• Decorated Boxer, Motivational Speaker Commencement Address
Cam Awesome is a nationally recognized motivational speaker, the former captain of Team USA Boxing, and the most decorated boxer in USA Boxing history. As a six-time U.S. national champion, four-time Golden Gloves champion, and three-time Olympic Trials competitor, he has captivated the nation not only with his athletic achievements but also with his inspiring message of resilience, perseverance, and positivity.
As a young man, Awesome overcame bullying, anxiety, and academic challenges before discovering boxing, which he describes as a transformative outlet that sparked his confidence and self-discipline. Remarkably,
within just two years, he rose to become the nation’s top super heavyweight boxer. His extraordinary journey, defined as much by resilience in the face of setbacks as by triumph, was featured in the acclaimed Netflix documentary CounterPunch
Today, Awesome inspires audiences nationwide, sharing the principles of a “championship mindset.” Drawing lessons from his experiences in the boxing ring, he encourages others to overcome adversity and pursue their ambitions with determination and gratitude. His story has been highlighted by ESPN, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, Yahoo Sports, Team USA, and many other national media outlets.

• Mayor, City of New Haven
Recipient of Honorary Doctor of Political Science
JustinElicker is the 51st elected mayor of New Haven and is committed to building a city where every resident can thrive.
First sworn into office in January 2020, Mayor Elicker has led the city for six years and was most recently re-elected to a fourth two-year term in 2025, receiving more than 84 percent of the vote in the general election.
Weeks into his first term, Elicker led New Haven through the COVID-19 pandemic and has worked in partnership with the New Haven Board of Alders and New Haven residents to confront many of the city’s long-term, systemic challenges, with a particular focus on advancing inclusive economic growth; stabilizing the city’s finances and long-term financial health; tackling gun violence and reimagining our approach to public safety; building more affordable housing; and supporting our children, youth, and families with stronger schools and new programs.
Elicker is a lifelong public servant. Prior to being elected mayor, he served on the New Haven Board of Alders, as executive director of the New Haven Land Trust, in the U.S. Foreign Service, as a service member for elementary and high school students, and as an adjunct professor of education policy at Southern Connecticut State University.
A public-school graduate, Elicker went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College in Vermont, as well as a Master of Business Administration from the Yale School of Management and a Master of Environmental Management from the Yale School of the Environment.
Above all, he is the proud husband to his wife Natalie, and they are the proud parents of their two daughters, Molly and April.
