Andy Murray, and Eastbourne’s Johanna Konta. Eastbourne Pride. Eastbourne Pride has become a firm favourite on the events calendar. ESC has sponsored the event in previous years, proud to celebrate diversity and inclusion in the town.

Eastbourne. Magnificent Motors. Eastbourne’s greatest motor show takes place over the first May bank holiday weekend. The motoring spectacular features more than 900 vintage and classic cars, motorbikes, buses, and is a weekend packed with live music and entertainment. Eastbourne Theatres. Musical performances, live shows, and standup comedy are also something to celebrate here in Eastbourne. The Congress Theatre reopened after an extensive refurbishment as part of the £54 million Devonshire Park Project. The London Philharmonic Orchestra performed as the venue’s premiere concert. Touring comics such as Harry Hill and Alan Carr grace the stage in Eastbourne, and West End shows often roll into town throughout the year. The Beachy Head Marathon is one of the biggest off-road marathons in the UK and is famous for its gruelling course and beautiful scenery. The run sets off with a route of breathtaking views and challenges - the perfect opportunity to boost your health and general fitness!

In 2023, Hastings was rated as the ‘coolest place to live in Sussex’ by health and wellbeing brand Naturecan. The thriving town is a hotspot for the ever-growing creative industries. Hastings is sometimes referred to as Brighton’s little sister, and shares a lot of the same quirky, artistic qualities as its neighbour. Other comparisons

have been made to the London suburb Shoreditch, with Hastings being dubbed Shoreditch-on-Sea. But to us, Hastings is best known for being itself, and a very attractive place to live, work, study and play.

While TripAdvisor can offer insights into top dining and drinking spots, no one understands Hastings quite like we do. Here, we share some of our personal favourites: The Crown is a very popular independent pub in the heart of the town and highly recommended for its range of craft beers.

The Dragon Bar is the sister bar to the original Dragon Bar in Shoreditch and is where you can enjoy cocktails and music from the resident DJ who plays tracks straight from vinyl on his mini decks. The Boulevard Bookshop is a bookshop come Thai cafe night, offering a fine range of homecooked Thai dishes, available for dining in or takeaway. Ye Olde Pump House is in the heart of the old town and has a stunning interior full of character and is a great place to enjoy real ales. The seaside is synonymous with fish ‘n chips, and for some of the best in town we love The Cod Father, The Old Town Fryer and The Kingfisher (and not only for their great names!). Film buffs can take advantage of great cinemas in the town, including the mainstream Odeon, independent picture house Electric Palace and cinema come art gallery Kino-Teatr. To the east, you’ll find a glorious stretch of beach, with Europe’s largest beachlaunched fishing fleet, iconic black fishing huts, with views of the East Hill in the background. This is also

where you’ll find Hastings Contemporary, a stunning gallery for art aficionados. ESC is home to many art based degree courses. It’s a great town to live in for aspiring artists, offering private viewings and art shows on a regular basis. Heading west, you’ll find the famous Hastings Pier, which is a popular hive of activity with open-air yoga, cinema screenings, a variety of eateries, live music and an iconic photobooth! Day festivals and silent discos take place on a regular basis - perfect over the summer months. Hastings Pier also boasts beautiful views for you to enjoy! Throughout the year, it’s hard not to get carried away with all the parties and festivals going on in the town. The Seafood & Wine Festival, Hastings Traditional Jack in the Green a fantastic fourday celebration held over the Hastings Pirate Weekend (a famous and quirky event where thousands gather to dress up as pirates!), and its very own version of Mardi Gras - Fat Tuesday are some of the best!

The town centre is just a short walk from campus, as are the Railway Lands and picturesque Grange Gardens. Wave Leisure Centre is on the campus doorstep and has a swimming pool and gym facilities.

Why choose Lewes for your degree course? Iconic features on the Lewes landscape include the River Ouse, which runs directly through the town, and Lewes Castle, renowned for being one of the first castles in England following the Norman Conquest and battle of Hastings in 1066.

As you venture into the town centre you are welcomed by narrow alleyways, buildings of historical and architectural character, and a plethora of shops, cafes, and restaurants. From mainstream brands to independent names, Lewes is a truly artisan town with traditional charm.

The history of Lewes is hugely appealing, and you don’t have to be studying History or Classical Civilisation to appreciate it. Barbican House is a 16th century Grade II listed building next to Lewes Castle. It operates as a museum and features local collections from the Stone Age to medieval times. Barbican House is also home to the Museum of Sussex Archaeology.

Did you know? Anne of Cleves, the fourth wife of King Henry VIII, resided in Lewes. The 16th Century home on Southover Street was given to the Queen following her divorce from the King. (Yes, she was one of the surviving wives!) Harvey’s Brewery moved into the town in 1790 and has been a staple in the town ever since. Just as John Harvey did, his descendants use a blend of four local hops, water filtered through the South Downs for over 30 years, and a unique 60-year-old yeast strain, to create Harvey’s beers. On some days the Harvey’s Brewery horse drawn cart still frequents the cobbled roads of the town! History tells us that Lewes has always been proudly independent and liked to do things a little differently. If this sounds like you, then Lewes is the place to come for your degree!

Lewes. Lewes boasts a wide-range of fantastic places to eat and drink! From light bites between classes, or somewhere to go after a day of studying, there is something for everyone. Did you know? Lewes is home to the very first Bill’s Restaurant! Bill Collison, a former Lewes Priory student opened Bill’s as a greengrocer in 2001 and today the popular chain boasts 78 branches! Dine at the Lewes Bill’s to see where it all began! If you’re a fan of Thai then you’ll love Erawan. It’s an intimate Thai diner that serves up authentic, spicy dishes that are great value. It’s just a couple of minutes from campus, it’s Bring Your Own, and the Penang curry is delicious. Caccia & Tails is an amazing pasta and focaccia bar offering homemade pasta, sauces, and breads. Eat in or take away, and choose from a mouth-watering menu of pasta and breads. Looking for something new to try? The mac’n’cheese fries with Marmite mayo are a must.

Head to The Swan Inn for a traditional homemade roast dinner with all the trimmings (vegetarian option also available). This intimate pub also features a vinyl-only music policy, which we love! The Lewes Arms is an architectural gem steeped in character and tradition. Locals say that this is the best pub in Lewes, and we find it hard to disagree. This historic pub, which is over 200-years-old, serves up delicious food, well kept ales, and great live music entertainment. John Harvey Tavern is a popular rustic pub in the heart of the town opposite Harvey’s Brewery. We love the Sussex pies and ales direct from Harvey’s Brewery (of course!). No visit to Lewes is complete without a tour of the famous Harvey’s Brewery (just not on a school night!) “We wunt be druv” a Sussex dialect phrase that means “we will not be driven” and has been used in the county for hundreds of years and denotes the independence, spirit, and pride of the brewers.

Explore the dynamic brewery scene with Abyss and Beak Brewery, featuring innovative brews, street food and various other pop up events. Don’t miss the ‘These Hills’ summer festival on the South Downs, hosted by Beak Brewery for a memorable celebration of community, culture, and flavourful experiences. The Depot is a firm favourite thanks to its stunning gardens and proximity to the station, it’s a bit of an all-rounder. Great for food, music events, a fantastic selection of beers, wines, and spirits, a brilliant place to meet with friends, and it’s a cinema! Of course, Lewes is most famous for its Bonfire Night celebrations. Come the 5th of November, the town marks the foiled gunpowder plot of 1605 with a much-loved annual bonfire procession that really has to be experienced at least once. There are lots of events happening throughout the year that you can experience. Including a three-day jazz festival, Love Supreme Festival, held during the first weekend in July. Set in the stunning surroundings of Glynde Place, the festival has been running since 2013.

At the opposite end of the celebrations spectrum is the Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Glyndebourne house is a 1,200 seater venue and has held the festival since 1934, attracting people from all over the world.

For those who enjoy arts and creativity, BN9 Art Space at the Marine Workshops hosts exhibitions, workshops, and events throughout the year. Caburn House, Lewes. Our on-campus residence is the perfect option if you are aged 18 years old or above and wish to live with other international students. It’s also opposite the main Lewes Community Leisure Centre, which has an indoor swimming pool, sports hall, gym, climbing wall and athletics track. The town centre is a 10-minute walk away, where there are lots of restaurants, cafés, shops and supermarkets. Lewes train station is just a five-minute walk from the residence.

Students’ Union. When you enrol onto one of our courses you will become part of the Students’ Union at ESC. We pride ourselves on representing your student voice and helping students where we can. There are Course Representatives for each course supported by us, which ensure that your voice is heard by our University and College management. We host events throughout the academic year such as wellbeing events and other activities. There are societies that you can join and get involved with, but if you don’t find the one you’re after, you will be encouraged to start your own one! Lastly, we hope you won’t need it, but if you have any academic issues, we have a dedicated academic progress and wellbeing mentor team who can help by providing advice and support throughout your time at college.

What grades will you need to study with us? Need to update your qualifications? An Access to Higher Education course will help you meet the entry requirements you need to study at university.

and experiences. For courses that require interview or portfolio review, this may also be considered in any conditional offer that follows if your application is successful.

Access to Higher Education courses are designed specifically to prepare learners aged 19 or above for university entry. Your qualifications may fall below the entry requirements or maybe out of date, in which case, these intensive courses will develop your research and study skills, and help you gain the qualifications you need to support your university application. We offer a range of Access to Higher Education courses all of which can lead onto a number of degree courses. See page for 38 for more information. Applying and interview process: Entry requirements should be used as a general guide as we operate a flexible admissions policy. This means that you could receive a lower conditional offer than the typical offer, informed by our assessment of your complementary non-academic achievements

Applications must include a personal statement and appropriate references. Apply at soon as you can. We welcome applications from mature students with no formal qualifications, and from International students with non-UK qualifications. International students will need an equivalent overseas qualification together with an IELTS score of 6, and 6 in writing. If you are a mature student and fall below the entry requirements, evidence of prior learning with an appropriate portfolio of work or relevant industrial experience will be considered. You may be assessed for accredited prior learning (APL) on the basis of other relevant academic qualifications or work/ personal related experience.

ABOUT THIS COURSE

EMPLOYMENT & PROGRESSION

This course is a one-year BA (Hons) Top-up year for applicants who have successfully completed a previous two-year HND or foundation degree in a related area.

Students will become critical practitioners within the field of design, equipped with the technical, design and creative skills, knowledge and attributes required to operate effectively as professionals within the full range of creative industries. Graduates enter employment in a wide range of contexts including Art Director and Studio manager and become life-long learners with an appreciation of the value to society of a design education

The course is divided into four units - Design Enterprise, Critical and Cultural Studies, Professional Practice and a self-initiated project. Students are encouraged to produce outcomes across a range of creative disciplines to develop critical approaches in design; as a tool for socio-economic change; innovation and application; and to professional practice. Our degree in Business Management is studied over three-years and has a strong work-related emphasis.

During the first year, you will to fine-tune your innovative approaches to business management operational systems giving you a broad understanding of the business world. ABOUT THIS COURSE This BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) accredited Foundation degree in Person-Centred Counselling enables students to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to work as effective person-centred counsellors. Once completed, students can choose to complete a further year to get the full BSc (Hons) in Person-Centred Counselling, or start work in private practice or other counselling settings. The course is based on the person-centred philosophy and therapy of Carl Rogers. All course tutors are qualified and experienced counsellors.

You’ll develop the skills of reflection and reflexivity in relation to their counselling practice. You’ll also analyse the social context of counselling practice including the family, difference and diversity, culture, politics, religion and language within contemporary society. WHAT WILL I STUDY?

Demand for high quality childcare and education services requires highly skilled, well-educated Early Years Practitioners.

With the need to complete independent research, career aspirations, and inspect services and mentor trainees, the role and demands of an Early Years practitioner are constantly increasing. That is why higher level study in this field is becoming more and more essential.

Our two-year FdA Early Years programme is designed to prepare you for a formal leadership role within an early years setting or a role that focuses on training, mentoring or supporting staff in the workplace. The course will offer you an opportunity to review the various disciplines that contribute to our understanding of early childhood and aims to support practitioners working in a variety of settings. You will be expected to recognise the role of play and its importance in the curriculum. You will carry out observations and, through the analysis of the observations, be in a position to contribute to curriculum and environment planning which reflects the age and stage of development of every child.

EMPLOYMENT & PROGRESSION

You will study a range of modules designed to allow you to explore what it is to manage staff and projects, to make changes with confidence, explore the international child care sector and to carry out relevant and work-related research.

Once you have graduated you will have a full honours degree and be ready to progress into management positions in nurseries, hospices and reception classes.

You’ll embark on an enriching journey with our Early Years Care and Education top-up programme, featuring modules focused on Leading Practice in the Early Years setting, Curriculum and Assessment Leadership, and a Research Project exploring Early Years perspectives. Gain insights into international practices, enhancing your proficiency and understanding in the field of early childhood education.

The positions include operational management in nurseries and hospice settings with responsibility for quality improvement, planning and implementing change and reviewing the outcomes and classroom support in the school as a SEND worker. Progression onto Early Years Teacher Status courses or Masters courses are also possible. ABOUT THIS COURSE

As well as gaining a ProfGCE, there is an opportunity to apply for Qualified Teaching and Learning Skill status (QTLS) once you have successfully completed the course and in employment.

Teaching is an engaging and rewarding career. This course will give you the skills you need to enter into the Lifelong Learning Sector teaching learners aged 14+. This course is split into two distinct pathways, one is full-time, the other is part-time. The course you choose will be dependent upon your qualifications and experience; both will provide you with qualifications to teach students aged 14+ (ideally 16+) in either a school, adult learning or FE setting. Your learning on the course, will be split into two parts: practical teaching activities and classroom observations, and theory and academic study. You will learn how to effectively plan lessons, practice your teaching techniques and develop your personal teaching style in your subject specific area. Full time ProfGCE The full-time ProfGCE is a pre-service course running for one academic year. It is specifically for graduates who have very little or no teaching experience. The entry requirements for the full time ProfGCE are a minimum 2:2 honours degree and GCSE C/4 in both English and maths or an equivalent L2 qualification in these subjects.

The course is suitable for both graduates (ProfGCE), or professionals in industry who may not have a first degree (CertEd). ENTRY REQUIREMENTS The entry requirements for the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (ProfGCE) are an honours degree and minimum GCSE grades C/4 in both English and maths or an equivalent L2 qualification in these subjects. The entry requirements for the Certificate of Education (CertEd) are a Level 3 qualification in your subject specific area and minimum GCSE grades C/4 in both English and maths or an equivalent L2 qualification in these subjects. The Award in Education and Training is a qualification suitable for anyone wanting to teach in a wide range of settings including the further education and skills sector, workplace learning, offender learning and adult community contexts.

WHAT WILL I STUDY? This course is a mix of practical activities and theory. Through the vehicle of a micro teach to the peer group, you can consider the practical skills necessary for delivering an effective session.

This is a part-time course delivered in 3-hour weekly blocks for 14 weeks.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Activities and study will help link theory and practice and help you consider or refine the practical skills necessary for developing an effective teaching or training session. There is an expectation for the theory in Level 3 that you will complete independently with regular assignments.

Applicants must be aged 19 or over, have a completed application form and educational questions, and normally have a subject specialist qualification at Level 3 or above. Applicants are required to have a basic knowledge of using ILT, and evidence of literacy and numeracy skills at Level 2 - or be working towards this.

The course is designed for those who want to find out what teaching and learning in Further Education is all about and for those who want to get a feel of whether or not it is suitable for them. It is also for those who have teaching and want to get some formal validity/

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

This is a vocational qualification which builds on beauty therapy skills to allow you to develop an enhanced repertoire of advanced specialist beauty therapy techniques to prepare you for employment as an advanced senior beauty therapist.

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

This qualification is the only Level 4 qualification offered by VTCT in Micropigmentation. The VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Micropigmentation is about using micropigmentation, a form of cosmetic tattooing to create make-up effects to enhance facial features.

Units include: Management of health, safety and security in the salon/ Quality management of client care in the hair and beauty sector/ Enhance appearance using micropigmentation
